What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Well, finished up with getting the brakes bled and the truck all cleaned up on top. Now time to fluid film for winter. Truck looks pretty good from 5 feet away and after 2 coats of Griots ceramic wax.

 

Nice work. I just tried out some fluid film for the first time on part of the suspension/frame.

Got my temp sensor cable run correctly and re-soldered it to the mirror. Much better. I want to wrap these chrome bumper trim pieces and the mirror caps with the dark gray satin 3M wrap, but how the hell do you get the plastic trim pieces off without damaging them or the bumper?

If I ever get the chance and they get cheaper, a flir thermal front camera with detection is on the list. Would be amazing for avoiding shit at night

 

the 3M stuff is a good match. Looks way better than black with our color Tundras. Hit me up if you have any Qs along the way. Wrapping is pretty easy if you watch a few YT vids and take your time.

 

Would one box cover those 3 grille bars or is it a two box job? I might have to do this now.

 

I was able to do all three chrome strips with one roll of 5'x1'

 

I think this is one of my next tasks after some maintenance. It will go nicely with my blacked out headlights and black wheels.

@912 for the mirror caps specifically, any thoughts on your decision to wrap vs paint? Sorry to be coming at this after the fact but I was genuinely curious. I'm trying to decide if I get dodge mirrors and drill or stick with FGT and paint or wrap. Kinda 50/50 right now.

 

I think the wrap is a lot easier and more durable than painting personally. Also, you don't even need to remove the caps to wrap them.

Yea this is awesome. Nice clean bumpers and sliders. Solid. I like the high clearance rear bumper a lot.

I was hoping to start the wrap today but couldn't find the time. Maybe tomorrow. Going to watch some YouTube videos tonight to figure out my plan and strategy for the wrap. My passenger side mirror is loose now. Going to do the same epoxy-in-a-washer-to-tighten-up-the-nut-trick. It would be awesome if I could get the wrap done tomorrow.

I'm still messing around with the 3d-printed fog light pods for the Baja Designs squadrons. And I am hopefully getting my LED projector retrofits done next week too. I know the truck will never be done but it does feel like it's all coming together. Oh yea, and rear springs still...

Question: Is there a light on the footwell of the passenger of the '06 DC or is it just a glovebox light?

Thinking of deleting the brush guard...

I was looking for a front pic of my truck but this is the closest I could find. I sprayed mine with a gritty black paint and feel like it blends much better. I'll work on getting a better pic of the front.

They are easy to make. The hardest part was getting the halo ring epoxied to the shroud. Oh and keeping everything clean on the inside.
Parts list
Full size turbine shrouds
D2s projectors with the threaded base
Quasim switchback halos (80mm)
Jb weld putty
Some headlight shells to open up and reuse
cheapo RGB demon eyes
Butyl rubber to reseal the housing
Heat gun to put the housing back together
An oven or maybe a heat gun to get the housings apart.
Black paint for everything that was chrome

Etching:
You can try the etching paste, but when I tried it on my first projectors it didn't really work. The best way for me was to get a paint mask made and use a cheapo hopper fed sand blaster with aluminum oxide media.

I had (well have off vehicle now) a set of Cooper Discoverer H/T's. They were good tires, wore well, then one day the rubber turned hard & they had no grip. Zero.
I replaced them with a Set of the Wildpeaks a/tw3 because I've loved them on the Tundra, so now the Tacoma has them too. Only issue with them is when I sometimes drive on the lawn - they sure do tear it up. But that is their purpose, so WildPeaks & stay off my lawn!

 

I had forgot about this, I hope this works out. I was scared to try it when I came across it awhile back lol
