you dont have to worry about that, IMO.

Not too many people are going to buy that thing at over 80K and acutally tow with it.

I mean your in fully loaded HD pricing there, WTF would you buy that instead of a 3/4 or 1 ton fully loaded.

I wouldn't think Toyota would be in a hell of a hurry to jump on that. I mean, it took them a good decade or so to jump on the TTV6 trend, and given their commitment to safety, and the fact that hands-free driving is inherently...not all that safe (lol), I'd think they'd say forget it to that idea. I hope, anyways.

I'll be honest, I think it's going to end up saving lives, especially when vehicle to vehicle communication becomes a thing. When I use lane keep assist and radar cruise control, I think it takes a good deal of load off me as the driver. I get less fatigued, stay more awake. I wont use it in congested areas or rush hour, but if I'm on a road trip or it's late at night, I absolutely use it. I agree at the very least, Toyota should do Semi Autonomous at some point...

Am I crazy about the idea of someone using it on a trailer? I'd prefer someone who's experienced driving a trailer, who had a good nights sleep, isn't on a deadline and just drank a cup of coffee, but my experience has been that's not always who's driving trailers. A lot of time it's someone who's pushing themselves too hard, on a deadline, rushing to get somewhere, distracted, etc., ...or it's the weekend warrior who does it twice a year. If it helps them stay in their own lane and stay out of mine, I'm all for it.

Most accidents are caused by human error. Removing the humans will reduce accidents.

What an ignorant question. It's not like they are sacrificing human bodies to achieve automated driving. The cost will never be greater than saving lives.

Don't forget the tech is made by the same humans that cause the accidents. That and a self driving car plowed into a bicyclist at full speed a year or two ago.

I drive with my headlights on all the time and I don't trust that my car is smart enough to turn them off when it's parked so I don't ever use the auto mode.

I was thinking about this more and I think they didn't want to pull a GM.

The minor overlap crash test came out in about 2014, I think? (I'm sure someone will correct me.) Pretty much every vehicle did poorly on it when it came out. Then GM redesigned the Sierra/Silverado for 2019 and the new one still did poorly on it! So I think Toyota is doing whatever they need to to do well on that test.

It's not really though, it's just AI software learning. Now tell me how many cyclists were injured or killed by a human driving a vehicle last year? Spoiler: it's a lot more than one.

I can't believe we're having this argument. You are really arguing that 100 people dead by humans is better than 5 people dead by AI.

Listen, I'm agreeing with you. It's worth it. I just didn't want to make a post where I said it was ok that 5 people died because I think it makes me sound like I'm a war criminal or something.

I'm willing to say that. If a technology can save lives then I think there is no reason for us to not use it. There is nothing in this world that costs more than life itself. I would rather myself (and anyone else) have a .001% at being killed from AI today than a .01% at being killed by a human today.

I don't know why Toyota would post that video on their website. They are basically saying, he we are going to take this truck that Toyota says is a high speed off-road truck and change everything on it so that it will perform as a high speed off-road truck. I know being a baja chase truck requires a lot more than what a stock Pro is capable of, but to me it's just not a good look to say our truck is completely inadequate for what we claim it is designed for.

I disagree. They do these series all the time where they custom build a truck just for the heck of it.. There's a Tacoma one going on right now too. If anything I think it just shows the customization capability of the truck.

I’ve worked for the company. Toyota really is all about safety regardless of cost. I’ve done recall work that has the cost the company millions with a very low chance of injure to the customer. Sure, they could have taken the GM principle and pay off the injures and death then impose a gag order but that’s just not the case with Toyota.

I know they do this type of stuff and Toyota is big on people modifying their trucks. It just would have made a lot more sense to me if they would've taken a non Pro and modify it. The Pro is designed to be a high speed off-roader, but in this video they say we are going to change out the coilovers and tires... To me it just says the Pro is a phoney and if you want a real off-road truck, you will need to do a lot of modifications on it. If they would've taken an SR5 or Limited etc and done this, I wouldn't think anything of it.

Maybe they are just using it to mock up, but the truck in the video is a new Pro.

I haven't watched the video, and I'm not trying to argue at all, but the description below the video from Toyota states the following.

"We are going all out for the 2021 SEMA Show! In this story, you'll see us convert a 2022 Tundra TRD Sport into a PreRunner chase truck that combines toughness, durability and comfort for unforgettable off-roading experiences."

I'm probably in the minority, but the new Tundra looks way better inside and out than the new Sahara, plus you get a 5-link rear suspension over the leafs. The 2022 Tundra is still on the top of my list for now, just needs the lift
