Strange occurrence on my 02 TRD. I recently had a problem with the ABS kicking on when below 10 mph and braking and turning. I may have solved the issue after finding that the right side speed sensor was not seated correctly. I replaced the UCAs, UBJs, LBJs, LCAs and upgraded the brakes to 13WL within the last 2-3 months. Now, when I brake when turning right, I get a grinding noise--like something is stuck between the pads and rotors--but, there is not. I've removed the pads (and rear drums) to check and checked the dust shields for rubbing. Everything seems to check out. I also bled the brakes (RR, LR, LSPV, RF, LF).

For additional info, I have a 2" leveling kit, 265/70/18 wheels with 1.5" spacers. There is no rubbing that I can identify, but something is grinding when I brake when turning right--not left (*head scratcher*). Any ideas before I take it to a pro mechanic?

So if your turning right and let off the brake the grinding stops?

Yes. Grinding sound only occurs when I apply the brakes. There's no grinding when I am turning left or right without braking.

I assume the grinding is only from one side and not both? Which side?

Sounds like it's coming from the right side, but I'm not entirely sure. Today I'm going to put a GoPro on it and see if I can capture the issue.

Might have a rock lodged in there that you missed?? Find an open area and put it in reverse a few times and apply brakes. That’s what I have, my other was the shield but you said that checked out also. Double check the brakes?? Good luck.

Here's a short video clip of the noise. I can't tell where it's coming from based on the clip. Maybe some of you have heard this noise before...?

Could it be the tire hitting the mudflap? Sounds like tire rubbing something to me

No mudflaps--well, the bottom part of the front flaps are removed. I just disassembled both fronts including the calipers, pads, and rotors. No evidence of rubbing, grinding, etc. Nothing stuck. Dust shields have good clearance.
