Plan. We do some trout and steelhead fishing so that’s cool.

My Grandfather was a big fisherman and so was my father. I never liked eating fish (I could tolerate fish sticks) and always thought I had better things to do when I was younger so we didn't go out on the lakes that often. One of my regrets in life - we went up to Northern Michigan about 4 years ago to visit my parents and went fishing out on the lake with my dad. That's when I finally got it. It was less about fishing and more about just being on the lake and enjoying our time together. I did catch some sunfish, which was nice.

Since then, they have moved and he's been having some health problems but I'm thankful that my what was probably my last time on the lake with him (and not knowing it at the time) was so memorable.

 

I had my doubts. It’s more like tenderloin but that doesn’t rhyme.

 

It's the time together that makes it fun for sure.

My dad quit hunting for about 15 years. He's hunted last year and this year. Some friends are upset I haven't made camp with them, but they are understanding that I don't know how many years I'll get to hunt with my dad before he hangs it up again. Been fun hunting and bullshiting with him. Brings back all the memories we made when I was younger and he took me hunting. Roles have definitely been reversed now. I move faster and don't need the breaks like I did when I was younger. Wouldn't trade the time with him for anything though.

 

"The Tenderloin of the Celestial Sphere" is a little wordy but works nicely.

On the lake with a fly rod in hand was where me and dad bonded the most. We rarely get to fish together these days since we live so far apart now. Treasure every day I get with dad on the water. I couldn't care less if we catch anything, just the time spent together and the conversations we have are what's important.

No one in my immediate family hunts and we don't fish all that much but we get our bonding in around the fire when we're camping, usually over a bottle of whisky or case of beer.

 

I don't think the activity matters, just so long as together.
