Trailer connection issues

I'm hoping someone here can help as always. I have a 16 trd pro 4x4 crewmax and a tandem 16ft trailer. The problem I'm having is when I hook up to the 7pin connection my 3.5 inch multi info screen reads as trailer connected. I push hazards and my lights blink on trailer. I then either step on foot brake or slide manual ibc and I get no trailer on the 3.5 screen. I then no longer have trailer brakes yet my lights on trailer continue to work. Does anyone know what is the issue? I've read and agree even when it did work the brake output sucks from the ibc even with gain on 10. It worked like the 1st time I tried it, then it would pop on and off as driving, now the second I put my foot on brake to shift from park the trailer loses connection. I still have lights, but it says no trailer on screen, the little green trailer light goes dark, and I don't have trailer brakes. I load up the trailer with firewood and pack the shit out of it so I need brakes. I wasn't impressed with the brake power when it did work the 1st couple times even with gain at 10, but at least it helped. Now it hooks up and makes connection to both settings electric and over hydraulic, but the second any brake is applied I lose the trailer connection and brakes but not lights, they work. Is there a problem with my trailer plug since it does have crack in plastic, or since the lights still work but I'm losing the trailer brakes and sensor that it's hooked up is there a problem with the integrated brake control? I'm guessing it's the ibc. At this point I'd love to even have the shitty stopping power that worked in the beginning or even the sporadic in and out connection. Lately past couple times I tried it made the connection fine and would stay connected for as long as I didn't step on brake to shift out of park. Soon as I did that it goes out and don't come back. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Should I take to dealer, is it known issue like weak brake power, ect.

 

I'm no expert on trailer plug wiring but it sounds to me like the brake wire on the trailer doesn't match up to the brake wire on the truck connector.

 

Your definitely having connection issues, probably the trailer not the truck. I would look at that cracked connector first. You could try trailer on a buddy's truck that would help figure out trailer or truck problem also

 

Yeah I thought of that as well. The part that has me thinking it's not the plug is A) the ibc has known issues and B) it worked fine the first couple times and has progressively got worse with same plug. Before the last two times it would cutoff when I hit brake but then would connect again driving down the road going in and out. The last 2 times the lights work fine before and after I hit brake. The problem I'm having and why I think it's truck related is because the trailer shows a connection once its plugged in. The second I apply pressure it shows it works, once I pick up my foot I get no trailer on screen and nothing pushing the brakes. I can get out truck unplu and plug back in

 

then it all happens the same way all over again. I've read people having issues with the ibc and many are using aftermarket ones with much better performance and luck. There are supposedly known issues with brakes not working with the inc, I just don't know if it's the same I'm having. Don t be surprised when they announce a recall on it. Unfortunately it might take a couple people getting killed from it for them to step up admit and fix problem. I just don't know if others are having the same issue as me. Mine is not only not applying enough pressure with gain turned up to 10, mine is losing connection all together except for the lights, they work fine even when it shows as if there's no trailer connection

 

I really don't think it's the plug. It may be but I'm leaning much more the other way.

I'm curious if anybody has or had same thing happen. If so, that would indicate more of truck issue than plug. A guy I work with today when I mentioned the problem I'm having said the same exact thing is happening on 1 of our brand new work trucks. I know it's a Ford dually, think F550. Says connected, hit brakes with foot or finger slide and it disconnects. Huh?

 

I read bunch of things about issues with ibc. However, I don't remember reading about this specifically. Other similar issues yes, but not exactly this. That's also what makes me lean truck issue because how closely related the other issues I've heard about are.

Just curious what the outcome of your issue was? I’m in the middle of having the same problem.

 

Mine was more of a trailer wiring problem. Although the factory trailer brake leaves much to be desired due to lack of braking power my issue was due to my trailer wiring needed to be replaced. Once I reran I did not have same disconnect issue when stepped on brake.
