Some one was talking about raises somewheres? Stagnant employees get forked? Yes. Last raise was 23 cents. Back paid previous two weeks is an extra $25 based on years served, knowledge, and aptitude to help others. Management told us not to discuss our raises. First thing we did was talk about it. I ended up getting the lowest. Lol

Pulled a 13 on a Saturday. Called in super early. Time to apply. Was hoping to skate till I had a week off to peruse Knoxville, but my feet can't wait. Need something soon.

Do it. I've been pleased with my decision so far. There's something better out there for you. Do your due diligence and find what's right for you, and advances your career path, even if it means a pay cut for now. Hell, stay there and take some college courses if that's what you want. I know the union here starts apprentii at $14.00 an hour with raises every 1000 hours, and great benefits. Maybe that's a path you could pursue.

Damn. Last time I heard about someone getting a $0.23 raise was back in 86 when pay was $3.35/hour.

The only good thing is that concert tickets were cheaper than the price of a T-shirt back then at like $17-$25 each for general seating.

It's a weird thing some companies do to their tenured people. At my last job with Keurig, there was a guy on my team doing the exact same job as me(but with more work load). He had been there 10 years and rose up through the ranks. I got hired from the outside and was making 25% more because that was market rate. It was total b.s. I was mad for him. They did the same thing with other people on the team who were making less than new hires. Most of the time annual raises are a joke.

That's a slap in the face dude.
Even if someone isn't advertising an opening, go in and talk to them if you're interested in their company.
The bigger the company, the easier they can bring you on if they like you and your resume.
    Don't forget your 2 weeks!

It wasn't an annual raise. My annual raise was 45 cents. This raise was to help stop us from leaving. Some got $1.70, some got .23 cents.

We've had three guys in maintenance leave for else where. We've all been bitching at them to get off the dolla and make it rain. Production has had two $1.50 raises in six months. Planning a third. Production makes more than I do in maintenance now. They dont Deal with blades, toxic fumes, electrocution, crushing, dismemberment like we do.

Let's see how much they value maintenance when everyone leaves and they have another pipe burst.

5 months ago production got their first 1.50 raise. We said "Okay, cool. A lot of them are over worked and under paid." Two months later they got their second 1.50 raise. We said "Okay, cool. Good for them."

We had guys leave. Work load increases. We said "Hey, if you're gonna increase our shifts, and increase the amount of bull shit we have to go through you'll have to increase the pay."

(Bull shit being: Change a mold mid-shift so they can run a quarter of the shift and then change it back to what we took out. Office checks inventory, and realizes dilbert counted wrong. Need to go back to the same mold we just took out... I swear, none of those fuckers can read. These mold changes typically take an hour for one change, usually tying up two of our four guys on my shift.)

Back to the raise: the office said "Okay, we'll give you a raise. It'll be on the next check. Oh, sorry. Next check... oh, my bad. Next check. Maybe the next one? Etc." 2 months later the president said "we are hoping for at least a $4 raise per man." Two weeks later, the highest raise was $1.71, and the lowest was 23 cents. They said it was all they could spare. (Boy, don't that make you feel good! All you could spare? Spare these fuckin nuts!)

We asked why everyone got different raises, and they said "You guys shouldn't be talking about your raises amongst yourselves, but here's why: based on how long you've been here, your knowledge, your work ethic, and your aptitude."

So now we are all irritated. A guy put in his two weeks, and they counter offered him $30 an hour. He took it, and now he's leaving too because they aren't making good on the promises made.

I'm just watching the ship sink now like this.

My little bro just went through similar. He's a Paramedic Supervisor, they promised him a $3/hour raise and kept putting him off. Well his wife finally graduated and started work as an RN so he didn't really need to work.

Walked into the supervisors office said I'm done after this shift. What do you know by the end of the shift all the paperwork was done and retroactive.

What they don't want you to think is that you've got leverage at this point. You know their systems, you know they're short staffed, they can't afford to let you go, as evidenced by what they offered your coworker.

If you really want to gamble, walk in tell them you got a job offer, and that you're done at the end of the week. There's no requirement for a notice, you could call today and tell them you're done.

not the same depth as Noah but ours is pretty bad too, we got a 1% merit raise or some bull shit, a bigger slap in the face than .23 cents.
It’s also hilarious, this one guy;the guy who checks his bank account every day to make sure he can buy frivolous stuff, was bitching about how some of us made TWO CENTS more than him and a few others. It was explained to him why that was the case; something with HR and the amount of hours in the year or something. He kept bitching about it, finally they changed it so we all get bent over the same……… guess what, that extra 2 cents an hour bumped him and everyone else into a different tax bracket and now he takes home less!!!!! Hahahahahha

Tenured guy left three months ago because a new guy made 4 cents more than him. Tenured guy came back here this past Monday for LESS money than he was making before but kept his seniority, time off accrual, etc.

That's one thing that at least is nice with a Union, as many complaints as I have about some of the policies you know what everyone is making and these type of pay inconsistencies don't happen. End of the day a lot of the trades guys could make more in construction but they also don't have to work out in the elements and don't have to do any jobs they don't want here.

I'll gamble when I have another job lined up. I did text one of the guys that left and asked him if I could use him as a reference because I know for a fact he was buddy buddy's with the manager, and the supervisor. They still chat on the phone occasionally so I know he will tell one of them.

They haven't seen me play mind games yet.

Yeah, very fortunate to be in the union here. We got 7% this April for market adjustment/cola. The negotiating committee is trying for the same for our next contract in April '22.
I don't miss my construction days and hitting my cheap as boss up for a raise.

    To change the subject:

Unpopular opinion: Halloween is stupid, Thanksgiving is a far superior holiday and doesn't get enough credit being sandwiched between dumbass Halloween and Christmas.

I like the union so far. There's a few things I don't like. For one, they don't take my 17 years experience into account, so I'm making the same as a fresh journeyman. And they supply all the power tools so all my stuff just sits in my shed.

Even though the union doesn't recognize my masters, all the people I work with do. Word has gotten around, and I've already proven my skill. The personnel dude has been here a few times and has already talked about putting me in a truck and running a crew at the end of this job.

Yeah, that was different for sure. I got a decent raise when I went union so I was happy.
I'm one of the few at my work with a state 01 license, my supervisor loves it with my experience in construction and code compliance.

A lot of companies do this. My company does it. I've seen them post job openings that will hire external at $80k. Internal people making $70k will apply for the job only to learn that the $80k is only for external hires and the best an internal hire can hope for is 6% ($74k). I compare it to how cell phone companies will offer free phones to new customers but existing, loyal, longtime customers have to pay for the phone.

Because of all that we also end up with tenured emoyees making less than new kids out of college. Lots of managers make less than their emoyees even, especially if their employees are hourly.

In other news, I got a beer for my dog.

Oh, I know why. The end of an Era. Glad I got to experience snow days, and trick or treating.

My little brother is in high school, and they didn't miss a day for that snow storm we had in February. It was all virtual.

We only had one family come to our door. We live in a neighborhood (the same neighborhood I grew up in). I always remember there being people all over the neighborhood when I was younger (only 23 now). Guess it mostly has to do with trunk or treat type stuff. Hate to see it, just doesn't feel the same.
