I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
    It wouldn’t be enough.

Toyota has been testing the new TT 3.5 in Australia, Russia and Africa since 2015 in the field. That's why it takes them so long to change an engine, the R&D cost is huge.

V8 or turbo diesel, if I want a ttv6. I could brought a ford years ago. also they don't even offer hybird on lower trim and I'm not going to pay 60k+ for a copy cat truck.

I do love NA V8's, owned many from Ford 302 and 390, Toyota 4.7's, Mercedes S500.

I can see the worry about longevity and durability with the TTV6, but then I see the Land Cruiser has had a turbodiesel V8 for many years overseas. The new LC300 has the same 3.5 TTV6 as the Tundra. I'll take some confidence from Toyota's experience with turbos in the Land Cruiser.

You're comparing billions of years to hundreds, that's not how it works. However, you're right. Earth will do as earth does, even if increased global temperatures are not caused by mankind, we sure AF are not helping.
Yes, capitalist moguls and those in their favor will use any path to line their pockets, so climate change is a fantastic excuse to bring in more greens, "never let a good crisis go to waste".

Gonna side with the research on this one. The same research started by the oil industry, quickly dismissed since it affected their wallet.

Fine, I prefer my 2021 V8 Tundra for the amount of miles I put on this rig per year which is low so fuel costs are a non issue.
Also, this 5.7 has a lot of upside in terms of performance enhancements that are available to those who wish to "improve" power aspects of this engine.
My thought is that future "power enhancements" for the Turbo V6 will be literally non existent and as such will always be OEM restricted.
One more thing, Toyota is currently having issues with their 21s due to all the electronics being packed into them.
Dealer stated the new Prius is becoming a nightmare due to engine battery lasting only four days if not driven regularly.
If you look at the 22 Tundra as a daily driver, it shouldn't be a problem.
Stop and go driving with turbos is murder to them, as they prefer constant rpm speeds. Yeah, yeah I know about designed in reliability, blah, blah, blah but they can never reproduce real time scenarios covering all cases in the real world.
People will argue this thing till forever but, time will tell and IF twin turbos were the "thing" we would of had them years ago in lots of vehicles across the spectrum of offerings.
Small displacement, forced induction engines are historically less reliable than NA engines of the same displacement; this is not a point that can be defended by anyone even though they try.
I'm betting fleet sales of this twin turbo offering will be in the toilet due to maintenance and longevity issues.
I hope the best for Toyota, time will tell.

You're right, it would also need a 3.31 axle ratio as well.

I'm still curious what kind of economy someone could get it they took an older truck that's small and light and put a modern engine and transmission in it.

"The EPA says that for every 100 pounds taken out of the vehicle, the fuel economy is increased by 1-2 percent", so the 3UR is about 10-15% less gas hungry in a 1st gen Taco (I deducted 5% since all the parts needed to make it work would weight more than stock), not worth it for fuel savings, but holy **** would it be awesome.

90's LS 400 vs 1st gen Tundra is about as good comparison we can take here, right about the same engine except for 0.7L displacement. LS is undoubtedly smaller and lighter yet only gets 16 mpg in the city and jumps to 23 mpg hwy, so the more aerodynamic profile does have a big impact too, tundra gets almost the same mpg in the city
Big engines are just hungry, no changing that.

I don't think anyone's willing to put the effort in creating a truck body that can effectively achieve the lowest drag possible when consumer vehicles sell anyway

How so? This is a civilized debate with no fact checkers to distorted reality. This is nothing like a Facebook discussion. First off, we all enjoy the said product of our choice and are willing to defend that choice in a civilized manner.

    I LOVE my Big V8

After installing the TRD Performance Dual Exhaust I LOVE it even MORE!!!

Gas mileage for me is totally irrelevant. Some of my past Muscle Cars (aka The Devil’s Nightmare) were lucky to be get’n 3-4 mpg. Boy were they ever fun to drive at Wide Open Throttle!

I feel exactly the same way. That sound from that dual exhaust reminds me of an old school muscle car. It is a thrill to drive every time.

I would like to offer my feedback on the v8 /TTV6 conversation. I have owned many vehicles the last 15 years. One thing I have learned is that sometimes it’s best to stick to the older models even though the newer ones offer a little bit better mpg and features. At the moment I own a 21 f150/ 22 sienna/ 21 tundra / 21 Subaru that my wife drives. The sienna is a complete disappointment compared to the previous gen. I am planning on getting rid of the sienna and getting a new gx460 soon before they change them. The only reason I purchased the tundra even though I have a truck that I drive daily is to have the last of the v8. My opinion is that everyone is going to buy the new tundra and right away wish they would have kept the v8. This happened with the new Tacoma, so many problems at first and now you see the last gen tacomas demanding 5-10k more than they sold new with high mileage. The way I see it if you have the option to stick with what’s proven than I would quickly find one and stick with it. Just my thoughts.

Fun fact, there's actually more trees now than a 100 yrs ago due to the increased carbon levels.

I think your scientific method is broken. There is no imperial evidence to support your claim. These are theories that come and go. Yes, pollution exists from heated homes to cars that are way cleaner than they were 30 years ago to factories that billow pollutants into our sky. I think when you look at the issues you take the easy ones to try and address while ignoring the ones that are the most pressing.

But we can play along with your game, what % of difference do you think it will make for turbocharged engine that gets 5 mpg difference over a V8 engine. More importantly, is the difference even material or is it negligible?

It seems to me the real impediment to a lower carbon footprint for the auto industry is that literally no one except Toyota is building vehicles for long service lives. Building a new vehicle—particularly one with a hybrid battery—has a massive CF, and you can bet automakers want to keep everyone in a monthly payment, whether that’s through a lease model or simply trading in every few years. It would be much better for everyone’s personal pocketbooks (and worse for the automakers’ pocketbooks) if we would just keep our vehicles for 10-15 years instead of being wowed by the new shiny thing.

But no one wants to think about the fact that they’re contributing to the exact environmental problem they think they’re helping to alleviate by buying a new, (slightly) more efficient vehicle every few years. Especially if it has massive batteries made of rare earth minerals that will murder an entire ecosystem if it leaks into it.

When we buy a new vehicle every 3 years, we are supporting the manufacture (and all the energy and mining of materials that goes into it) of 5x the vehicles that keeping and maintaining one for 15 years would support.

If we chose to keep our v8 trucks for 10-15 years, instead of supporting the supply of new vehicles by demanding them every 3-5 years, this would have a MUCH bigger effect on net pollution. But we’re suckers for eco-marketing and suckers for that MPG readout on the dash.

I’ll probably end up in a TTv6 Tundra, but I’m not planning on it for a significantly long time.

I bought a 2021 a couple of weeks before the 2022 was announced. On purpose. Not that I wouldn't mind a massive power increase, but I specifically bought a vehicle that has remained basically the same for over a decade. On purpose. I'll have this truck until the government POS's are charging us extra to drive them.
