Surprised you didn’t quarter him in the field. How the heck did you get it in the bed?

Edit: you must’ve been able to drive the truck right up to him too. Theres no dragging an elk out lol. Private land?

 

He was 100 yards from service road. Had 2 game wardens watch me. They came and checked my tags. Then helped me drag him to the road, which was all down hill. Drove my truck up and they helped me load him in. Got really lucky. Been a good month for big game for me. Time to switch to small game next weekend.

 

Got a buck my first week out.


Then my hunting partner got his first branch antlered bull. We had a fun day of packing in the rain!

 

Nice. I miss hunting in N. Idaho (grew up in Moyie Springs). Getting too damn expensive for those out of state tags...

 

It’s getting harder to hunt anymore all my good spots I used to hunt as a kid have homes on them.

my best friend is from st Marie’s area so we been hunting it hard up there the past few years.

Shot this one last night. Saw him coming in at 40 yards, pulled back when he got within 30 yards and waiting for him to come into my 20 yard shooting slot. Instead came in on the path I scouted and after a quick grunt he stopped broadside at 10 yards. Arrow passed straight threw, he ran about 50 yards and fell over. Happened so fast, then I started to tremble, shaking the tree. What a rush! Biggest buck I ever took.

 

Was fortunate to get this guy this morning checking a scrape. Only 3rd time out this season so very thankful. Too much work and not enough hunting. Good luck to the rest of you.

Packed out this beautiful old buck from a large wilderness area yesterday. Hard DIY hunt out of my tent. Thought the Tundra fans would enjoy the TRD decal. (Sorry about photo alignment; I can’t fix it)

Wow a whole side broken off?

 

Yes. He’s a fighter. Three points on the left side. He would have been a 10 or 12 pt with the left side intact. Taxidermist says at least 5.5 years old, and the one 7.5 year old I killed had absolutely flat teeth, so probably in that range. For that area his rack is huge. His body was enormous. I hunted him last year and saw him but couldn’t get a good shot, so I went back and really thought hard about the set up it would take to get him. Shot him at five yards. Aggressive sob!

 

Pretty rare to see an entire side broken off. Definitely a fighter. And a shot at 5 yards! Congrats!
