I'm a big toyota fan but this tundra reveal has left me hanging and so far hasn't blown me away. Second choice of mine is this sierra so will be interesting to see what they do on the 21st

The undercarriage is not a problem, it was still in good shape when they towed it away. I use nh oil undercoating. I had it done professionally a few times when I first got the truck and touched it up myself over the years. After about 10 years it was very clear that the frame was going to outlast the body by about 10 to 1 so I stopped bothering to undercoat. Its the body that rots out and I don't know a product for that. Truck lives outside and I rinse it when not below zero but its covered with salt/brine the second you drive down the road in the winter.

I wish more tires were made in LT C in this size. Only found one brand in this size on tire rack (General grabber APT). Everything else...LR E. Good thing is these are very common sizing, so tires won't be an issue to find. I had that happen back in 2014 with my 275/70/18 tires on my CM Tundra. Only had one option to buy BFG KO2's. Kinda my fault though buying tires after hunting season started.

I saw that too. I am hoping its the 157 inch wheelbase (crewmax with 6.5 bed) that is driving that payload down 150-200 pounds. Twelve more inches of frame plus the extra length bed with the full size 4 door have got to weigh something extra.

Funny you guys keep talking quality but keep saying the spec sheets are wrong and it wouldn't be the first time. Not a good first impression for someone shopping the brand if Toyota on their own website can't even proofread a document that is going to be read by thousands of people after a highly anticipated launch. Hope different people wrote and approve the spec sheets than those who wrote and approve the build specs.

If it’s just to get you through till you can get a new Tundra why not look at a Ram 1500 Bighorn ?

I hope to do exactly that, order a stock SR5 Crewmax with no additional options. I assume I have to order one anyway as nothing is going to be just hanging around at a dealer anytime soon. Unless the spec sheet is wrong (again) the TRD Pro says payload is 1600 so I don't see how its possible for a stock SR5 to not be MORE than that when the top of the crewmax 4x4 range hits 1820. The heaviest part as you step up from the SR to SR5 is the hitch and thats on the TRD Pro too.

I saw the new Silverado at thebTexas State Fair. The interior dash is a big improvement and will be the same in the Sierra. The seats look different so hoping they did something about the park bench feel of the current seats. Slight changes to front fascia and everything else is the same.

I don’t know how anyone can’t sit in those seats. Then again I had a Yukon, Tahoe, and Traverse. My 21 Tundra ain’t all that but it’s better than those park benches.

That's why I think the sheet is wrong, or door stickers are wrong hopefully. As I posted above, a base-base-base cloth interior 8" screen non-sunroof SR5 CrewMax 6.5' 4x4 TRD is 1450lbs payload. According to sheet, should be ~1,700-1,800. I hope that is true and door stickers are wrong.

I do think the max payload of 1,940 is correct for 2wd SR DC, therefore it doesn't make sense a 4x4 CrewMax will be anywhere near 1,800

Toyota's roll out of info on this model is not polished at all, but must have been extra hard with the pandemic

Pandemic has disrupted quite a few things. The rolling out of this information in a smooth and consistent manner isn’t one of them.

Thanks for the that, it pretty cool and its cheap. I looked up locations and they are not in New England, looks like mostly Canada locations. One in Bangor but that is 300 miles away. Wonder if there is a similar product or service somewhere around here.

No way it's only 1450, the sticker is wrong. My 2014 SR5 CrewMax with the upgrade package is 1435. The 2022 is at least a couple hundred more.

Welcome to the site. Looks like you are doing the due-diligence research (which is smart in today's market). I remember the old iron Dodge gassers. Pretty tough trucks for the most part. Depending on what Tundra you plan on seriously considering, ensure that payload on the inside of the drivers door is what you need. Giving up that much payload if you truly needed it might put you in a bind later on. If the Tundra works, it will be a great truck for may years. You still have the option to purchase a 2021 if the payload is good. Talk about a reliable work horse of a truck with a lot of years of service to back it up.

I would look at the Ford 7.3L in the XLT trim package. I also would skip the 250 and go directly to the 350. My buddy purchased the F-350 Tremor with the 7.3L/10 speed and I am impressed. His payload is 3950 lbs and the truck rides great. For having 34.5" aggressive tires/lifted and driving in the Colorado mountains we got 16 mpg round trip over a week. It's a very nice truck.

    t.jpg

He towed a families TT in the mountains last week. 6K in trailer weight and I think the tote was 275 gallons. He did a hand calculated fuel economy at 11.7 mpg. Not bad in the CO mountains.

    trem.jpg

Some of our members have moved to the Ford HD market. @Patriot @Stroke250 @Backslider have not had any issues.

Some of the guys on here have moved on to a 2500/3500 GM as well with very good results so far. Some towing a lot of weight. @A-A-Ron @aggie_tundra @knoxville36 @NorthWoodsTundra @shawn.roe24. Out of these guys @shawn.roe24 probably tows the most and at max capacity more frequently.

Only one member that I know of that has gone Ram 2500 6.4L @Nightshade Tundra and hasn't had any problems.

Why am I telling you this? I have seen over these years people come from 3/4-1tons and drop down to a Tundra. Then a few months (years) later are going back due to not having what they actually need (I was one of those guys). If the Tundra fits all your needs this is a guarantee..you will not be disappointed.

Thanks for the advice and its good to hear others having success with the Ford HD as all you read about are the bad stories. That's at least 3 people who have recommended I try harder to find a 7.3 Ford to drive so I will do that. I will revisit the Ram too and weigh the options while I await pricing for the Tundra and confirmation of what a crewmax sr5 payload will actually be.

My buddy just had to order one. This way he didn’t get the markups and people selling a truck out from under him. @Backslider custom ordered his as well to avoid the price gouging.

I don’t want to steer you away from the Tundra, but 8k is a lot of weight….
I’ve never been in your state or the New England area, so not sure on the towing terrain.

I just got word from Mike Sweers that the New Hybrid Tundra is currently being tested for MPGs at the EPA. Testing started at noon today.

    @gunmetalgolfer

i have nothing but good things to say about my Chevy 2500 HD with 6.6 gas. It has a legit 3,650 pounds of payload and about 14k tow rating. It is pretty comparable in gas mileage to the Tundra. It rides pretty good for what it is.

I bought mine about a year ago and have 28k mikes on it with not a single problem. I went with LT and added all-star package, convenience II package, Z71 package, and leather upgrade. This gets it close to an LTZ trim Chevy. It has about the same features as my Platinum. No safety sense but better cameras, much better radio, heated steering wheel, Apple car play, etc.... This was right before it got real crazy, but MSRP of my truck was $55,800 and I paid $48k. About same price as an optioned out SR5 or if you find a deal on a Limited.

I don't think you are in diesel territory, but it does a great job pulling our Grand Design trailer and the capabilities are thee as you never know what toy I might buy in the future......

The gas 3/4 tons of today are extremely capable!
    1E69DCB7-B413-4B21-8480-332F6F197B22.jpg

I buy a ton of vehicles where I work. We buy mostly GMC's for our office staff. I will be switching it up a little and will probably also buy 2 Tundras in the spring time once it starts truely getting out to dealers.

LC300 delays are now expected to last at least 6-9 months, Toyota isn't expecting to ship any customer LC300's until mid-2022 due to extreme parts shortages (not just chips). They've only been able to make enough for dealer demos (that they aren't supposed to sell).

I have a bad feeling the Tundra is going to be delayed significantly.
