You characterized them as disliking the new Tundra for the solitary reason of not having a rumbling v8 when every single one of those guys making those comments have other reasons as well that we both agree are legitimate. Maybe that wasn’t your intention with the “v8 go rmmm rmmm” comment, but that’s how it came across.

I’m excited for Toyota with the new Tundra. I think it will earn them some more sales, as there seem to be loads and loads of people who were staying away solely due to the 5.7’s poor fuel economy. As for me though: at this point, I’m more excited to put 300k+ miles on my dinosaur of a new 2nd gen. :headbang:

I know the wheelbase on the 2019+ GMs is about 2-3" longer than the previous model but I'm not sure about the overall length.

100% agree but the 2.7 and 3.5tt are definitely different when it comes to power ratings. The 3.5tt will have alot less stress compared to Ford 2.7 eco boost. My guess would be the 3.5tt will get about the same or slightly better than the outgoing 5.7 because you have a 10 speed and 3.31 gear ratio which is good for mpg. I do agree the low end torque of this truck is insane and that will keep the truck happy when going uphills without shifting and going to 4,000rpms like the 5.7 does. If you watch the 3.5 eco boost on TFL towing it's tows alot better than the 5.0 or any V8. It will be definitely interesting when this truck comes out at the end of the year..

its an option but not one I really wanted to do for several reasons.

I just never thought I wouldn't be able to keep buying tundras so Im trying to recalibrate things here.

any of you guys carpenters, lol?

cut out a notch the size of the front of the truck size, install a header to move the weight around the opening and then drywall the small opening on both sides? all I need is the size of the 2x4s and drywall on each side and it would fit. damn :(

    :stirthepot: Fact:
2nd gen axles with 5-lug hubs are rated at 4000lb front and 4150lb rear.
3rd gen axles with 6-lug hubs are rated at 3945lb front and 3670lb rear, for a loss of 55lb front and 480lb (!!!) rear. Yet the new 3rd gen truck doesn't weigh that much less (the 3rd gen 6.5' bed 1794CM weighs 6060lbs according to its door jamb stickers). There is just far less room between GVWR and GAWR in the new 3rd gen than in the 2nd gen. This too appears to not be a step forward for me.

Opinion: the one that never was, the one many of us are thinking "I wish it could have been", the unicorn we'll never know–a 2nd gen with the following changes ONLY: 5.7L/10speed and an aluminum body/composite bed. To me, this would have been the ultimate Tundra. My truck, keeping the same GVWR and GAWR, but weighing substantially less with a Toyota 10-speed. Too bad we'll never realize the glory of such a truck...:bananadead:

Yeah, I've heard several times that the v8's often get better gas mileage than the TT when under load. I know there are a small number of people that only use their trucks for towing or have a trailer hooked up 90% of the time for work etc, but for the vast majority of us, towing mpgs aren't that big of a deal and we are more concerned with everyday mileage which is why the ttv6's are becoming more popular. Most people are using their trucks as daily drivers and then towing on the weekends or rarely if ever. So the day to day unloaded mileage is way more important to 90% of the buyers than the towing mileage. I will give up 1 or 2 mpgs towing if I gain 5mpgs unloaded. MPG's still aren't going to make me buy a new truck, but towing mpgs are not going to effect my decision when I do buy one.

My buddy almost did this exact thing at his old house. He had a Ram and needed about 2 inches in order to get it to fit in his garage. We were going to take the drywall off and build a little header and take the 2x4's out where the bumper would fit into. They decided they were goin to build a new house before we got around to doing it.

So when I looked into it, Toyota Canada won't honor a extended warranty purchased in the USA. I looked into it because the extended warranties are 50% cheaper in the States on average. As for buying a US truck and bringing it over, I believe Toyota Canada will honor the base warranty but not an extended warranty.

Your best bet though would be to get in touch with Toyota Canada to verify.

    There is that.

I would personally buy a warranty on a '22 though, especially if it's a hybrid. All new design, new technology, unproven track record.

I’m sure in 5 years or less, I could get every option in a SR5

I would guess warranties usually pay for themselves special on a new model. I know my used Toyota warranty paid for its self.

    A bunch
It's for 2 reasons - crash test ratings and aerodynamics (better fuel efficiency). Toyota had to cave to those who only look at brochures for their truck purchases, and those 2 factors were the biggest complaints by those who don't dig into the research prior to their purchases.

hate to say it, but I did when it died and left me without it for a week when the fuel pump took a crap recently.

kinda funny, my ram never left me stranded and started every time, it was my tundra that didnt start.

Im glad I had the warranty though, it took toyota a week to fix it but they fixed it. now my loaner tacoma is another story, what a POS.

A version of it as I understand it. Not this exact motor and tuning though. The motor the put in the Tacoma last refresh was one they'd used for awhile as well, and it had some issues from the get go.

Thats why you have a standard warranty from Toyota so anything that happens within the year or so they can fix it but buying a extended warranty for a Toyota is like towing 2,000lbs in a 3/4 ton truck. Toyotas are just overbuilt from factory definitely the trucks

If I had a quarter for every comment I’ve seen (everywhere, not just here) where the only complaint was “V6 sounds like crap” I’d have a nice start on my down payment.

they can still have expensive problems, especially with all the electronics.

If Im able to find a way to squeeze this thing in my garage and wind of with a 60K platinum tundra or whatever, I will get the extended warranty for sure.

I don't believe the V6 sounds like crap ... it's more like the V8s sound sweet and anything else just doesn't measure up and is therefore a disappointment!

And this is how dealership gets rich.. they have been testing this truck over 6 years and the so called "electronics" you mentioned have been tested in Lexus for a very long time its just new in the tundra.. now new electronics would be the new gmc with the newer cluster and semi self driving. The new 14in screen is actually been tested in the heat in Texas or Nevada for a long time and the fact they put something similar in the all new Lexus RX that in itself says something.

For you guys that only have a few inches to spare in your garage, you will have trouble getting the truck that close to a wall.
I currently have a 2019 Avalon and it won't let me get closer than 5" to my wall in the garage. it applies the brake automatically with the safety sense. I have to creep super slow to get closer. Nice thing is it does have birds eye view so I know how close I am. I don't think all of the Tundra models have that option though.

    O boy, more good news.

if there a way to turn that off or how do you get it all the way up against the wall?
