Benefits to modified exhaust??

The point of vvti is to hold both the intake and exhaust valves open at the same time for a split second. As long as the exhaust is headed out the 'siphoning' or scavenging will help volumetric efficieny. But if the exhaust pulses revert they will actually go back thru the exhaust valve of the next firing cylinder and push its intake charge back up into the intake manifold.

Then the solinoidinal exambucanator spits out reversion pulses of kryptonite over the spainastic overutemum causing a loss of power.

So... I do have a question.... I have a TRD dual and I want to change the tips and re bend the pipes... can that be done?

I personally rather tips coming from the side, versus straight back. Only the dodge has the better straight back tips because of the oval cut beneath the bumper.

You are correct sound only and maybe looks...So benefit? None, no benefit, zero, zilch, notta, nothing, just a louder exhaust and if you are real lucky NO drone. A drone on a long road trip is no fun. I have not seen a dyno test yet that increased HP. If they increased hp everyone would have a new and improved exhaust. FWIW...

Are you just looking to replace the tips? or do you want to change where they exit too? It might be cheaper to replace the entire cat-back with something that has a side exit or under the bed dump vs. customizing the tail pipes. There's not a lot of room under the bed (considering how the TRD dual tails wrap around the spare tire) so changing and re-bending the tailpipes could be pretty costly.

Not to shoot you down because I have zero experience or knowledge but @dirtydeeds does not agree with your statement. According to Keith there is science to the increase of power, it just has to be done RIGHT...which is out of my league to explain.

 

It's not exactly a cheap mod to upgrade the exhaust in an efficient an optimal manner. A supercharger yields the most hp for an aftermarket bolt on for our trucks yet you don't see everyone putting one on. I would bet that more people have exhaust mods than people with SCs and they aren't just looking for better sound. It's all preference.

You can easily remove, from mufflers back, and install a new system (TRD dual in my case) in well under an hour. It was 20-30 min for me. Keith is a great source of info and parts, beyond just mufflers IMO.

No that's cool, over the years I just have not read any info that a tuned exhaust creates more hp. If there is, learning is a plus

 

best way to put it: if working with the factory exhaust manifolds, you want to simply replace the stock muffler for something that is not restrictive, but keep tubing dimensions same as stock.

If working with JBA long tube headers give me a call and I'll engineer a system for you that will gain 49hp and 89tq to the rear wheels.

jba headers shouldn't void the new car warranty unless they are the direct cause of a failure.

the numbers posted are gained with or without a tune. The tune for long tubes doesnt' really make a lot of power, just makes the existing power more usable.
