How do you use your truck?

The feedback you get from some people who genuinely can't understand why you'd buy such an off-road capable truck if you aren't seriously into that hobby is funny. My coworkers don't exactly understand it. But it's comfortable, spacious enough for all my needs, convenient for the weekend projects, and the family (total of 5 of us) enjoy piling in it and going to the beach. I use it to bomb over sand which is a ton of fun, but I'll admit I didn't need to get the Pro for that purpose. I definitely like seeing the overland custom builds that some have done, but know that's not the direction I'm going with it. I'm curious as to what "purpose" others have decided to use theirs for.

Here are mine.

When my daughter moved from NY to Denver, my truck towed a uHaul trailer and her stuff on the bed.
I drove into Rockies and did some mud driving after arriving Denver.
I carry my 14ft paddle board on the roof to the beach in Florida.
I carry my MTB to the state park trails. Sometime together with the paddle board.
Taking dog to the park.
Driving to grocery shopping.
Driving to tennis courts.
Use the bed lid as a workbench.
I replaced all speakers so that it becomes my listening room.

Maybe when roads are flooded, it will save our family's lives. I live on an island.

 

I don't use my truck for work either, it's a surf/camp/dd rig. I mostly love trucks because for what they are and not for what they were made for... unless made for going fast on the desert

 

I got mine for beach driving and beach trips, and for towing.

 

It's my daily driver, plus...

I take the family (5 plus a chocolate Lab) across the country for dispersed camping or across town to go for a bike ride:




I take lots of gear (guitars and amps) to work. Really appreciate the large backseat for this:


I haul stuff for house projects (recently built a deck and new cedar shutters, mulch, etc.):




The big cab and small bed are perfect for me and how I use my truck.

 

I have a truck cause I'm a truck dude.

It's funny when people ask "how much gas does thing thing take?" My answer is all the gas I pay to put in it.

It's like those people who pass judgement based on the kind of phone you have.

 

I really don’t worry about what others think of my purchase because I believe their free to do what they wish with their own money…

With that said I make no qualms about ever using the Tundra to its full potential.

I will never take it off-roading because ATVs and UTVs are cheaper to own and maintain (for me personally, I AM NOT KNOCKING anyone that uses the Tundra for that).

The most I ever were will tow is about 4K ish… and I don’t do it often.

I do use the bed to dirty garbage and general crap frequently.

My number one reason for going full-size over the Tacoma is to give my family a fighting chance in an accident. Drivers are utterly psychotic and reckless where I live…. The Tundra may not have the best safety ratings but it will fair much better than the RAV4 that comes careening into me at 80mph. Statistically speaking of course…

Two the Tacoma sucks with car seats period.

I love my truck therefore it’s worth it no matter what.

Put in sport mode and listen to that beautiful V8..
That's about it.

 

Thing is, once you have had a pickup, you can never go back to being without one. They are too useful. Even if you rarely put anything in the bed that couldn't fit in a trunk, the one time you need to haul a couch, yard waste, something smelly, a bed full of snow for the kids at home in the valley, That tree your wife just had to have at the nursery etc., you're glad you have it. (Yes, that was a run-on sentence.)

I use my truck for fun, for work and utility.

 

I more than likely won't do most "truck" things with mine. I wanted a bigger vehicle than my Yaris. In my opinion a Truck can do everything an SUV can, but an SUV can't do everything a Truck can. The most I weigh it down is with camping gear and Scouts. I haven't been asked to pull the Troop trailer yet.

I use mine to race other trucks, drive it to work once a week and to take my family on vacation and that's it. I Love the truck, I have worked for Toyota and have had many of them. This is my second S/C Tundra and I love it!

 

Primary use here is highway cargo hauler and to pull camp trailer. It does both well and in time should only get better. As someone else said, accident safety for the family was also part of the reason to purchase it.

 

This^^^^^. It's my DD, our family vacation travel vehicle, good for scuba trips, hauling, and towing. Also good for hauling folks around for work, since the interior is so nice. And don't forget the pups! They love being in the back seat with all the windows down, including the rear.

 

The Tundra is just my land yacht... which is different than my Land Cruiser

 

Having owned a very mildly built Jeep TJ and done some legit wheeling with it i can say with confidence there is nothing particularly 'off road capable' about the Tundra. It does fine but no lockers and long rear overhang mean it's a pickup that does fine in dirt but that's about it. Off road capable vs your neighbors Accord, yes.

 

My '15 Pro CC is the family vehicle (5 of us). We use it for everything, and we enjoy every moment of it!

We go wheeling every so often in the mountains.

Some day we'll go over landing and camping in it.

The big reason we got it was safety on the road, which is also why I'm putting a steel bumper on the front.

What azimuth said above is correct: trucks are just SOOO useful, and the Tundra is fun and reliable too!!

 

I pull my 19 ft jet boat with mine almost every weekend in the summer. Its probably way overkill for that specific purpose since my 2010 access cab Tacoma pulled it just fine. However, I wanted the back seat and still wanted to have a pickup box for all the weekend projects.

 

Chick's dig trucks ! Especially Tundras, nuff said.

I traded in my 97' 4runner for an 2005 DC for work, and realized that I will never not have a truck. I am in the construction trade, but I also tow with my truck, do cross country vacation/camping trips with it. I would still have my 2020 if I did not have to move to Canada, but the Sequoia is the next best thing. I can't wait to get another Tundra in the spring! May it be a used 2.0gen or the new 22'. Home-Depot trips suck without a proper truck bed.

 

Second this So far, I've only used it to get to work or highway road trips here and there. Every vehicle I've ever owned besides a 4Runner have all been 2 doors/coupes. Wanted to upsize into a 4 door vehicle or small pickup truck to spend more time with the nephew without struggling to get a baby seat in the back seat of a coupe every time and wanted manual transmission again. Originally was in the market for a Tacoma X-Runner or a Tacoma, but came across a fair deal with the Tundra from a private seller that was having a moving sale around when COVID started so I couldn't pass it up.

Every region has natural disasters, that seems like enough justification to have a truck.
