Supposedly his dad was wolfhound and cane corso, and the mom was Sheppard bulldog. He got sick in the car, hopefully we can get him more used to rides.

 

First time we took our Plott rescue on a mountain adventure, there was one stretch of road that was pretty windy and - even the kids didn't notice, despite her being under foot she was that discrete about it - she lost her stomach. She's been on several windy-road mountain adventures since with no issues. Time will tell. Hopefully he gets past it!

 

Doing some investigating early this AM. The tent of pain claims all eventually. Using truck heater to stay warm in tent. Breeze blowing exhaust away, and ass end out of the tent. 28°F here.

Leaking ATF from my shitty half inch to three-eights splice job. Will need correction soon. Down to the low mark on the Hot side of the dipstick.



Need a new fender, and a bumper. Should be golden.

I'm also adding some other goodies courtesy of @daveeasa. More details will have to come later, but while I'm here and have the electrician kit out I've got some mending to do.

Tried out the green and white LEDs. I didn't like the green. Didn't really match the green of the instrument cluster and the two green LEDs (194 and 74s didn't match each other either, so back to white.

Installed traveller spot beams with ahm-bahh side shooters tied into the turn signals using a harness provided by @daveeasa. Many thanks. You saved me a lot of time, and energy. Kept me from mangling something too...

Crimped poorly with Leatherman as my crimp tool has gone missing... soldered and "crimped" muyi connectors that @FrenchToasty recommended from his 4runner??? ( RAV4?????? Slippin...)

Gave the Silver Bullet some kick today. Sounds SOOO much better. The factory JBL's were dead long ago. New head until and backup camera are next on the list. To be continued....

 

Did these fit without doing anything to them? Modifying in any way? 6.5” I’m assuming

 

Yep, 6.5's all around. The rear factory mounts need 2 lugs trimmed off. They bolted right up, nice and clean. The front took a little bit of redneck engineering. I used the old speakers to make my own adapters. I cut the factory speaker at each support strut and bent them flat. I then used self taping screws to mount the Kickers to the modified rings, at each flattened tab.

 

Adjusted new spot type ditch lights to compliment high beams and low beams, but to stay in the ditches.

Like I'm driving a wall of light now!

Not hard, just would have been easier with a big set of C clamps maybe....and not losing every screw, etc on the ground amongst leaves...would have taken like 5 mins instead of 45...but now they close so I'm happy

 

Started smelling burnt ATF in the last Nike before home in the v6. Got out and checked level.

Purt near out. I thought "ok, I've got some hoses I can swap in." Checked usual and unusual spots. Not enough.

Running back out to town for some "tree ates" in the virus. Takes 15 to get there and store closes in 30 lol

 

Managed to slip in, and grab 8 feet of ⅜ knowing I only needed about 6 feet. I was the last customer of the day. Heading home to sip on coffee, and brave the cold again.

Virus saves the day again.

 

Worked on the rear bumper most of the day. Here’s a before and after of part of the “body work”

Completed hose swap, and as a bonus think I finally found my passenger side squeak. Pass side splash guard rubbing on the mount for my grille guard. Removed

I’m not sure if this will help anyone else, but I cross-posted from my progress thread in case someone else might be wondering the same.

Two weeks ago, I pulled all my coils to check my spark plug torque as these motors are notorious for loosening plugs. Plugs were fine, but I noticed slight cracks or maybe plastic seams along the coils. I numbered them and ranked them by condition. I decided I would replace three of them (see pics below). I ordered new OEM denso coils and replaced the worst one (8) and drove for a week. There was absolutely zero difference. At that point, the coil I opened was not returnable so I’ll keep that one new coil installed and keep the old one as a spare. I returned the other two new coils. So if you are like I was, on the fence as to whether or not you should replace coils with hairline cracks or plastic weld seams that have slightly separated, I would say don’t do it unless you have symptoms. I had zero symptoms, but figured there might be room for improvement. In my case, nope.

 

Also, last week I installed Seat Jackers front seat spacer from Desert Does It. HUGE improvement in comfort for my lower back and legs. There's no way to accurately describe how nice these are. You just have to try them. The only downside is my knees are fairly close to the bottom of the steering wheel when I have it adjusted to my liking. Still, highly recommended if you're on the taller side (i'm 6'1").

 

Ooh. This would actually help some folks with being able to stuff larger amplifiers safely under the seats.

These are safe in event of collision?
And one set works for driver & pass?
Any probs installing w/power seats?

 

I don't have any idea how safe they'd be in a crash, but they use similar hardware and the vectors of forces are only slightly changed. It's a risk I'm willing to take, and thats coming from a guy who worked the road as a paramedic for years. Each set is good for one seat, so you'll need two sets for both seats. Front and rear risers are also sold separately, but I went with front driver's side only, to improve ergos. I have manual seats in my current 05 DC, but the website doest mention anything about power seats being different so they should be fine. I'm almost positive the seat mounts are identical in manual and power seats, as I've had both in the FGT.

 

Nice job. Wish this was easy to do with powered seats, I need the front of my seat to be higher.

I’ve discussed the front seat spacer topic with tonered on TW and he has some concerns with them for crashes. He is a mechanical engineer and I am not so I don’t feel qualified to attempt to summarize. I think the primary concern was shear force to the bolt in a rear impact. In a regular cab this might not be a significant concern as the back wall provides some safety margin. In an access cab with rear passengers it might be.

probably needs some crash testing to know the actual risk.

I’m not tall enough to need any myself.
