I have a 2021 Crewmax SR5 4x4 Trail Edition. I tow a 6K trailer 2x-3x a month, plus a load of about 300# in the bed. I am getting a decent amount of rear end sag, and the ride feels really soft when towing.

Previous truck was a 2017 Crewmax SR5 4x4 TRD (not pro). I do not recall having as much rear end sag and softness when towing. I assume the 2017 TRD had stiffer shocks than the regular SR5.

I do very mild off road about 6-8 times a year. Main concern is better ride and less sag when towing. I would prefer NOT to install air bags.

I am looking to install the Bilstein 6112 in the front, and the Bilstein 5160 in the rear. i want to gain about 2" of lift. Front is easy with the circlips on the 6112, and I am looking at Coachbuilder +3 shackles for the rear. I am also considering installing the TRD Rear Sway Bar (if I can find one).

I am running factory Michelin tires (275/65) on 18" wheels. When I replace the tires, I might go to a 285/75 in the future.

Any issues or concerns with the suggested set-up above?

    Thanks!

    Pete

Sounds like my setup. I’m very happy with it considering the cost. I’m currently running 275 70 18 and will bump up to 285 70 18 in about 10k miles.

This setup provides a nice balance for on-road everyday driving, towing, and off-roading.

I doubt you’ll be able to clear 285 75 18 without some additional mods or surgery.

Re sag - run a WDH if you have a travel trailer. If you still have an issue, you don’t want to hear it but airbags is your best solution short of new springs IMO.

Even with a wdh, the suspension is extremely soft and lacks a feeling of control.

Well I placed an order for the Coachbuilder 3+ shackle, Bilstein 6112 coilovers for the front and Bilstein 5160s for the rear, along with the TRD Sway Bar.

Now I wait.....the 6112's are out of stock everywhere, and the Sway Bar is also hard to find. I will post before and after photos once it is all installed.......

Well I got tired of waiting for the 6112's and decided to go with the Eibach 2.0 Coilover for the front, still using the 5160's for the rear. I am starting to second guess myself on the Coachbuilder 3+ shackle in the rear, just from a towing concern. I do not NEED the extra height in rear. Would I be better off keeping the factory rear shackles, and forgo installing the CB 3+?

Any negative issues if I do install the CB3+ from a towing/hauling perspective?

    TIA!

What do you have upfront? I installed a winch bumper brush guard and need to lift the front end up about 2.5"..
I like the stance on your Tundra... Very nice.

I also have rear bags and on board compressor for towing. So no sagging for me anymore.

    Thank you. :hattip:
I’m running 6112 set at 1.9” with a CB shim on driver side. CB+2 shackle in the back. You’ll want to go full height with that weight and may even want to look at the new 8112 Billy’s with some UCAs to get the height you want with that heavy bumper.

Hoping I can get some direction here.

I’m planning on 6115/5160 for my Tundra with CB shackles. I don’t really care about raising the ride height in the rear more then an inch. Rear rides at 39.25 currently so I thought the +1 CB would be enough.
What height would I set the fronts to?

Second part is I recently installed the Firestone RideRite system and the ride quality is absolutely horrible even with minimal air pressure. I have a cap that I will be reinstalling in the next week or two so that’ll give me 200lbs on the bed. Not sure if that will smooth out the ride or not.

Okay trying to help those with CB shackle questions. I have the +1 and essentially used it to fix the .5” sag I had from a cap and decked drawers. I think for that purpose and off-road articulation and flex it has worked well but when hauling additional gear it doesn’t provide additional load capacity and sags quickly. I switched to Old man emu CS055r leaf springs and they did the trick! Ride is stiffer but more controlled and pairs well with the 5160 shocks. I got 1.5” of lift with the 450lbs or so I have on/in the bed. You can remove one of the two overload springs for less lift/load capacity. Wheelers had them for just under $500 shipped to my door with a 10% email newsletter discount and was well worth it. You can use them with a CB shackle in the future if need be as well.
