Torque specs for 05 double cab 2wd. Lower ball joint nut.

Does anyone know the torque specs for the lower ball joint nut and the 4 bolts?

I like 'good n' tight + 1 extra yank' myself but yeah i hear ya' on numbers....

 

There is a great debate over the spec, but 50-70 is good…..

 

I think my chillton book said 52ftlb, but I’m not looking at it.

 

59 ft lbs for the 4 bolts.
103 ft lbs for the nut.

 

I wrote this up a while ago when I did mine 2006 Tundra DC

Step 9: Hand tighten the 4 bolts, add thread locker to the bolts (red) Or buy new bolts

· Spec - 61 ft-lbf

· 17 mm, new bolts might be different

· Ease the torque wrench for accurate spec


Step 10: Tighten lower ball joint castle nut

· Spec - 103 ft-lbf

· You can over torque to get the cotter pin to line up

· Add new cotter pin


Step 11: Attach LBJ to tie rod and tighten to snug

· Spec - 45 ft-lbf

· You can over torque to get the cotter pin to line up

· Add new cotter pin

I followed this video on both the tundra and the sequoia. The specs in here match @jerryallday

 

I'm doing the same job in the next couple of days on my 05 DC 2WD, just about to pick up another torque wrench. I was looking at the 2005-2006 FSM and I'm a little confused.

I know that the nut is 103 FT IBS, and Tie Rod is 67 FT IBS

But the 4 bolts listed on page SA-79 diagram shows 59 FT IBS, but on page SA-84 diagram shows 48 FT IBS and on page SA-87 it says to tighten to the 48 FT IBS.

So 48 or 59?

 

@G500XL i did both my tundra and sequoia to 61 lbs on those 4 bolts. That video I linked is from 1stgenoffroad.

Toyota did a recall/update on the lowers at some point. Wonder if the spec numbers changed then

 

I did 60ftlb on the 4 bolts
