What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Thinking of pulling the trigger on the ATS HD springs. I think that is a better choice than messing around with the Icon add-a-leaf pack and I'd like to get that extra 1-1.5" back that I think I've lost from stock. They seem like a good choice vs. Alcan/Deaver/Archive Garage, which look really nice too, but a bit outside the budget right now. I could also live with it as-is, and get the custom Alcan in ~6 months or so. So not sure the best plan here.

 

The Woman called and let me know that my 6 degree axle shims showed up today. I'm going to get those installed next week and pray that fixes my vibration issue.

Front end back from being reinstalled and is looking much better IMHO.

 

Went camping last weekend and tested out the new camp stove. Pretty impressed for $50!



Checked the truck today and I blew a hole in one of the cv boots. Thankfully I have another in the garage and will replace before this weekends trip.

 

Fixed the washer flex issue on the Tough Country bumper. Added two additional Grade 8 washers between the bolt and bumper mounting point. Felt much more confident in torquing it down.

 

Several of us here are running the ATS H-D's and to the best of my knowledge we're all satisfied with our purchase and their customer service is exceptional too.

I would stay away from an AAL since they're not really a long-term solution to worn-out springs and just throwing good money after bad. I would say consider what your wants and needs are and compare the features and benefits of the choices you have narrowed it down to. You state that you can live with what you currently have. If the Alcans meet your criteria then just wait the 6 months.

 

So what I'm hearing is that if I put in my order now, then they'll be here by the time it's warm.

I have that same oven, it's pretty neat! I like to take a cake tin and make a deep dish pizza in it.

Is that a CVJ high angle boot? Curious of age and how it failed.

 

Basically CVJ, they’re ORS boots. This one has 45k miles on it. The passenger failed around 30k I believe. This one had a finger size hole in one of the inner folds. No idea why it failed.

 

I'm just received my CVJ boots going to install this week. How old are your boots?

 

Thanks for reporting back. I have CVJs on right now, but just got some 930s to put on a couple CVs that have been sitting in the garage for a bit. Good little comparison whenever I actually end up using them.

I just swapped to Archive MD packs. Whole lotta lift on those. I'll report back when I get them better tuned.

 

The archives are what I’m looking at when I decide to go full mid travel.

I think elka and archive are winning for me. Mind you this will be a year or 3 before I upgrade again…. So far the icon AAL does all I want wonderfully

 

I liked that Eric gave me real measurements from top axle and some previous customer experience and pic of basically my truck with them installed. There was no mystery as to what I was getting into. I will be installing TC shackles and they are clearly made for some weight. But that's the reason, I plan on running with weight.

I called them yesterday. Talked to an actual human on the phone. I don't think they provide any lift, but will restore stock height. I know my springs have sagged prob 1-1.5". With the Alcans (and others), they can build them with custom amounts of lift. My 6 months comments was around living with my rear end squatting a bit since I got the front lift installed. The squat annoys me.

 

I took a couple quick pics of my cheapo fog lights. Hard to tell, but the cutoff is pretty nice. There is a little bit of bloom on the edge, but they really enhance the area from the bumper to about 30' -40' out. The mounting is not awesome and how well they will last is questionable. So far I'm happy and wondering how they'll last. I'll get more this weekend on a field or something.

Yea, no problem. I am tweaking a few things, but I have a good baseline and will see where its at now before I change shackles or adjust the front. I'm pretty sure it's about 2.5-3 over where I was with Fiberglass tonneau and bed mat. I also think I was .5 below stock. My recent bumper hitch mods are about break even at the moment as far as weight.

 

I think all of us who have installed them got 1.5 lift. I replaced old worn out leafs with the toytec aal and the overload and I got .5 lift over that.

 

Changing my oil this morning and fiddling around in the garage. Decided to pull the coils and check the torque on the plugs. Plugs were fine. I don't know why I go looking for problems, but I noticed some of my coils have hairline cracks. I've NEVER hd a misfire or a code thrown, but I'm sure I already know the answer...should I replace these? Are these cracks significant? Some of them are baaaaarely noticeable, almost like a manufacturing seam. Thx FGT hive mind
