Fogged Licence plates

I notice some peole fog out their Licence plates when postion. Others don't. Is there a reason to fog?

but on my jeep i never washed the license plate in hopes it made it harder to scan.

 

He means people blurring their plates when posting pics of their trucks on the forum.

 

It's about privacy. Some people like to preserve what little privacy/anonymity remains in the internet age.

 

Ive never been able to search for info through a license plate number. I really wish plate numbers were a number you could dial, call some jackwagon through his onstar and tell him what i think about his driving.

But when i take pics i try not to get pics of plates. Censoring a photo takes too much effort.

Depends on your state, I guess. Wyoming has the county numbers on the plates, so you can get a pretty solid idea of where somebody is at in the country based on that. If your vehicle is modified or has standout graphics on it, then it could lead to some weirdo on the internet being able to find you. Now, just what kind of weirdo you get is the question. Do you get the clingy stalker type, the tree hugger that wants to dump a liter of soda in your fuel tank, or a scumbag that wants to steal from you? None appeal to me.

Type your plate number in google. If you have ever posted a picture with your truck plate exposed it’ll come up. Big brother is always watching.

There's a post on here by someone with what seems to be some common sense law enforcement approach to things. He/she went into a nice paragraph on how you're giving an internet idiot just another piece of you. The gist: The hack then goes back into your past posts, you mention bad weather, your kid's school name, what town you're in, a picture of your house. It is just another piece of the puzzle for a slimeball to cause you grief. You can rest assured there are many confused and nasty people walking around us every day let alone the internet. My neighbour a police officer once told me if you just knew what the person had done standing beside you in the Home Depot line, you'd shop online for the rest of your life. I'm not saying this is a good way to go through life 'worried', I try to be optimistic, try.

There's no point in blurring out your plate in pics online unless you're rich/an asshole who people may want to exact revenge on/have a really exotic car/etc. No one cares about John Smith from Louisville, KY driving a 2014 Tundra and is part of the PTA at his kid's school.

 

No one thinks it can/will happen to them... until it does.


I don't understand the aversion to a blurred plate. Unless you're trying to stalk me.

 

As I said, it's pointless. If you cause someone enough grief online that they stalk you, figure out where you live, and take the time to do malicious things, maybe it's deserved.

 

Not to mention blurring your license plate is not going to be the piece of the puzzle that makes or breaks some hypothetical lunatic tracking you down. If someone wants to find you bad enough, they will.

 

If you really want to pee your pants a little, pay the $1 for a week trial and search for some info on here. You'll be disgusted at what comes up.

Some weirdos, are so damn weird they don't even realize what they are doing or even what planet they live on. Also some are in it for the thrill, doesn't matter if they dislike you or not, it's about the thrill of the hunt. As said above about the person next to you in public, you simply never know.

 

It's really easy to do on your phone. Edit > ... > Markup > a few squiggles of your finger > Done.

 

I have Windows 10. Is there any software installed that could blur a plate if I chose to do so?

There is Paint, Paint 3D, Photos, snip and sketch, and windows Photo viewer.

 

You can use the pen in snip to just cover it up.

 

I just did my name and then my phone #. It was pretty much wrong on both for everything, including location which seems to be this thread’s biggest worry.

I also don’t use social media or post pictures of my kids online though. I don’t even have a picture of my truck on here.

 

That’s good to hear. The site definitely isn’t perfect but just an example of some of the publicly available info. A lot of my info is on there as well as a few friends I have looked up.

Out of boredom and curiosity, I took that as a bit of a challenge to see what I could find on here since I was in disbelief that someone with 3k messages hadn't posted any pics of their truck. Found your VIN, plate number, as well as the zip code you live in from your wheel for sale thread and the army base that's nearby, assuming that's where you're stationed/work.
