Hey everyone. I first would like to say that after a short time away I have come back and just purchased a tundra. I have always wanted a army green tundra and Recently found one which I’m sure many know is very difficult finding a tundra at this time. I am just not really sure on what I purchased and how it fits into The tundra lineup. I purchased a 21 army green trail edition, it came with a few extra options but I believe the sticker was a bit under 50k. Another dealer in the area wanted around 8k over sticker for the same truck. Are these a lot more rare than a typical tundra/sr5/off road. I really wanted to get one before the v8s were all gone, kinda silly as I have a 21 Ford F-150 also sitting in my driveway. I plan on having it sit in the driveway and driving it on the weekends and days I get sick of driving the other cars. So back to the question. I guess I’m trying to figure out what I just purchased. Was this a good buy, not that It matters but will these hold value like the other tundras or possibly less since it’s a special edition. Is there anything I need to know about this package. Any feedback would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

I have a trail edition as well. 47k sticker price no markups. I say it's a really well equipped SR5 without getting into the TRD lineup.
Comes with the bed boxes on each side kinda like the Ram Box. I rarely use the bed for hauling stuff so I like the bed boxes.
Aside from that, everything else in the trail edition is cosmetic stuff.
    example:
left bed box is a cooler
    blacked out badges (not overlays)
color-matched grille surround and hood bulge
    old-style TRD dark grey rims
    1794, Limited- style front grille
has parking sensors front and back
    deck rail system
spray on bed liner from the factory (not dealer installed)

    did i miss something?

as far as rarity, i'm not sure. Trail edition was only offered in 2021. I think a lot of people here are not going to upgrade to a 2021, but instead wait for the 2022s instead. I have only seen 1 other trail edition in my area and that's the other truck in the dealership when i got mine. the halogen headlights suck though. My 2nd mod when i got the truck was replacing the headlight assembly with LEDs

i think that’s pretty much all of it…maybe different seat cloth pattern? It’s essentially an Upgraded SR5 package with unique flair

So I’m curious - OP buys a 2021 THEN ask “what did I buy”, “did I get a good deal” et al

All I can say is expect it to hold value in line with other 2021s. For the foreseeable future (read next year) - that will be pretty good - lack of supply and slow roll out of 2022s will help keep resale high on a truck that historically has good resale.

The trail edition is a Tundra with some fancy boxes in the bed. Nothing more, nothing less. Grilles and wheels are easy to change out - if you like what it comes with - good. If not - plenty of options.

Curious why have a 2021 F150 sitting and buying this - is the Ford a work vehicle or ?? Depending on model - the F150 could be very similar or drastically different than the Tundra.

I swear there are days I think I am the worst about buying stuff I don’t need and overspending - then I stop by here and begin to feel “normal” having only a “single” new truck sitting in my driveway. (Never mind those other 3 vehicles - nothing to see there).

oh true, different cloth seat pattern haha. they look like arrows to me. which fits the "trail" edition theme i guess?

oh and the trail edition has the SR5 upgrade package already so that means 38 gal tank

Wow thanks for all the great feedback. Like someone mentioned I probably should have taken the time to figure out what I was actually buying but the truck had everything I was looking for but mainly it was a army green. I didn’t want to take a chance and miss out on the last of the 21s so I just went for it. The reason I ask about resale is because the guy at the other dealership that was asking 8k over said it’s because it’s a limited vehicle and a bit more rare than a standard tundra. Again it does not matter about resale but I was just curios. So I actually have the f150 as another vehicle to drive around, it’s not a work vehicle. My wife is a bit upset with me since last week I purchased a 22 sienna and today I got the tundra, she’s mad mainly because I added 2 new vehicles within a week and it has really messed with our parking situation at home. Thanks again for all the feedback.

If you happen to have links or part numbers or know how to find those black badges, please let me know. I hate the overlays and if there are black versions then I don’t have to paint. I’ve been looking since I read this comment and cannot find what I need. Thnx!

I know this is a bit off topic but I wanted to just provide my feedback on the 22 tundras since I had someone earlier today tell me that I was pretty making a mistake getting a 21 and not waiting for a 22. I have owned a a lot of vehicles and typically don’t keep them very long, I recently decided to change that and focus on keeping my vehicles for a long time. I have some thoughts on the new 22 tundra and I think it’s similar to the experience that I am having on the 22 sienna I just purchased. The new siennas are hybrids and I understand that’s the direction the world is going moving forward, I do have to say that I think the last gen sienna is a lot better than the new hybrid. It does not give me confidence that it will last like the older siennas, it seems like it’s built poorly compared to the last gen. I hope I’m wrong but that how I see it with the new tundra. Look at the Tacoma, yes some will say that it’s selling like crazy but imagine how many sales they would have if they kept the 4.0 v6. Also the transmission issues they have with that truck are insane. I know it seems like I’m just complaining about the cars of the future but I honestly felt like I should get the tried and proven v8 and not gamble with the new TTV6. My goal is to fill my driveway with a new gx460, new 4runner, my tundra, and my wife’s Subaru cause she won’t drive anything other than a Subaru. My opinion is these are the last of the most dependable vehicles offered by Toyota. Might be time to trade in the sienna for the gx460. Haha

I think if she drives the gx460 in place of the sienna or Subaru, you’d have an easy sale…I know my wife loved driving subarus with the awd and reliability, but she has no complaints in switching to her gx460.

What you got is a great truck OH and you made a good decision to grab the last of the V8s as 4MPGs and 8HP ain’t enough to make me want a V6 forced induction ‘22 especially since you will save money using 87 Octane (I don’t care what anyone says turbos ((especially twin turbos)) will recommend using 91 min Octane) Enjoy that AG V8 Tundra special edition and check out this hunter dude on YouTube that just posted a transformation of his AG Trail Edition because it really came out super nice all blacked out to compliment that dark green color

Wow that’s a really nice car. I promise I have tried to get her to change. Can’t blame her though, the Subarus are nice. So the gx460 would be a family vehicle, it would spend most of its time at home. Kinda like the sienna I just got, only reason I purchased it is for a family vehicle, I have 3 young kids and the only time it really leave the house if when we all go somewhere or my mother uses it to pick up the kid. Now that the sienna and tundra will pretty much spend most of the time collecting dust I’m honestly considering trading the sienna in for a gx460, that way I will have both vehicles with super low miles in 5 years. Also heard the new gx460 offers a green color option, can maybe match the tundra. Maybe too much green.

Hey, I don’t usually ask money questions
…, but that’s several new vehicles you don’t *need*. It’s entertaining for us, for you to buy ‘em , especially if you mod them and do build threads. That said, I live in CA and vehicle registration cost are horribly high! I have a friend that replaces his play (hunting, tow-behind-RV) vehicle pretty regularly, but they’re always used, several years old, and still make for an expensive habit, paying the taxes every time he swaps vehicles. Do you mind sharing, what state do you live in?

Hello. So I live in Ohio and I don’t think the fees to register are as bad as other states. I think I pay 70-80 dollars to register a vehicle for 2 years. I typically don’t buy 2 cars at a time, like mentioned earlier I purchased the tundra so I can have the last year of the dependable vehicle Toyota built. I thought about waiting and finding one used but the prices of used are more than new so it didn’t make sense to go used. I’m sure it probably seems silly to buy a truck when I own another truck.

So many questions as I read through this.

OP - you now own a ‘21 F150, a Tundra and a ‘22 Sierra - why ? What are the vehicles used for and why no Ram in the lineup?

You say you jumped on the Tundra based on “good resale” because another dealer marked up their vehicles 8k over sticker and this one is a limited edition. So if I posted by truck at 3k under NADA would you rush out to sell the Tundra at a fire sale price because the market was crashing ? What 1 person or dealer ask does not a market make - what if you found out that 8k marked up vehicle dealer was giving 5k minimum trade, a lifetime power train warranty and a free vacation to every buyer….that kinda changes the picture I think.

The Tundra had everything you wanted in a truck ? What were those key features ? Honestly - as great as a Tundra is, when it comes to features they are fairly minimal and not much that Toyota offers feature wise that others do not across the lineup or at least on comparable trims.

A trail edition as “limited” - no, it’s scarcer than a SR5 or even a Pro or Platinum for that matter - but scarcity doesn’t mean higher price. These are a marketing special Toyota came out with to see how buyers reacted - the reaction was a collective yawn. Nice truck, but a SR5+ at its core.

BTW - Ohio tags on a truck are around $65 a year plus your county fees. You can do 2 years (or up to 5 years) at a time.

Hello. So I purchased the 22 sienna for our family vehicle. We will use it to take the whole family on trips and my mother will use it to drop off/pick up kids. I have 3 young kids and a van is the best for children. I didn’t buy the tundra for features, I have owned 3 before this one and I just wanted to have the last year tundra with the proven power train. I can assure you that my f150 makes the tundra seem like a dinosaur, it doesn’t even compare so I definitely did not purchase it for any features. I just missed having a nice v8 truck. I also did not buy the vehicle based on what someone told me about the trial edition, I asked them why they are selling the truck for 8k more and they said it’s because the market and the rarity of the vehicle. I came on here to ask about the truck as I did not know much about the trail edition and wasn’t sure what I actually purchased. To be honest I really wanted a trd off road army green but could not find one. I really did like how the truck is all blacked out in the trail edition and it goes well with the army green. I’m sure many are probably thinking why would I buy another truck when I own one. I wasn’t actually planning on buying a f150 to be honest. I actually ordered a new f350 at the beginning of the year and it wasn’t built for a long time so I could not wait any longer and just grabbed a truck that the dealer had at the time. I have really enjoyed the f150 though, it’s a much better truck than the tundra in every way but I would never keep that truck over the tundra as far as long term. Now I have both which is a win win.

Welcome from OKC! I also bought a trail ed. Nice truck! Don't let these folks bs you too much. Your right, it is better built than a 22. Is it perfect? No. Can it be improved? Yes. As for a 4Runner, have an 18 here with 20k on the clock. Grab one while your able. Very good vehicle. As for value, who cares, just keep it and enjoy the simplicity. You did get a sweet deal considering the market. I gave 43500, o% for 5, and got a few options. Rear seat usb's, console safe, step tubes, and forced dealer to add powerfold oem tow mirrors. That was Dec 2020 though. Pricing has certainly changed so your not upside down really at this point unless you traded in something and were upside down on the trade. Anyway rock on and get some seat covers!

My stripped limited Tundra has caused me so much disappointment. In the first year of ownership I haven't had to search and find and solve one rattle. Not one recall. That vs. my 2017 F250 which I was driving around my neighborhood with the door open trying to find a rattle, while waiting to take to the dealership for recalls. Oh yea the cameras fogged over in a year.

As far as the 2022 I saw a youtube video last night where the sticker said capacity was 1400lbs, WTF!!!!! That is the biggest complaint of the existing model is low capacity.

In the end unless your driving a Porsche 911, Ford GT, Ferrari, we are driving transportation, get the vehicle which is the easiest to drive and maintain. BINGO Tundra. Find entertainment elswhere like strip clubs and girl friends.....

Thanks. I’m an idiot tho. Realizing now I won’t find exactly what I’m looking for. Trail Edition has actual black badges but not what I need. I need the 4x4, 2 platinum badges, and the T for my grille. I don’t think TrEd has anything but the 4x4. May have to get them painted. Thanks tho
