1st Gen Tundra 2004, occasionally when I start my truck to warm up........
I go back to get in and the door is locked, (with motor running) and the key fob does not work when engine is running, has happened 3 times, luckily always at home, since that's usually the only time I leave running to warm up, any one else had this problem? any advice?? I bought it used, maybe the previous owners ghost is a prankster,
    Thanks, Doug

Yea. I havent figured out why, and it doesnt matter which key fob im using, sometimes it locks itself, sometimes it doesnt. I have a door key wrapped and strapped to the chassis, but i got caught locked out with it running. Luckily ive got some long windshield wiper spring, and was able to jimmy through the top corner of the door without hurting the seal, and press the window down button.

i have a manual gate, so my truck is running while i get out to open/close the gate, as an extra safety, my rear slide window latch doesnt latch. I glued in a piece of plastic, so it’ll still close, but i can open it from the outside in an emergency. But im not in the city, and im not scared to cripple a thief.

mine at least beeps at me to know that it has locked itself, but it seems to be randomly activated.

First and foremost, look under the dash to see if you have one of the dealer add-on KARR security systems. It was almost entirely redundant to the factory security system, and was really prevalent for those who bought in the southwest US apparently, whether you wanted it or not. It had extra features like key detection, extra alerts, some extra window and locking features. Normally you'll see the block box brain stuffed with a bundle of wires near driver kick panel, possibly a blue 'shock sensor' box attached to or around the steering column, or both hanging out under the driver side of dash. They'll clearly have KARR embossed on the box. It's garbage and causes massive issues.

If that's not the case (no KARR), and you DO have the security panel on your dash left of the steering wheel, you can reprogram the way the system locks. See here for details on that.

If you DO have the KARR system, I recommend you find someone to unfugger the system by correctly removing it. They were often hackishly installed. You can usually stop any stupidity it's causing by unhooking the black box brain from its harness connector, the only concern is whether the starter kill is wired in a way that prevents it from starting with brain removed. If so, reinstall and address that one wiring issue, then pull again.

I dont have the karr, i dont think. The tundra has the whatever3000 and the sequoia has the whatever3200. Both vehicles randomly lock themselves. Ive lost all trust in electric locks. Any time i drive anything with electric locks, the keys get set on the driver side wiper blade.
Every time mom leaves the ‘key’ in her qx80 im like ‘what are you doing!?’ Dont trust none of em. I <3 my titan partially because manual locks, manual windows.

I reprogrammed mine to lock the doors when I shift into gear while engine is running. But I recall seeing an auto-arm delay also. I'm too lazy to look right now, it may only be for when you depart the truck after turning off the ignition. I really don't recall, but there was some sorta delay function on the factory, and I used the PDF to do the programming on my '06. I think the auto-arm is maybe "passive" arming?
