Chip for improved gas mileage?

Hi ! I wonder what kind of chip do you pu in your tundra 2nd gen.

I would like to add an high quality chip that can lower my gas consumation. I don't know if that exist

Nothing that will really make a difference. If you want to save gas, the only thing that will really help you is to slow down. Driving 60-65mph compared to 70-75mph will save you way more gas than any chip. Simple physics, it takes a certain amount of fuel to produce enough power to push you through the air at a given speed. There's not much that a chip can really do in order to save you gas.

 

No chips worthwhile, but you can get a tuner like bullydog (there are others available). Could pick up some HP with the tune. Gas mileage is not going to change much. If you are concerned about gas mileage a Tundra may not be for you. Best you can do is drive smoothly, keep the suspension and tires stock for best MPG, but these trucks are rated 13/17 so dont expect any real improvement in MPG.

 

Don't put giant tires on, a lift, bunch of weight, in short nothing fun. Just accept it and buy a 4cyl DD and enjoy the truck.

 

First - what kind of MPG are you seeking and what are you seeing presently?

Pedal Commander changes the response and CAN slightly increase - but first need to know a starting point.

Find a well paid hard working woman and treat her well. Take her visa and a couple of gas cans when you go fill up her car(actually your truck). Gas cans for her car. You know because you are a true gentleman, and she deserves to sleep in on Sunday after a busy night in the sack. Love me a 38gal. tank and a hard working well paid woman!

 

Just drive it and enjoy the most reliable truck on the market and don't pay attention to the gas mileage.


Actually surprised how many people buy this truck and then complain about the gas mileage. Did they not research it before the purchase.

I knew the mileage was bad but didnt care and even added the TRD supercharger on top of it which now forces me to use Premium fuel only. I get smiles per gallon now.

 

I did no research on gas mileage before I bought my Tundra. I did research on reliability, interior room, Double Cab vs Crew Max, and pricing among others. But not on mileage. My previous pickup boasted excellent mileage. It was small, cramped, had the "get up and go" of a turtle overdosing on sleeping pills, and was a maintenance nightmare. The Tundra has plenty of Umph under the hood, rides well, drives great, and gives me no trouble. A little extra gas now and then is a small price to pay.

 

I'm averaging 9/10 mpg. My lifted F250 turbo diesel averages 15. I'm not sure what will work.
