BAMuffler or TRD? Still cant decide!

OK then.

Did the “other” mufflers lose power compared to stock or your mufflers?

Also if the stock or close to stock pipe diameters were used, would drive ability be adversely impacted with the “other” mufflers.

I’m an exhaust nerd who can’t weld. Just picking that big thermodynamics brain of yours.

 

He’s not kidding. If I called him right now he could tell me how many times the thread goes around the shaft of one of the flange bolts.

and probably what day of the week the bolt was made as well.

As far as any adverse AFFECTS, I only have experience with the Corsa Catback system I had on my 2010 5.7 Tundra. I couldn't just buy the system I needed from Corsa, so I had to end up buying their Touring Muffler to use on their Sport system( the only one available for my Tundra) I really liked the workmanship and sound from the Corsa exhaust but noticed it took a little more pressure on the gas pedal to get moving up the same hills I drove every day. Came home one day and performed my own "scientific study" My garage has an 18' door on each end that allows me to drive through. I have a ramp on the back end that's a little steep. With my stock exhaust, I was able to creep up that ramp at idle every time, cold engine,warm engine,didn't matter. With the Corsa, I'd need to apply throttle...every time. After getting Keith's system, my grunt returned. Keith will explain why this happens better than I ever could but the 3" pipe the 'off the shelf' systems use is certainly a contributing factor.

The main difference is in the tailpipe diameter. Stock an 2 3/4”. Others are typically 3” or duals. Anytime you use stock exhaust manifolds and don’t use the stock tailpipe, you lose low end torque. This affects more than just acceleration too. It also affects how well your trick maintains speed on the highway. But every circumstance when you’re on the throttle, 3” requires you to be on the throttle more

 

Hypothetically, if you replaced the stock muffler with “take your pick” off the shelf muffler and retained stock tailpipe and stock pipe going in, would that be better than a 3 inch kit or duals from a drive ability standpoint.

I understand drone control goes out the window and it may not look pretty trying to adapt to the oddball pipe sizes.

 

BA for the win. I love my 8" system and no resonator.

 

There’s things that we do that are proprietary to accomplish what we accomplish. It wouldn’t sound right and drone control wouldn’t be the same. Also, as you mentioned, adapting to stock tubing is typically ugly.

our system is also generally a little odd looking. Staggered mufflers, not just a muffler. The tubing size. The y pipe. ‘Other things’, that didn’t just get made that way kne day because we Felt like it. Our entire system has evolved to be what it is today.

What is the best system for a stock 2020 4Runner with the 4.0 V6? Trying to get Christmas ideas for the wife and I know Veterans Day or BF sales may evolve

 

Appreciate your candor. I’m a repeat customer and a fan of your exhausts. Definitely not trying to re-invent the wheel. Me and my family are in quarantine with you know what and I’m bored out of my mind.

One more question, what is the longest (i.e. quietest muffler) you can squeeze in a standard system and could it be part of this group buy. I must be getting old - I loved the 12 inch but even that has more throat than I would want know.

For most SUV’s I recommend mire on the conservative side. We make a direct bolt on for that vehicle and on Veterans Day, for veterans, we are doing 40% off. The flyer is being created as we speak

Hey Ed, sorry, I just regained consciousness and saw your post. The 14" system difference was immediately apparent at first start up. The way our trucks rev at cold start (thanks EPA) The system would have a raspy 'bark' when first fired up. Pulling the hills while towing was also getting intrusive. The exhaust wasn't changing,I was, as my hearing got progressively worse, conversations were getting tougher. The 14" system toned down everything the system does. It sounds more subdued while cruising but at heavier throttle, it certainly won't be mistaken for stock. I'm as happy as a dog in dirt with it and dealing with Keith and Shawna is always a pleasure.

How would you describe the sound difference between 20 and 12 inch canisters?

 

20 is way quieter and deeper. Neither systems have any drone.

I'm one of those "SOME"...

I ditched a magnaflow I had installed on my then new 2014 that had the drone from hell.
This was before I joined this forum and found @dirtydeeds




Bought a custom 7 from Keith, sounds just like an 8 for the most part.
Luckily I kept the stock muffler and pipe.
Had the shop that installed (and removed) the magnaflow weld the stock tailpipe back into place.
They did a shitty job, it bugged my low level OCD, and I ended up buying a new tail pipe..




So that explains why at times I post I installed the rez twice..

Wish I would have found Keith in the first place...

 

To my ear (since we all hear sound different), the 12 had some growl/throatiness in the low range before leveling off.

Would the 20” still have some growl or would it be a smoother deep tone?
