I have a triple now and really enjoy this motor, but it's of the Yamaha variety. Have always wanted a Speed Triple R.... Anyway, you would probably like the triple a lot.

Still think the T7 would be a better fit for you even though the 500X is a great bike. It can do it all and I just think the T7 will offer more growth as you get comfortable. An you are definitely not being a wuss. This decision is not to be taken lightly and it's a hard decision. If you have time it would be best to wait for demo days so you can ride several different bikes. Makes the decision a little easier.

With my goal being lazy riding, commuting, and slow weekend trips on straight roads I am not sure I need the T7. Want is a whole different matter. As for time, that I have. The 2022 Honda hasn't hit The States yet, and if I can get my leg over both I will. I'm in no rush to spend thousands and regret it. I've done enough of that in the last few years to have learned my lesson. I'll be shopping for riding gear though the winter in hopes of getting good prices, and it's stuff that can serve double duty for my SxS, but the bike isn't happening fast. At the very earliest it'd be whenever Honda decides to make the 500X available.

Thanks! This was a pretty good overall refresh since it sat for a bit before I bought it. But so far I have done the following:

    Oil/filter change
    Air filter change
Flushed the brake fluid and refilled
New brake pads in the rear (fronts still good)
New tires (old were dry rotted and slick)
Checked the coolant and it strained clean so I'm holding off on that for now seems relatively fresh

When it's time to store it for the Winter I'll top the gas off and throw some stabilizer in it and toss it on a battery tender.

Watch this before selecting your fuel stabilizer. I was surprised.

I've always used Stabil so that's good to know it was one of the better ones. I find it hard to believe a stabilizer alone killed his bike lol. Been doing it for years and never had an issue.

I don't think his bike really died. Theatrics for illustration purposes. I watched tons of his videos way before I was ever thinking of getting a bike just because the production quality and entertainment value is top notch.

If I were willing to buy used, I would consider it for sure. I have the absolute worst luck buying used stuff, and the VStrom base is almost $9K. That puts it into the T7 price range. It's a bit more than I am willing to spend. I'm down in the CB500X, KLR650, and MAYBE the Versys 650 price ranges. I've all but decided on the Honda because of the low cost, large aftermarket, ease of maintenance, and reliability that leads to a healthy resale value. This way if I run it, love motorcycling and want more, I can move on in a couple years with minimal loss.

Plus, I'm coming at this as a newbie rider. I'm setting aside my previous motorcycle experience and starting fresh. Whatever I buy is going to get dropped, dinged up, etc. and the less I spend on it the less I'll cringe inside when that happens. The V-Strom, T700, Africa Twin, and the like may be in my future, but not as my starter bike.

My husband likes the tenere too, I joke that it has the expression that its an extra that just wandered on the set of a movie but it wasnt the right scene.
Ive found a couple leftover Multistrada 950S in the area so im gonna go test ride one and see how I feel about the adv thing. My 848 seat was the same height as these, I tippy toed but you get used to it and just have to plan your stops accordingly. They do offer a 20mm lower seat on the multi as well. They had the same 20mm lower seat that I tried on the tall assed hypermotard 1100S and it worked enough to where I could to the ol’ one cheek sneak and get a toe on the ground when I stopped.(It was our demo bike and I put probably 300 miles on that damned thing, fun af)

Appreciate it, but not even remotely interested in Buell (rode a blast and lightning, years ago but still meh and will always associate with HD regardless of who buys em. PTSD from the shop, all we worked on) Loyal to the Ducs.

This graphic helped me visualize where a bunch of the bikes I was eyeing stacked up. It's part of why I bumped the KLR650 and the Versys 650 out of the running. I don't want a dirt bike that "can" go on road, and I need to be able to handle dirt. I've already had a road bike, and it sucks on my road.

    upload_2021-11-6_7-48-8.jpg

Here's the video where they presented this graph. They are specifically talking about beginner midsize (by weight) adventure bikes.

Currently running the Yamaha Hyper Naked, FZ10 (MT10). Over the years, have had most of the sport bikes. Grew up on dirt bikes, and thinking of getting into adventure riding. We’ll see. 10D95452-428C-4480-B877-B9939AE701B5.jpg 6663DF10-2212-4F2E-B00D-C939D6D4968F.jpg

You know that Harley just came out with a new bike called the Pam Am. In fact many BMW folks and KTM folks that I know have made the move to it.

It maybe out of your price range. But I think other than it being a great bike. I think a lot of the cross over from folks on other bikes is the fact that the MoCo has a large dealer network for those that are touring.

Although it's a tall saddle, it does have a option that drops the seat down a couple inches coming to a stop. Then raises it once you get going.

They has a Pam Am and a Pam Am Special.

Oof. They're sure proud of that thing. 20 grand is too much for me, but the seat height is pretty low. 31.8 inches wouldn't be too bad. Weight on the other hand.... 534 lbs. "in running order" isn't exactly clear. A bike will run with a half gallon of fuel, and this tank is 5.6 gallons. If they are being cute with numbers you add in at least 5 gallons of gas at 6.3 lbs. each and you're looking at a 560-570 lbs. bike. With a 1250cc that's pretty much par, and part of why I'm looking at stuff with a max of 700cc engines. These big ones are badass fast monsters, and I'm just too new for that.

@FlyingWolfe You could skip the Buell's passive association with HD and just go full blown HD biker with this one! :poking:
