Like I mentioned, I thing Toyota pays, better yet, it’s calculated into the truck cost, the first 6 gallons. The dealer pays for the rest but obviously they can afford to since they just made $$$ on the truck sale. As for why 6 and not 7-8-9 who knows but probably has to do with $$$.

I read somewhere that this is just the gas they put in them at the factory to use to run various QC and new car things before turning them loose.

It does look like the dealer is charging an extra $1090 for their bogus "add ons" though.

Clearbra paint protection?? Ex paint protection is just an over priced wax (sealer). Clear bra (ppf) is a clear film applied to the paint to help w/chips/scuffs/small scratches. Not sure if that answers anything tho lol

Not to hijack the thread - but:

My understanding is it’s more about storage and logistics - as mentioned dealer fills the tank at time of sale.

Think about it like this - dealer has 200-350 vehicles on lot any given day in normal times. Let’s say gas price goes down 40 cents - 200 times 20 gallons equals 1600 dollars in loss and a 40 cent variance is not exactly unusual.

There is also the fire hazard factor - if one car catches fire and the 60 packed in immediately beside it have only minimal fuel - the fire/heat factor are significantly reduced versus having the cars full of fuel.

There’s a few more things - but those were the biggies I was told as to why cars are delivered with only a small amount of fuel in the tank. Came up one day when talking to a dealer about his purchase of a big box store location that closed and the fight he just had with the local fire chief about parking his inventory inside. Evidently the chief was not onboard and refused to give a certificate of occupancy.

Our Chattanooga Toyota dealer will put your name on the list for $500. It's refundable for any reason. MSRP. So... I would not consider the OP strange. If you haven't already done so, I'd call and ask for the sales manager to verify.

The only tidbit of information I can offer is that Chattanooga says they've been getting calls from Atlanta buyers... which doesn't jive with your story of an out of towner flying in to Atlanta to purchase a vehicle. Eh... who knows. It's a crazy market right now.

$500 plus the cost of round trip airfare.

I'm conservative when spending this kind of money, if it was me I wouldn't be in such a rush. Take your time, test drive it locally and find a dealer closer to your house. This isn't a rare, limited production vehicle, there are going to be plenty for sale. Just my .02

I'm the kind of guy that bought a Tundra without test driving it first :anonymous:. It was the 2007 model. Mrs. Bandito said I could buy a truck if agreed to buy cowboy boots (a fetish is a fetish, I guess). I knew I wanted the new Tundra -we were leasing a Sequoia at the time and, coming from parents who owned Toyotas, I didn't even think about test driving it. We looked at it, I liked it, we bought it, and then drove over to Cavenders to buy me a pair of boots.

OP, I hope it works out for you. Maybe if you buy it you can get you a pair of cowboy boots for the wife on the way out of town. ;)

Why not just wait until available locally?
Why waste your money and time flying to get a 2022 when they will be everywhere in a few months?
You gotta be the first one?

Hey, but it's your time and money.
    I wouldn't do it.

Idk about the 22 tank size but put 6 gal in my tank and it would barely cover the bottom of the tank enough for the pump to get suction.

I guess I was not clear in the original post. I started the thread in a bit of a rush maybe.
    - I don't "own it". It is a refundable deposit if that I have in writing.
    - I am not purchasing without test driving. I will test drive. If I don't like it I will not purchase and I will leave with my deposit. (Hopefully as per the agreement)
    - It is not round trip. Hopefully it is a one way flight and a new truck drive home. If not I will enterprise rent a car home. I lose a day of my life but learn a valuable lesson , possibly.
    - My plan was to purchase a new truck the end of this year. I have always wanted to go back to the tundra. I thought this was the best time to do so. I either wait for a domestic truck 6-12 weeks - yes I checked each of the big three or I get a tundra.
    - Every local Toyota dealership is over MSRP and or the allocated tundra has a deposit in it.
    - I agree, the 1000+ Toyota add-one are dealer money making schemes but that is nothing new for Toyota.
    Thank you all

I think you were pretty clear from the start really but are just not seeing the replies you were anticipating?

A lot of us are just tired of the bizarre song and dance from Toyota over every single aspect of this new truck and its rollout and are just almost over the whole thing in general and the way dealers are handling it all is not helping either whether it is their fault or the mothership caused it I am pretty soured to everything about this new truck.

Not that it really matters though as I am not a buyer regardless.

YMMV and I hope it does.

From something I learned from my friends waiting on their Ford Broncos....... Once the MSRP's are published, I would suggest you get the dealer to print you a pricing breakdown of the truck with "final sales price" listed at the bottom. Then request that the GM or sales manager sign it stating that this is the final price of the vehicle. You don't want to make a trip to the dealership and have them saddle you with a bunch of dealership add-ons you don't want.

I believe the 6 gallons is what is put in them when they come from the factory. It allows for moving them around and the test drive when the pdi is done.

    I actually purchased my 3rd 2022 Tundra.

    1. 1794 Non-hybrid
    2. Platinum Hybrid
    3. Capstone

The best ride and the smoothest transmission - The 1794 with the TRD Off road. The best looking and quietest cabin - The capstone.

For the money and the overall power if I could do it over again - I would get the non-hybrid 1794 TRD off road
