Bilstein 5100 alternatives?

Yeah, I was pretty sad I wasn't in a geographically opportune area to get the free OME kit last week

I would've thrown some C-notes at that if they were willing to ship.

 

Found in stock here. Messaged their support to verify actual stock and they said it was correct. Ordered a set myself and I guess we'll see. It said over 30 available this morning now only 22 available. Better hop on it anyone that wants them.

Any other shock available if you just want to front lift to even put the truck?

You could use bilstein 4600's and OME coils.

 

I had a 2003 4Runner that was lifted with Bilstein 4600 and OME Coils. It was actually really comfortable on/off road as compared to a set of 5100 set at the level height with the factory TRD coils. I believe the 4600 with a set of OME is the best option since you are not compressing the shock allowing more suspension travel with the coils.

 

Happen to remember more details on said coils, perhaps?

 

Managed to get the fronts from BilsteinLifts and the rears from Amazon, haven't driven it much yet just the ride back from the shop but it sits better and wasn't bouncing me all over the place like the old shocks

 

And now it's broken.... apparently this much slate is too much slate....any chance I can save the brand new rear shock that's dangling?

 

Wow!!! I didn't even know that was possible. I wonder if you can weld that back on now.

I'm guessing you can run without it until that mount gets fixed.

 

Not sure it's something I'd trust a weld on, but ya I'll avoid putting anything in the bed and maybe bungee it out of the way for now.

Just unbolt the top of shock and remove, its same amount of work and will keep from damage.

Id replace the plates on both sides after seeing the rust/ damage on this side.

The frame is actually really solid, it's just everything around it that's been a nightmare. Already have an email into the shop asking when I can have them replace whatever you call those mounts.

 

Frame kinda looks like it's been replaced at some point.

Depending how bad the rust around it is, it could be a totally acceptable repair. . I did the same thing on my CJ7 from running really stiff shocks and bombing it over the whoops.
V’d it out, and welded it back together with an extra gusset. She held up fine until I replaced the entire suspension a few years later.

 

Appreciate that, wouldn't trust myself welding it so we'll see what the shop says but any idea what to call that part that broke? Searched lower shock mount and not finding anything at all

Not sure how available it’ll be for a first gen. Might have to check eBay for a used one if you end up replacing it.

 

Well I've a bit of an update....used some Velcro zip tie type things to hold it against the e brake cable so I could drive it without the shock wangling all over the place. Got it to my parent's where I was supposed to help my dad pull a motor out of a 48 Ford pickup (that was fun...hello rusty oddly sized and threaded bolts everywhere) and surprised him with asking him to weld up the busted shit. (He's a retired autobody mechanic after 40+ years). So we got it jacked up and welded back into place. It's not pretty but it'll hold and it was the best we could do without a lift. He was also annoyed at my cloudy headlights (was planning to just replace them, didn't think they were save-able) so he grabbed a buffer and some like 15+ year old compound (shit was all separated and nasty...but it worked) and now the headlights look better than the rest of the truck...

Next time it's in the shop I'll probably ask them to clean it up and I've got a guy who's local-ish (VT from CT) who rebuilds the rear axles that I'll probably pick one up from since my rear end is only being held together with epoxy at this point anyway and replace it all. But for now it'll do.

Be good to spray some plastic safe clear coat over those headlights or they'll be cloudy in no time.

 

was planning to hit them with some clear coat but hadn't thought it'd need to be plastic specific. Have some leftover from the wheels I just sprayed that I figured I'd use, but guess I'll find something else. Also setting up to rain for about a week here and it won't be getting driven much it at all so they should be good to wait.

 

Well just see if the bottle says safe for plastics. It's not necessarily a specific kind I don't believe.

 

I think Shock Surplus was one of the vendors I ordered from and after a couple of months just cancelled. They were just in turn ordering them from Billy and had no idea when they might ship.
