Just installed my 8” exhaust. Didnt have the tool to cut for the helmholtz resonator so i figured id try it without it for a few days or so or until im able to get the tools. While truck sounds amazing im starting to question if maybe i shoulda went with the 10. Just how much interior noise does the resonator quieten? Ive got pretty sensitive ears and the boomy, deep tones in the cabin especially going up any sort of incline at all arent for my liking at all. Is that what the resonator will take care of?

The resonator is for drone. I run mine without one. Just turn the radio up louder lol.

Yes. The resonator will quiet the interior, tune the sound and cancel the deep boomy tone you’re referencing.

Even if you swap to a different size, you’ll still want the resonator installed.

I ran the 8 and 12 BAM systems with and without the resonator. The 12 with resonator was my favorite, but I like a quieter exhaust. The 8 without resonator is pretty aggressive. The resonator will definitely tame it inside - hopefully enough for your liking. Good luck.

FYI.. It’s much easier to cut the hole for the resonator with the tail pipe removed. Make sure you mark it before removing…

So is there THAT much difference in say the 8 or 10 or 12? All with resonator on. I saw an older post here or in another group u mentioned owning the 8 and really liked it. Is it really a huge difference in the two?

Should u put any silicone or anything on the pipe where resonator goes or just clamp it down like it is?

I ran an 8 for 4 years with the rez.
It was great, but a tad loud for this old man.
A little loud on startup and too raspy when you jump on it, for me.
I swapped it for a 10 and have never been happier..

Get your rez installed and run it for a month or so.
It will kill the drone you may be experiencing that you find unpleasing.

If you don't like it, Keith will swap it for a 10, you pay initial and return shipping of course.
I did it and never looked back..

I had to install the rez twice, long story.
Never did remove the exhaust pipe to install it, but I did remove the spare, installed the rez, and put it back in.
May not be necessary, but I do remember doing it for some reason.
Marked the pipe with the spare in, but removed it to cut the hole and mount it.

    Rez install starts at 10:00....

Thanks for the responses guys. To the OP, huge difference by installing the resonator. For some guys, it makes or breaks the system.

    ]I have the 8" system

    Before (stock)

    https://youtu.be/nW7zMZ1gkbk

After with 8 inch (no resonator)

    https://youtu.be/aj7jmh02UXA

And here is my post about adding the resonator:

Just wanted to give an update for anyone interested. I ran the 8 inch w/o resonator for about 2 months and just put on the resonator. My first impression without the resonator was that the truck was much louder than i expected. I wasn't sure if I liked it to be honest. On a long trip you could hear it at cruising speeds. From what I read here I thought it would only be noticeable at WOT. Over the 2 months it really grew on me though. I found myself revving it, flooring it, and using the "manual mode" just to hear it. Very immature I know :p It definitely had a little more power over stock that I could feel. It also would backfire some. Yes it did have some drone but it wasn't terrible.

So over this past weekend I had access to a lift and decided to go ahead and put the resonator on. Wasn't too hard with lift access and a hole saw. I took off the spare tire just to make it easier.

First impression with the resonator is that it definitely took the drone out that I had from about 1800-2000RPM. But also right off the bat it didn't really have that oomph on cold start. Also it feels like it may have sucked out that little bit of power that I gained without it. Additionally, its noticeably more quiet until you get high in the powerband. With the resonator its much more like what I had read about what to expect from this set up. At cruising speed its quiet but if you romp on it you can hear it. I kind of miss the rawness now it had without the resonator but this is much more daily friendly. Doesn't really backfire any more and even at WOT it seems a bit toned down than before. Its almost like a silencer in a way. Also I can once again hear the engine over the exhaust with the resonator where I could not without the resonator.

I would suggest for anyone wonder to go without it first and see if you can live with it and if its just too much add the resonator. Just wanted to share my .02 in case anyone was wondering what to expect with and without the resonator. But I'm very happy with the set up and wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Cheers:thumbsup:

IMO the resonator has the biggest impact on drone and the booming interior sound. The case length controls the volume and the amount of raspiness.
