    Hey everyone,

For my next upgrade ive been wanting to replace my stock exhaust for a TRD or a DDI BA. Now before anyone says check out the forum, I have lol There's ALOT of good information on here but Damn! Im more lost now than i was before after reading hundreds of threads. I originally wanted the TRD because man!! i love that sound and wanted to keep it oem also test drove a tundra with that exhaust didnt noticed the helicopter/drone sound people say they hear but for that retail price im unsure if i want to spend that much. So then i began reading up on the DDI BA system liked what a read contacted Keith he suggested 10 or 12 for my needs.

After figuring out the total for the DD BA its basically around the same price as the trd. Also im a little hesitant on cutting a hole on my pipe for the resonator, i know the videos online dont give the sound any justice, so its hard to select one since ive never owned or heard a BA in person. Some folks here say the 12 is loud, 10 is quiet and vise versa. Read some claims 10 is a equivalent to the trd and 12 is louder than trd on outside but inside its between stock and trd.

My goal is to either go with the trd despite what people say about the drone/helicopter sound and loss of torque. Go with a DDI BA that is maybe 12 for me i dont tow or haul anything. I want something quiet but i can hear that V8 when i get on it. Had flowmasters 10/40s on my past vehicles tired of the loudness on them. Hope this makes sense to the readers.

Just wanted to ask on your experiences and opinions before I make a selection, thanks.

I have the 12” with the resonator installed. It has a great rumble, no drone at cruising speeds. Zero complaints from passengers inside.

But when I’m alone and open the windows, it screams when you get on it.

I’ve had TRD, 8 and 12 inch BAM. My main reason for ditching the TRD was the helicopter sound. If you’ve driven the TRD and like it, there’s nothing wrong with sticking with a product you know, which is also factory.

Of the three, the 12 inch BAM was my favorite. I understand your apprehension about the resonator install, but it’s not that bad. Just take your time or take it to an exhaust shop - if you decide to go that route.

Below is a thread I started with video of the 12 inch system.

I would suggest the DD system, actual performance boost and will cost less vs TRD. The 10 in about the same sound level inside as trd, little quieter esp w resonator. Sound outside is a bit louder than the TRD. Dont sweat the hole for resonator, super easy to do and if you ever want to remove resonator, DD sells the block off plate. No concern needed about any of that.

Go with the stainless standard system. I have the 10, nice sound but not going to be too loud or bother neighbors. With DD, the smaller the muffler, louder it is. 12 will be quieter than 10. So 10 or 12 could work, I would call Keith at DD and discuss your needs, he will set you up based on your wants and needs.

After test driving a truck with the TRD I wanted a little more, called Keith at DD and he said the 8" would be what I wanted. I love it and didn't do the resonator, there is some drone but my Trail Grapplers are louder in the cab than the exhaust at highway speed so I don't notice it enough for it to matter. Bolted the system up in my driveway in about 45 minutes.

@dirtydeeds 100%. Call Keith he will get you set up with exactly what you’re looking for sound wise and save you some $$ over the TRD

I've had an 8 and now have a 10 both with the rez.

    Best part about buying a @dirtydeeds system;
If you don't like the sound, want it louder or quieter, he will swap it out.
You paying shipping fees of course, I did it.

If you buy a TRD exhaust, you have a TRD exhaust.
    Hope you like it..

    Dirtydeeds;
If you want it with a little rasp when you jump on it, get an 8.
If you want it a little loud, but not too loud, get a 10.
If the 10 sounds it's like what you want, but you tow, get a 12.

If you want to be one of the cool kids, ditch the bolt on tip for a welded on tip..

The rez install isn't that big of a deal.
    I've done it, twice..:D

BAM. Keith is standup, and the resonator is honestly super simple. If you have put a nail through drywall, it's the same thing except with an expensive exhaust and a drill. It's almost impossible to mess up, just install the exhaust first to make sure the resonator is going to fit under the truck where you're planning on cutting

Yea my fathers 06 tundra has a flow 40 its pretty quiet at about 65 70. On city driving you hear more to the tire sound and on highway theres more wind noise. But hes had it for years so idk maybe the exhaust is worn out or its because of the 4.7

Part of the reason I went from an 8 to a 10.
There were times a few years ago I was going into work at 4 or 5 AM.
You can creep into the neighborhood, but you can't hide that startup burp..

No one ever complained, but I felt it was the right thing to do...

I had a 66 Nova small block with 40s and a 71 Chevelle big block with 50s. New cars will never sound like that.

My cool kids days are long over too, at 59.

    8,10,12,14 BAM......

Length doesn't really depend on towing, it depends on how loud you want it.
    Also longer muffler, less drone.
Although Keith recommends if you tow, you'd probably at a minimum a 10.
My 8 drone wasn't bad with the rez, but the 10 does have less.

The 10 with the rez has less drone than the stock muffler did..

    I tow don't anything, I love my 10.
As perfect as the 10 is for me now, when I buy another Tundra in 5 or 6 years, I'll probably go for 12 if Keith is still making them.

If you're hauling wife and kids around in your truck, I'd do a minimum of a 10.
My wife never complained about my 8, and our kids are long gone.
But I'm happier with the 10 over the 8.
The 8 was just a tad too much for me..YMMV

Hi Angel, I'll complicate matters even more with this! I just traded back my 10" system to Keith for his 14." Cost me $ 220.00 total and I'm as happy as a dog in dirt with it!:D The 10" was getting a little intrusive puling hills towing our boat for 450 miles. Haven't towed yet with the 14" but I can tell it's 'tamer' with no "raspy bark" at cold start and probably 20-25% quieter at full throttle. One thing for certain, you WON'T confuse it for a stock system at idle, cruising or high rpm. You also won't be getting the service before and after the sale, like you will with Keith and Shawna, when buying any 'off the shelf' system, including the TRD.
