What have you done to your 2nd gen Tundra today?

Black with black thread. Almost custom ordered black with blue thread but didn’t want to wait. I could have gone to a local shop and gotten blue thread probably but decided that was too much effort. Figured the thread would get dirty over time and look crappy so black seemed to be a better idea

 

Old girl rolled 100,000 today. Wife asked me if it was time for a new truck.. I Said only if I can keep this one too

Think I have to do the red thread since I just installed a silver and black TRD shift knob which has red thread as well.

Sounds like I'll have to rethink the black and bronze motif for an eventual "too much" build. Would not look good with the red accents.

 

Little slow to the game but still in it. Installed a 42 inch light bar behind the bumper for that hidden look. After a couple cuss words, several small cuts around my hands, multiple drilling and zip tying and adjusting the work came out solid. Unfortunately my camera could not handle that amount of light directly but is been a good day

 

Nice job! How's the light output? Did you attach it directly to the bumper support bar?

 

Just waiting on tie rod ends and super bumps.

 

The light output is great at a distance of maybe 20 feet it’s blinding after that it starts to regulate a bit. I also have the VLED headlights and SS3 sport fog lights so it definitely gets a little lost in the mix but I can see its effect because the light pattern gets much wider. I tested the bar yesterday thru the Santa Cruz hills it was a little foggy/misty and it definitely helped out

The mounting brackets provided did not work for me at all. I wanted to attach them to the crash bar but it lifted the bar up about an inch so no light was getting out the bumper would cover it up. I would suggest a curved bar since I found out the crash bar is not straight so mounting a straight bar to a curved support bar was a pain. Which is why I ended up using zip ties on one side and a modified position of the mounting bracket on the other. I had my doubts on how well that would hold up and I got my answer yesterday after doing some overlanding at the Old Coast Rd by Big Sur and some overlanding at Hollister hills. It took all those bumps and stayed in place

 

So while not all today, but pretty much all within the past month. Alpharex red taillights, Morimoto XB headlights, Amazon LED fog lights (Morimoto got enough of my money with the headlights), grill from Alibaba with Rube207’s 3D printed insert, RW color matched grill surround, and a custom dual exhaust setup from a local shop. Very happy with the way the outside is looking, just need those chrome bumpers wrapped or painted black next.

Interesting that your Morimotos have amber reflectors while mine are clear with a hint of amber (maybe from the amber LED marker behind.?)

Do they have different options for reflectors? I dont remember running across these options while shopping.

 

That is strange, I didn’t notice before, but no, there aren’t different options and the photos on the site look like yours with the clear corners. I wonder if the amber is a design change that they made on newer runs of them

No, just went with the classic all white ones, I like the change from the white to amber when turning but did snap a picture of how they would have looked with all amber, I wish they would have made a way to switch it back and forth between the two if you wanted to change

Thanks, a few other things not listed were blacked out emblems, color matched door handle covers, and I had those wheels painted flat black. Running boards are next but while taking the old ones off I snapped about 10 cheaply made bolts off so now I need to drill them out and put in helicoils before install

 

Agreed. I have the white/amber switchbacks as well. Seems like they could have easily allowed for a white or amber DRL option on the single platform.

Guess then they wouldn't be able to charge extra for the Amber only.

 

Agreed also…I have the alphas with white/amber at startup. A switch for either or would have been nice.

Installed my rock lights in the wheel wells today.

looks much brighter in photo, but still very please with the Amazon kit I got.

 

Put mine back under insurance coverage so I can drive it again

 

Installed my Bilstiein 5100 front coil overs that I accidentally bought. I just wanted to see what shipping and tax would be. Looked like the site was asking me to go to the next page to see. When I clicked the prompt I purchased the shocks. D’oh!

Anyway, it wasn’t all today. Started Friday and finished this morning. There were some interruptions in between. I set them on the middle notch and installed a Coachbuilder shim to compensate for driver side lean. Now my truck sits level.

when I climbed in the truck for the first time after finishing, I stumbled on the tube step because I wasn’t used to the new ride height. It is definitely 2-ish inches higher. Truck sits level now and rides so much nicer.
Only hiccup involved the sway bar. The passenger side link went back crooked. I had to loosen the sway bar mounting bolts to get some adjustment and one of the bushing bolts snapped the captured nut inside the frame. So there’s that. I got it all back together and will probably tack weld the bracket in place. I don’t want to make a big project out of that right now.

Anyway, way more involved than any other vehicle I’ve ever installed shocks on.

 

What type of camera did you connect to the head unit and where did you mount it?

 

Any new updates to it?

 

washed and waxed. Also took off the wiper arms and painted them since they were faded. They don’t look fantastic in this light but absolutely better than before.



We’ll see how it looks in the morning.

I have cases of raptor liner and quicksand tint ready for it. We moved last year from my last place that had a mint workshop and home paint booth. My current house has an attached garage which is more of a dog and cat house rather than a beer bottle smashing metal grinding chemical huffing hell hole of fun

 

Our trucks max out at 120 or at least my 07 does. Is there any way to increase that limit? Serious question no joke

 

Yes there is. The trucks are have an electronic speed limiter for you safety. A tuner is your answer. I will not participate in a debate as to the prudence of defeating the speed limiter.

 

Bummer. I hit 115 on @ Bonneville. Shoulda pushed for the last 5.

I’ve pushed it to 120 of course at a safe area but as soon as I hit the limit it went limp misfire I think had a check engine like but she picked up nicely. I hate how it feels like it’s got so much more potential yet her limit is 120 seems way off

 

The tires that are typically on trucks such as these aren't made to endure speeds greater than that. Many times, not much more than about 112mph. The handling gets super sketchy too.
