There are three maybe four major upgrades I would like to do to my truck. The only thing stopping me is money, I would like to do it all but for my money I'd like to make these changes in order of efficiency. In other words I know an aftermarket exhaust would possibly reap more benefits than a lift kit would but the exhaust system may be financially out of reach for me at this time.
I also have this little voice in the back of my head saying...hey, you've got a 2WD truck why get a lift at all?
My answer to that is... I'm not sure I want a full lift exactly, the most I would ever go is a 3/1 but really I just want the Tundra to sit level. I would like wider tires than the 285 55/20's im running now but again why go wider? I love the look of my truck and making it level would make me love it more.
A performance exhaust sounds awesome but is it an efficient use of finances? Same with an aftermarket CAI?
My tires are probably going to need a swap in a year or two... I love the look of MT tires but I never go in the mud on purpose, AT tires suit me fine but a good highway tire would prob make more sense, I'm really not a fan of highway tires though.
To sum up... I'm looking into exhaust systems, leveling kit or 3/1 lift, cold air intake, a great set of AT tires for my Mammoth 20x9 wheels (currently running 285 55/20 BFG A/T KO) would love to go 295 or 305 but not sure about fitment without the rubbing.
Of course there's always something im interested in but I think to myself at times that certain off road equipment just doesn't belong on a 2WD vehicle no matter how cool it looks.

What are your thoughts, opinions? I'd like to know if anyone feels the way I do or should I just do what makes me happy (within set financial parameters of course).

There are many, many trucks that are 2WD that are lifted. Why does it need to be 4WD to be lifted? It looks great, you can still get around large puddles of water, over curbs when needed, etc.

Stock intake is CAI. That would be the last item obelisk update.

Tires: go with AT. My Nitto Terra G2's aren't noisy at all!

    Exhaust: there are so many
To choose from, from the 200-1500k installed plus range. Check out the sub-forum we have on exhaust and call some of your local shops for pricing options.

Idk if this is an option for you, but if you're hung up on it being 2WD, can you trade it for 4WD at some point?

You are asking Tundra enthusiasts to help you spend money? You are asking for trouble, haha.

I would concentrate on the lift and tires first. I love my TRD exhaust and intake, but I got them for the sound. Any gain is not significant.

Look into spindles to lift your 4x2. They are relatively inexpensive and introduces almost no stress on your suspension components. Then later on, if you want to go higher, you could always get a set of coil overs.

If you lift around 3 inches, one popular size seems to be 295/60/20. The size of tires you could fit without rubbing depends largely on the offset of your wheels though.

There are some good looking AT tires that will suit your needs Toyo OC AT2, Nitto Terra Grappler, and so on. There are also tires halfway between AT and MT that looks really good, Toyo RT, Nitto Exo Grappler, BFG AT KO2 (I am not sure how I would classify AT KO2 though, but it does look awesome).

Honestly man you can do ALOT with the truck. Some cases you can go more over board on the long travel do to no CV joint angles to worry about.
Glass works on that truck, ARB locker, alittle engine work, :censored: i would have that thing beyond the beast section.

A coworker has a stock 2010 Texas Edition GMC Sierra 2WD with the factory Eaton Detroit auto locker(which is really nice) and he takes his truck in some pretty rough places. A decent front lift on your Tundra w/ARB in the rear would definitely be a sweet ride for a 2WD.

Large puddles and curbs? I'm not sure if you're serious or not. So no noticeable gains whatsoever on the CAI + exhaust system? I had intended on going with the Bilstein 5100 leveling struts on the front for the lift but for the money in not sure if it makes more sense to go with a 3/1 lift. The Nitto Terra Grapplers are a definite tire I'm considering if they make a 295 60/20. I'm not hung up on it being a 2WD, I just got my truck a month ago and I love it. The thing is I love the look of the pre runner front bumpers or the Nfab style off road bumpers but not sure if it's something you do to a non 4WD truck. I definitely don't want the street truck look.
I don't wish I had a 4WD I could have bought one for few grand more but I just don't see the need for it at my current situation, I don't live in the country, I don't go off roading, I'm not in my 20's trying to pick up young girls (no offense if that's your game). I just don't want to go overboard going for a look that doesn't fit the truck. No ARB for me, way to much of an expense for something I'll never use.

Very well put ausei, I have 2wd also, and I will make the best of it. I probably should have bought a 4x4, and the 5.7, really kicking myself in the ass for that decision, but gonna make the best of it. Will buy a new one, when they change there engine plant. Not that anything is wrong with what's current. Tundra is the best truck out there, hands down. Just sayin

I'll start a build page on my 5.7L 2WD PreRunner when I actually do something worthy of it, so far all I've done is the cheapo swap outs like the interior LEDs, back up LEDs and cargo bed LEDs, license plate LEDs, bought some foot well LED strips that should be arriving any day now but it's been raining so much in N. TX I may not get a chance to install those this weekend. I also put in an anti-theft device on my tailgate, probably could have gone with the old hose clamp fix but I liked the way the McGard lock looked. I thought about dropping a hitch ball in to keep people away from the back of my truck in parking lots...hahaha

I have lots of wants, a few needs, I know you guys will help me spend my money wisely. I just need to find a 4 wheel parts shop that's having a going out of business sale.
I'll probably go with the leveling kit or 3/1 lift first, will the Bilstein 5100 leveling give me enough clearance to go with 295 60/20 Toyo RT? I've also heard that if I go with the 5100 at highest setting I'll need to swap out the upper A arms for $600, if that's the case and the expense will be way higher I may go all the way around with a 3/1 but I have no idea who to go with. You guys have any suggestions? Or will I have to change out the A arms no matter what I do?

I found this on a 4 wheel parts Q&A for the bilstein 5100 leveling struts.

The 3/1 lift should have zero issues clearing the tire size you wanted if you choose that route.

Who has the best 3/1 lift out there? I see plenty of aftermarket parts out there and don't even know where to begin, I put my trust in those who have gone before me and therefore I ask for input. I don't want to have the same thing that someone has but if it's a proven product or setup why would you not share the info. I know if I had a bad/good experience with a type of product I would want to share the knowledge. I drive myself crazy doing research.

I had this one from @ToyTec Lifts on my last two trucks (Tundra and Tacoma) only lift I've ever dealt with. You can also check out ReadyLifts which I've also heard great things about...presuming they have the 3/1.

I’m really just wanting to level my truck out with a 3” kit. But I don’t wanna go the blocks and spacer rout mainly because I’ve heard that block lifts can break and they put a lot of unnecessary wear on the leafs

I hear ya. Blocks and spacers ride rougher as well. I just went from a block and spacer kit to the Toytecs 3 weeks ago. To start with, what tire size are you running? 3 inches in the front will make stock tires look small. You can go the Bilstein 5100 route which you can adjust to level the front, but the highest setting is less than 3 inches....they are shocks that use your stock springs. As far as coilovers, you can get 3 inch non-adjustable on the lower side of the price range, or you can get the adjustable 3 inch coilovers in which the price is higher. It really depends on your budget and end goal. Call and ask for David or Hugo at Toytec. @Toytec Lifts
Here is mine. I have the Toytec Alumas 2.5 coilovers, SPC UCA's, Boss rear shocks with resis, 1/2 inch axle shims, and Toytec shackles at 1.5. I run 285/70/18's on a 0 offset wheel.
