I've been criss crossing the country and CO like a mad man for the past 4 or 5 weeks.

Last week, I was working Telluride and the tire pressure, traction control and ABS lights came on. 4HI and 4LO lights blinked at me a few times as well and the truck wouldn't go into 4WD unless I shut it off, flipped the switch and restarted. None of the places I was in actually needed 4WD although it would have helped.

It's currently at Stevinson for the 50k service and they pulled codes. It's showing U0114 which means "Lost communication with four wheel drive clutch control module and lost communication with steering wheel angle sensor module." A little digging shows it's possibly an issue (power and/or ground) with the CAN bus. Stevinson wants to keep the truck into next week for further diagnostics.

I'm supposed to be working in Aspen this weekend, jumping on a plane Monday, back in Denver Wed and then back to Aspen next weekend.

Has anyone had this happen? Should I let dealer diagnose and fix? I'm not sure who else in Denver I can take this to. Open to recommendations but I am very short on available time to run around.

guessing, transfer case acuator replacement? Or could be something as simple as a broken or chewed wire. I am not much help, hope you get it sorted out and others here have seen this I am sure and will chime in.

brought the truck home. when i picked it up from the dealer, it was giving the 'brake controller failure' message. service guy didn't even mention it when he jumped out of the truck after pulling it up. :annoyed:

unhooked the battery and let it sit over night. reconnected this morning, it's still giving the message. i will be checking abs sensors later this afternoon when i rotate tires. after that... :notsure:

should be a fun drive to aspen tomorrow.

finally, someone figured this out and it wasn't stevinson. service techs at groove are my new friends. at least for my last few weeks in denver.

'brake controller failure' message was cured with a brake system recalibration. all other issues are caused by a 4WD ECU failure. ECU needs replaced. not sure what caused the failure and it isn't a cheap part but... shit happens and it's the only major service issue the truck has had in 40k miles of ownership. figure those are pretty good odds.

odd to replace the ECU that early on. Wonder if all the electrical upgrades you did might have to do with it.
Will it be covered under warranty ?

no idea but i'll ask when i pick it up. special order part so it's going to take a day or two.

as for the electrical, i didn't do anything out of the ordinary. i had some guys at a recommended 4wd shop look at it and they said it all looked good.

    truck is out of warranty.
