What have you done to your 2.5 gen Tundra today?

Any idea how long you'll be without it?

 

Not happy about the trade. The only bright side I can find is my commute is currently 100+ miles daily and this will sip gas the whole time as opposed to my other vehicles. I have no idea how long it's going to take yet but I already did not get off on the right foot with the collision repair shop. "We can't order parts for a different tundra and put them on yours" meaning my color matched trd pro grille will be replaced with the chrome 1794 grille which I expressed will not be ok. They are going to disassemble tomorrow or Monday and call me with details. I already gave them links to my miromoto headlights and Baja Designs fog lights and those WILL be replaced with the same. If they try and go oem on those I will lose my mind.

 

I’d say bullshit on that. They can replace what’s there. Doesn’t matter if you had OEM or not.

I agree with Jake. No reason they can't replace what you currently have.

 

They said it was an issue with the insurance and the insurance may just pay me the value of the original grille and leave me to buy the one I want. My rebuttal is this is an accident that I was found 0% at fault for and I don't care if I had Ferrari wheels bolted on it, you're going to put my truck back to exactly how it was before the accident.

Get it to a different shop.
They can put on what you ask them to put on.
If you want an aftermarket bumper, so be it.

 

Agreed, I think they have some of the best slaps I've ever seen.

 

Your not going to like this but they will only replace whats insured. The fine letter specifies whats covered under the policy. Any upgrade that you want overage on must be notified and accepted for them to adjust the coverage and of course the annual premium. Different scenario is if the upgrade is insured and still they want to go OEM.
Any upgrade to the truck must be notified and accepted by the company in order to be covered in a claim. Maybe try calling them and negotiate something outside the standard. Sorry but thats how it works.

 

Thing is, progressive said they would make it how it currently sits. I went over all this with the guy handling my claim and explained all the aftermarket stuff on the front and he said don't worry about it. I feel like progressive is willing to do it if the company is willing to ask. Me not being in the middle there could be the deciding factor.

Wanted to stay with someone on progressives preferred shops and the shop I like that's on that list is booked until late November. If this place won't do what I want I know the other place will. I've gone to them before with a similar situation and they actually called me and said hey this part for your car is $xxx.xx and if you went aftermarket it would cost significantly less and this part isn't even seen on the outside of the vehicle. They don't care because insurance just cuts them a check and they just have to put it back together

 

This varies between providers and state.
I’ve had more than one vehicle repaired back to the way I had it.
Aftermarket parts and all.
Most none OEM parts are less expensive.
My adjusters were always happy about that.

You can’t give them the oem part numbers for color matched parts? That’s bullshit

 

That might work out favorable for you depending on cost for the part…if not, tell them they can either pay extra to paint and color match (which would be significantly higher cost) or you’d “settle” for just using the OEM color matched grill from a Pro or TRD Sport seeing that the 1794 was the most expensive model tundra in 2017

years back when my wrx got totaled a week after putting new wheels on, the value of the stock OEM wheels was actually greater on the payout than the ones I put on…which made no sense as the stock OEM wheels were a dime a dozen as take-offs versus what I paid for my aftermarket wheels. Had to do with list pricing…different than what market pricing was

did my first oil and filter change since buying the truck in July

the idiot who did the oil and filter change before me had this metal piece on so tight I could not separate it

when I tried to remove it, it would not spin freely so the whole oil filter assembly came with it

so I did everything correctly except replace the small o ring

checked this morning after my drive to work and there are no leaks

 

Just FYI - my new 2020 had the metal piece on so tight the whole thing moved as well.

 

I had the same problem on my truck, I used force to take the metal piece off and it broke in half. I figured drop by Toyota dealership they will have a replacement. Nope special order 2 weeks delivery. I used duct tape to keep it from dripping oil until the part came in. Now I have a spare in case it happens again. Its cheap aluminum that should not be over tighten. Its a dumb system if you ask me.
