There's an episode of Meateater where Rinella goes to New Zealand and does the same thing, only he uses a knife not a spear. It honestly looks badass and I wouldn't say no if offered the chance to try it.

Rinella always kinda annoyed me. Then I found his book 'American Buffalo' on audio. He does the narration and tells his story of a drop in bison hunt, the stalk, the kill and packing it out. Goes through a lot of bison history in the Americas along the way as well as his own backstory. Changed my mind on the guy. He's kinda a badass.

 

Rinella does a fantastic job of story telling. Takes every day people and how they live and shows how awesome it is.
I also really like the field to the kitchen approach of meateater.

 

I was kind of the same until I really started watching him. His passion and love for all things wild is infectious. I never enjoyed watching hunting shows, because they're always a bunch of rednecks hooting and hollering and being overly dramatic. Rinella doesn't do any of that, it's all about the pursuit and respect for the game and the end product. The fact that a ton of his episodes end with him leaving empty handed shows humbleness. I have American Buffalo in my audible playlist for my next road trip.

Randy Newberg on youtube is along the same lines. Passionate, advocate for public land access, no drama bullshit and just a ton of respect for the sport and the animals.

 

Nice. An LC80 to get around, too. I don't see how his dogs understand him, though, with that thick NZ accent.

Waiting for my sons soccer practice to end. We’ve gotten to the age where I pretty much sit in the car and wait. The lot is a big open field, but the amount of people that combat to park as close to the soccer fields is insane. My son always asks why I park so far back, but I tell him you should watch the assholes that come into the lot and the way they drive. I’m honestly surprised no ones hit a kid.

 

What's funny is I read it as " We Care, but you package screwed up our entire operation"....

 

I parked close to the fields one time. As talented as these kids are, the amount of errant shots that completely clear the net between the parking lot and the field is insane.
