    I don't know about you, but I don't live on a racetrack. By the time you get home from this mythical spirited driving and make it up the driveway, you can turn off the vehicle.

    Maybe. What if you're towing on the highway and pull into a rest stop?

    It's not my fault Toyota put that in the manual. Why don't you take it up with them?

    the only bad part is the low threshold for speed to idle, 62mph is very low since most states have 65+ highway speed limit.

    dam lawyers probably put that in there to deny warranty claims cause of the bean counters :)

    Or you could apply basic logic instead of trying to find unrealistic examples to make a point. No one needs a turbo timer, case closed.

    I’d have to see it up close, but painting parts to break it up visually would suffice I suspect.

    That wasn't my meaning so sorry you interpreted it that way. I thought the discussion was around letting the turbos cool down.

    That only applies if your driving fast down the
    and what if you drive slower going into that rest stop with mostly slowing down from highway speeds? Then your good

    It would have to get at least 25 mpg highway. Otherwise if I need to tow more I'll go diesel and delete the EPA nanny additions

    When my current 2019 kicks the bucket....I'll probably buy another one of whatever year that is. MPG won't make me sell or switch.

    Hopefully it'll be 2040 and will be full of Lasers and Sensors.

    From an economic point of view, it will never work out to spend $50,000 in order to save a couple hundred dollars a year in fuel cost. But when I go to buy my next Tundra better mpgs will make me happy. I also think you need to look at the overall cost of ownership not just gas mileage. While the Tundra obviously has the worse gas mileage of all of the trucks, it still has the lowest cost of ownership.

    Its never going to make sense to buy a $60,000 truck just for a 5MPG increase, so I get where many of you are coming from on this. But it also isn't just "academic". Most people will save over $500 a year by gaining 5 MPGs, which may not be much to many of you, but thats a new high end fishing combo to me... So if you like burning your money getting horrible fuel economy just so you can pretend you're more of a man then good for you I guess?

    I was just hoping it would beat the Ecoboost, but it looks like that isn't happening.

    idk about others but I look at my fuel mileage a lot. When it’s high I feel better. You could say I have a better driving experience when I’m getting better fuel mileage. Cruising on a 14 hour road trip hunting getting 20+ mpg will make that long ass drive so much better.

    unless you drive the truck for the next 25 years is there any sense in spending an additional $10,000-$15,000 up front to save 5 mpg?

    As somebody mentioned above, you can't make a financial decision based on MPG when you don't know the going in investment price.

    Given that everyone drives 75mph+ on the highway, you DO in fact need to cool down afterward.
    50mph = “high speed”???
    62mph = “race track driving”?!?! :facepalm::rofl:

    well you have to take that in context, not like your house is right off the highway. its probably going to be a few miles of lower speeds before you pull into your driveway.

    now if you are doing 75 and then pull into a rest area, then yes but normal day to day, you are not going 75 to 0 in a matter of minutes.

    Well, a lot.

    I am on pace to put about 8400 miles on my truck a year. The vehicle I replaced had 33k miles and was 42 months old, so 9k miles a year is probably a bit high, but lets roll with it.

    So 9000 miles at my current 17.4 mpg average equal 514 gallons a year.

    Now, 9000 at the seemingly desired 25 mpg average would be 360 gallons a year.

    Net savings....157 gallons time the price of gas. Here right now it is $2.70 at Sam's, so that move to a new 25 mpg Tundra, or any vehicle, would save me $424 a year.

    But then there is insurance. Highly unlikely insurance on a new Tundra would be cheaper than my current 2021. I could be wrong...but I doubt it. Aluminum and composites tend to damage easily and heavily in an accident, driving up collision coverage bigly. For example, my 21 Tundra is about $230 less per year to insure than the 2017 Accord it replaced which had some aluminum panels and "energy absorbing crumple zones". But hey, let us call insurance a push anyways.

    So I could probably get $43k trade. New truck $60k? Sales tax on just the difference would be about $1700. So it would take about 4 years of driving to just recover the sales tax via gas savings at current gas prices.

    Yeah I know the price of gas is very emotional...it is thrown in your face multiple times on every trip you take. A 0.05 rise overnight will make a person angry and elevate their blood pressure. It is now a badge of honor to have high MPG vehicle. It is the talk around the water cooler. And it IMO, again IMO, the thing most guys lie about. For example, a guy I golf with bought a 2020 F150 King Ranch with the TT V6. He told me to my face he gets 35 mpg. I pretty much ignored the comment, but I was thinking liar liar pants on fire. No check that, I am certain it is liar liar pants of fire.

    My 2017 is paid for and only has 47k miles.

    I can buy a whole lotta gas for the cost of a truck payment to get better fuel economy.

    Apples to Apples with MPG being the reason to spend the extra $$? Probably 30MPG.

    My 2019 is paid off and I'm sub 21k miles. Only reason I'd sell at this point was to get a 3 row SUV like a Yukon AT4 w/ a V8, or maybe the all new Sequoia.

    Yeah, this is my intention of the post. 13-15mpg on my 2019 is not the greatest. It's my 2nd tundra and have accepted the fact. The truck is used for work other than that it's for camping/skiing/cabin trips.

    It would be nice to get 25mpg and be more inclined to be used as a everyday vehicle rather than take another.

    Unless you drive a crap load of miles per year, the mpg alone is not worth the price of upgrading
