I must have missed something here. This thread moves too fast. Sounds like everything is okay though?

 

How are your puncture wounds?

 

Dad and I tried breaking up our dogs fighting. We both got bit. Dad had to get stitches.

All good, but I have to re-home one of my males. He just won't get along with my dad's male. And he watches the dogs when I am away or just the fact I take the dogs to his 1.5 acre place all the time.

 

Puncture wounds are doing well. My arm still hurts from the tentanus shot. Still a good sized knot in the deltoid.

Sad to hear about the rehoming. Muzzle training isn't an option?

We tried that. Both dogs are fricking Houdini hounds and get out of everything we've tried. We even tried shock collars. They won't break apart for nothing. And they are both stubborn and won't give up the fight once it's started.

 

Well that sucks man.

 

It's a bummer. He's a great dog. Just doesn't like other males except my other males. But I think it's because they grew up together.

How’s dad’s pain levels?

 

I assume you're either breeding them every 6 months or have then neutered?

 

He says pain level is good. Only hurts when hit touches or hits the back of his hand. He can't grip tight either, not because of pain, but the swelling on the sutures causes them to pull and he doesn't want to rip a stitch out.

 

Why do I get the vibe that your dad is a rough and tumble sort who would say his pain was fine, because he just figures anything that hasn't killed him yet is fine?

 

Hopefully, that swelling will ease up.

No, just his female for breeding. His male and female are siblings. Same with my youngest lab. We were going to try to bred Beta with his female, the one who starts the fights, as he is a rescue and not blood related. We were advised to wait as long as we could. We are doing it now, as they are now 2. Vet said with labs the sexual hormones help ligament growth and development. Neuter at 18-24 months if we could wait that long. Issues started in September. December 1 they are 24 months.

 

I didn't mean breeding together. I just meant that males can have attitude problems if they aren't fixed AND not getting to get the sexual frustrations addressed. General rule (from what little I know) is that males need to get laid every 6ish months or get snipped to not be assholes. I'm just spitballing things that might allow you to keep your pup. My experience is limited, though, because I won't have male dogs.

 

Just they he's always been. Grew up farming. Now a trucker for grain growers company hauling wheat all year. The only person I know/knew who was tougher was his dad, my grandpa. He was an old dairy farmer in Wisconsin before moving out here and then became a logger. So many stories with that guy. Dad said he seen him toss a cow out of the barn like he was throwing hay bails after she stepped in the milk pail for the last time during milking.

It does. Looks a lot better tonight when I checked it after dinner. He will have a good scar, that's for sure.

I've tried to stud them. But got no takers. Had a few breeders come look at them though. Sucks, I'd really like a pup from this guy, Thor, as I just think he's a great looking lab who is mild mannered. Great pet, lousy hunter. Just no drive for it. His aunt, my oldest is a natural hunter though, so no complaints. And between all 3 of my labs, I paid only $100 for them.

My dad grew up working in the family sawmill.
I still hear stories from people how he would outwork grown men.
Did the steel mill thing until he went to work for Eastern in the early 80s.

I’ve never seen anything slow him down or complain until the unspeakable coughid last year.

His dad was that way at one time, but alcohol ruined him.
My great grandfather would stomp a mud hole in a mud holes ass.

He is a goofball. Of all my labs, he still looks like a 6 month old. I swear he didn't grow up lol. But he's definitely not little he 90 pounds!
