There's some great pros to it...custom tuning, more hp and torque, additional gauges, etc...con- Some have reported they fried their CPU...

None really just like to go fast. Price seems to be 4-5 bills.

Did they fry it flashing? Because when your flashing you MUST hook up a battery charger.

Here is the thing. IMO now. Bully dog is a nice system dont get me wrong. increase in hp is minimal 10 or 15 hp maybe 30ft torque. You can about get those numbers with a deck plate mod to the air box and cost maybe 25 bucks and hour of your time.

Problem is toyota will not release the password to the ecm to aftermarket. . Bully dog does enter a line command into the ecm but in the long run the ecm will over ride in the long run. The only way to get around this problem is use a piggy back system. Basically two ecms master and a slave but the thing is master ecm will over ride slave ecm (toyota) and unlock the full engine to go fast enough.

Mike, are you 100% sure on this part? From everything I read, it's a permanent change that wouldn't be overridden...?

I think your WAY over reaching your 25 dollar deck plate mod for 15-20hp and 30tq...supercharged guys maybe - NA guys hahah good luck.

Google SABM Tundra. Thats the "deckplate" mod for tundras.

Here is the thing. Bully dog has NOT UNLOCKED the ecm. All the bully dog does is changes the way it behaves. The ecm can still override the bull dog. The ecm ( and the firmware) is still 100 % in control of the engine not the bully dog. Bully dog is still a slave not a master. Master controls everything like in a piggy back system.

example here. i give you part of a password to my wifi at the house. Does that mean you will get online? answer NO. Ecm of today are no different.

If you cant get into the core of the ecm and change at core level your still LOCKED OUT. Most Gm and fords and dodge they have the passwords so they have FULL control of what the ecm does thats a real tuner.

ok now if toyota would release the password to bully dog ( the sky would be on fire then) then you have a REAL tuner in your truck. Till then you have a $400 to 600 paper weight SLAVE as stated from above.

His kit is nice but alittle research and time i could do it cheaper and better. All off the shelf parts he uses.. haha.

I agree it can be done cheaper...its the numbers to the wheels you will have a hard time convincing me of on a NA motor.

na motor can do wanders if set up correctly. We use to change nothing but jets in carbs get 30 hp out on the dnyo easy.. Todays ecm is no different first it has to LEARN and RELEARN. Alot depends on what YOU know and what YOU apply to the application to do it right. Math and physics.

Edit i should also add if your intake in not smooth on the inside your losing hp right there before you get to the engine do to turbulence and slowing down air flow.

Agreed except there would be elephants dancing on Balsa wood trees too while the sky is burning. Toyota ECM is like your immune system. The ECM programming reacts to anything abnormal. Anything plugged into the system that is counter to it's core programming is treated by the ECM as an abnormality and will compensate to correct it. The ECM is capable of re-learning certain functions that are programmed in to allow it to re-learn. Bully Dog folks appear to be good at what they do. I haven't owned one so I can't attest to their alledged greatness. Heard mostly good things.

Depends.. there is alot of (what if) do to the ecm still locked up.

Trucky what will more likely happen is the ecm will just relearn to the bully dog commands. Remember our ecms are always learning and changing ( they all do no matter who makes it) It will ignore some but not all.. i beleive the gains of 15 hp is about right do to thats the max curve you can get out before the ecm jumps back and says no no.

Bully dog might have some nice features but its still a over priced for very little it helps.

    Just my .02

    This is very true.

Bully is more suited for big three not toyota. Toyota is a different beast when it comes to ecm reprogramming.

The BD has some cool non performance related tweaks. Quite a few based on their data sheet.

Ya a little better mpg and seems to stay in 6th longer at highway speeds. "Lugs" better. Might spool up a little quicker also.

the owner of BAMufflers, who Is in communication with Bullydog says this to the question:

    Question:
can or will the ecu override the bullydog programming over time in any way?

    Answer:
Definitely not. When you do the download it's written into the hard drive of the trucks ecu. It's as good as if Toyota had programmed it themselves.

I had been thinking about trying this, so the earlier post thru me for a loop! Im not really sure what to think about it now.

To bad Ive got a flex fuel. I could just supercharge it and be done with it.

You can still SC it...it'll just be a different route that needs to be done.

Im laughing so hard at this im about to pee myself... toyota ecms dont have hard drives. Its all stored on chips not hard drive. Hard drive would Crash the first bump you hit hard off road. Not only that you would have to wait about 6 seconds to start everytime to do plates spinning down in hard drive. Toyota would be dumb to use solid state drives. They have so many writes and reads before failure.

Second if this was a perm. Fix then you shouldnt need the bully dog display then to make it work.. like is said its still a slave unit.

Third sean is right to can sc a flex engine. Have toyota reflash the ecm so it can take the sc. You cant reflash a 2015 right now to sc.

Four. I will give you my personal number and you can call me if you like so we can talk about this indeep details on this.

You don't need the bullydog display after you flash the ecu. you can keep it plugged up, but its not needed like the hypertech is.

I would imagine he just used the term hard drive not knowing it was the wrong term.

I know, I just don't like the idea of a stand alone running a 5k blower...
