Seems the brush guard did pretty good.
I expected worse from a 55mph hit. I was on a 55mph road, but slowed to under 20 when i hit the deer.

With daytime temps in the 80's here it's riding season so all work on the truck has been suspended indefinitely. I did get an estimate of $523 from the highly-reputable Az Driveshafts over in Mesa to balance the shaft and replace the joints and support bearing though. Just need to take the time to run it over and drop it off.

Absolutely. The best of drivers can, at least once, at some point in their lives. So what does that make a driver who hits =1-2 or more in the course of 6-12 months?

I'm posing it more like this: If someone recently hit a deer or two with their vehicle and didn't seem to be bothered much by it, then asked to borrow your truck a week or two after their most recent strike, how comfortable or confident would you feel? Would you let them do it?

I guess I know my cousins too well, along with a couple of my uncles. They'd do sorta what it reads Noah's dad did: Make no changes to route, driving habits, style, or behaviors, and not pay to have the damage professionally repaired, instead offering for an at-home fix.

I dunno. I'm conflicted. No disrespect intended to anyone here. I take stuff I care about seriously and get irritated when I see others don't recognize and-or share that respect. I shouldn't get rubbed the wrong way, it's not even my truck, and not my family. I'll stfu about it.

Oh, and you almost forgot one - I guess it's about time of year to post this:

Are these a good candidate for HVAC/Radio instrument lights? 120 beam angle and the green might match well.

There are also these, which have the mounting plastic bracket built in, although for the instrument cluster, some have put JB weld on the front facing LED, because it's too bight.

Thoughts? The LEDs are addictive, but I want them to match and look coordinated with the green that I can't change.

Nah I get that. It's just kind of a way of life in my area. Hell I've almost hit 3 in the past month, just a danger of driving roads through rural areas, one route isn't inherently better than the other just different.

I mean, I almost hit four while in upstate NY a couple months back, and that's not an exaggeration to fill a story line. Deer at night are damn everywhere up there, especially around the lakes. Key word for both of us there is almost hit. In areas with trees on either side of the road, I was highbeams on, watching carefully for eyes up and down both sides of the road, sometimes going slower than posted speed limit in denser thicks. If I saw signs of something standing up, I slowed the hell down. If I saw one or more eyes shining back, I slowed the hell down and made noise as needed. And IDGAF as much because I was in a rental at the time, but I've also seen what can happen when deer come through a windshield and it ain't purty.

I get why someone may not want to be that way, maybe they're in a hurry, impatient, or just dgaf. Personally, I prefer to shoot my meat and carry it home, not clobber it and leave on the side of the road. Venison jerky tastes better without the adrenaline.

Anyone have a set of these collecting dust in the garage? Looking for a set, willing to pay of course. I prefer to reuse someone else's old parts than buy more cheap plastic shit from China.

Sure, but I'll get it over there in ~ month. The $523 quote was likely upper-range to cover their butts but knowing them I'll bet the total comes out to less.

Actually, I do have a pair of aftermarket ones that are still in the bag. I got them for my 2003. Not sure if they are the same size. But mostly likely made in China.

Nice! I'd like to replace mine, but spending $900 for an OEM or $500 for an aftermarket one is something I'm only willing to do if I get my frame repaired first.

Ran me $275 with me pulling the driveshaft and dropping it off to them on my Tundra. They aren't the cheapest around but I'm comfortable paying extra for competence. They also did a great job with my E-150 when I got tired of listening to my pinion bearing growl. I had them do 4.10 gears from the 3.55's I had, replaced axles/bearings, u-joints/balance shaft for just over $2k.

Yeah, I'm not surprised at any of this @Lil Steve . They've earned a hella reputation and are well-known for fixing other peoples screw-ups and doing what some say can't be done. I wouldn't consider going anywhere else and I'm very thankful they're around.

Sonavafugginbitch! Not judging but I think hard braking at first sight might have enough to prevent hitting it? Of course it's entirely possible he didn't see it as well as it's displayed on the footage.

Might be time for one of these.

Claims he didn't see it as soon as the cam saw it because of the a pillar. Dash can is literally right behind rear view. Claims brakes were hard which does happen sometimes. Not often, but does happen.

Hmm, interesting. I assumed the deer was running. It definitely was right in the way but that was a pretty chill walk. And with the swerve, not like swerving right would have for sure avoided impact either. Hmm...

I always assumed deer impact was from them running fast and you just can't do anything about it but this is like slamming on the brakes on black ice and just waiting to hit the tree almost.

I've never experienced anything like your brakes. Mine are too soft and yours were the opposite. Can we meet in the middle? I literally thought I was going to have to pull a Fred Flintstone to stop your truck.

    New calipers didn't fix it?

No. It's not that crazy of a truck really. If and when it gets more power I'll consider caging it, but I haven't seen DOM prices in a while and it would likely Make me cry.

Yea my truck had it's frame replaced around 2015 and it still looks incredible even though its home is Northern Ontario, Canada. Gas tank sprung a significant leak right after I filled it up, so I didn't really have a choice. Dabbled with the idea of using some gas tank repair product but ultimately decided against it. Now that I see the crack was on the side as opposed to on the bottom of the tank I suppose I probably could have gotten away with using it, but I'd hate for it to start leaking again at a more inconvenient time in the future. Spent a few days looking for the best priced tank I could get and wound up going with a Spectra tank from RockAuto, shipped to my door for $655 CAD ($527 USD) total.

Trying to attack noises one at a time. @Darkness I think it was, reminded me in his build to adjust the hood bumpers. I would like to replace the latch, but good for now, one less noise.
