Ramp question

I have these ramps

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0117EETEK/ that I used with a former vehicle. I believe that the Tundra's GVWR is less than the max for these ramps, but I was just wondering how people felt about using these ramps for a Tundra or if there are better ramps I should get.

I use them. I haven’t had an issue after using them 10 times or more. I do use a jack stand as a back up though.

The weight is determined by axle not gross.

 

What does that mean?

 

The ramps list a maximum gross vehicle weight of 12,000. The ramps themselves list 6,000 lbs maximum each. It seems that it should be fine just based on the numbers. I was mainly looking for other people's real world experience with them.

 

I have the harbor freight version and works fine, I also use jack stands with them though.

 

Sorry, they look good, I'm in the market for some too. Try them and see what you think. Most everything I ever owned was too low so ramps were still too low. Ramps are cool if you're underneath but going back and forth to engine compartment is a PITA working off a ladder.

 

No problem. As I already have them, I tried putting the truck up on them. It seems like they should be fine, but it'd always be a good idea to use jack stands under the truck also just in case the ramps failed. I'd probably get the heavier duty ones or get steel ramps if I ever need to get new ones though.

 

I had the same conversation with a friend a week ago the does serious work on his stuff and asked him what he thought. He said they're fine. I'd just throw on the parking break and chock the rear wheels. If you're doing serious surgery, jackstands are always a good idea.

 

It means that you will probably never have all 4 wheels on ramps unless you jack an axle up. Cuz you ain't driving both axles up on ramps at the same time unless you got clearance on the fenders

 

I use same style ramp when working my tundra says it is good up to 12000 lbs. I have also used those up front then jack up the back with jack stands to make level

 

They have to be lighter to pick up than mine.

I have an old set of metal ones that I wish would get stolen or something.

I dont have the heart to toss them out though.

 

I've used these since I bought my new 2018. Four oil/filter changes so far. I really like them, very good product. Being reinforced plastic, they are fairly light to haul around and put into position. A couple of points:

1) I hear they can slide if you are in a garage with a polished concrete floor. I have never tried this, I always work on my truck in our level driveway which has a rough surface. No worries here.
2) I'm always a little nervous driving up the ramps, I don't want to blow it and drive over the front end. I'm very careful with one foot on the gas pedal, the other on the brake. I creep up slowly and nce I crest the hump, I let it settle in the depressed area. The I set the parking brake to secure it.

Since I use these to only do oil/filter changes, access to the under hood area for oil fill is not compromised, easy to do. After the change, I fire it up on the ramps to assure no leakage (or other problems). Then I re-install the front skid plate and back down the ramps.

I highly recommend them.

Here is the label on mine, they are rated for 3000lbs each, I have used them on my Dodge 3500 with a Cummins, they should be fine with a tundra. Basically for marketing reasons the 12k sounds better but it assumes that 12k is equally distributed on each wheel.

 

I use mine for oil changes and have even jacked up my rear end and put on jack stands. So half and half. No problems.

 

I have used them for years.
I put the truck in 4wd and crawl up no prob. They are great. Think of your tires that have a load rating of about 2800-3200lbs so these are about the same as the tire on your truck now!

Diy project with son. Gives us 8" additional clearance.

Will use them this week to apply Corrosion Free to the undercarriage.

Agree, I use mine with my camper in the bed. No issue at all

 

I've got 2 sets (a 12000 gvw and 16000 gvw) and use them on my other cars. Used a pair just a while ago to change the front diff gear oil on my FJ. I had a hard time easing the front tires up them, and when I went to stop, they slid just a little. I since learned that a possible trick is to go in 4lo and really crawl slowly up them. I haven't put my tundra up on them yet but if I do I will go in 4lo. I also put a jack stand under the frame on the side I'm going to be on. They felt safe every time I was under them.

 

For $10 more get the 16,000. Not really one of those things that when it fails good things happen. Have had a pair for many years now and as mentioned before only complaint is the way they slide on the garage floor. Literally have to put a 2x6 between them and the wall when using or they shoot out every time.

 

Just one note of caution, never try to run up a vehicle onto these ramps with finished concrete surface flooring.
Why? because they will slip forward while running up the ramps and cause some serious crap.

 

I always engage 4wd and don’t have issues. If I attempt to use my ramps in 2wd they slip every time.

Have them, love them. I use 4WD low so I can creep up on them, not that I’m creepy, well you know what I mean. However I do not use jack stands as a back up. I hope they don’t creep up on me someday.

 

I use 3m adhesive tape on the rubber tab on bottom of ramp. It works fine and no slipping

 

Have my eye on these ramps possibly sometime in the future. https://www.best-metal-products.com...-car-auto-vehicle-truck-tractor-service-ramps Been using plastic ones similar to the ones the OP posted for now though.

 

Planning on getting my truck up on four ramps to do front and rear diff and transfer case in the next couple of months.
