My bad. I thought I read the LS was getting a 5.0L V8. Maybe new for 2022?

I would have liked them to go back and switch trailers and do the same test, It is not a apples to apples test. Interesting about the long hood comment.

Agreed, it wasn't an apples to apples test and disappointing that it wasn't done. I'm sure more will come out soon.

Thanks. Looks so much better. The all black just looks cheap to me, like something is missing. From a distance, it reminds me of an old truck running around without a grill and bumper, while it’s waiting to be finished or repaired, if that makes sense lol

Wes Siler probably has more real world automotive experience and knowledge than 99% of the automotive media industry and I'd far more trust his opinion than any other. He actually uses his trucks to fit his lifestyle and has a bitchin 200 series, rad built out Ford Ranger and a classic Toyota truck. In fact that is probably the best take on the Tundra that I've seen yet since it's an honest critique in how many of us want to use our trucks. Most media outlets focus way too much on tech, doodads, and infotainment whereas Wes really looks into how the audience for Outside Magazine (and he) would use the truck, namely for off-roading, trails, camping and overlanding. The same way Scott Brady reviews a vehicle for Expedition Portal. Check out his first drive opinion of the Tundra as well. I think from the perspective of a buyer looking to use their truck as an off-roader and overlander, both Wes and Scott hit the nail on the head.

Anyone know if you can get the Limited TRD Off Road with the rear air load leveling system? Like the goodies in the Off Road package but would also like the towing benefits of the air leveling system...

Nope currently the only V8 in Lexus cars is the RC F, LC, LC Convertible. They get the 5.0 L V8. which is the 2UR-GSE, The GX 460 gets the 1UR-FE, and the outgoing LX570 gets the same 3UR-FE as the 2nd gen Tundra.

The 2UR-GSE has a shorter stroke than the 3UR-FE (89.5mm vs 102mm) and gets Toyota/Lexus D-4S Direct Injection/Port Injection while the 1UR and 3UR get just port injection.

From 2006-2017 the Lexus LS got the 1UR-FSE with D4-S. But they went to the V35 in 2017. As far as I know there is not generation of Toyota/Lexus V8 after the UR series is phased out.

I like these guys’ channel but after filtering through a half dozen videos, they are the only ones that seem to really dig it.

When I say “it”…I mean performance, shifting, responsiveness, suspension, brakes etc as opposed to tech trickery(auto start/stop, blind spot monitors, auto cruise etc) that I couldn’t give one ounce of shit less about.

In general, I get the vibe from these reviewers that the 22 is better than the last one but just average otherwise. Nobody is anywhere near shitting their pants(in a good way)about anything after driving it

“Power is ok(not as good as a ford), ride is ok(not as good a ram) shifts ok, room is ok, interior is ok(not as good as ford or ram) efficiency seems ok”…”ok” sucks after all the teaser, “world beater” games that have been tossed at us for years now.

Unlike most it seems, I think its a good lookin’ truck and Id buy it before any of the “domestics” but performance wise I kinda feel like someone pee’d in my cereal so far.:bored:

"Power is ok" - Am I missing something? Compared to the equivalent, Ford Raptor's 3.5L EcoBoost V6, the TRD Pro makes more power . . . right?
Interior, ride, and luxury, I suppose I understand. But one thing's for sure: None will ever be as reliable as a Yota

EDIT: Whoopsies, a Ford Raptor DOES indeed make a little more power: 450 HP although Tundra's torque numbers are better

I know its in the ballpark powerwise…just sayin’, in general nobody seems that impressed. Just seem to give a proverbial shrug after driving it.

Agreed…it’ll be a better quality built vehicle no doubt.

Been looking at the videos on the offroad test course in Texas. Toyota set up some log obstacles, dug some holes. The truck handled them well. I didn't see the chin dig into anything and that's with 32.5" stock tires. 48' turning circle is not so good.

Articulation stock isn't super-duper, but the swaybars limit articulation. If you want more articulation remove the swaybars, beef up the springs and shocks to compensate for onroad handling.

There's a lot of versatility with rear coilsprings if you remove the swaybar. Stouter springs, airbags, Timbren or Sumo to compensate onroad handling and sway control. Not super expensive and you get better articulation. Probably will need extended rear brakelines, but that's cheap and easy.

Pretty good debut with a 145" wheelbase on 32.5" tires. Will be interesting to see the Sequoia debut with the shorter wheelbase. New Sequoia is supposed to replace the Land Cruiser in North America. Won't have a 48' turning circle. New Sequoia could be a hit especially with MTS and crawl control. Maybe retains full-time 4WD.

If the reliability is on par with other Toyota trucks, then that will be its ace in the hole for people considering ownership over a longer term. If you're only planning to keep a vehicle for a few years, then the competition is probably equal or better in most ways...until they break or have ridiculous quality control issues.

In that video above from TFL @~4:50, they state that the "Running Ground Clearance" is the ground clearance to the chassis. The other ground clearance is to the pumpkin (differential).

I’m quite surprised at how much is standard and available in an SR5. In one video they said softex is an option. If you can get all those niceties (heated seats, pano roof, heated steering wheel, softex) AND still come in under $45k, that’s a pretty good deal. Only wish you could get the hybrid powertrain as an option. But if the real world economy show that the difference between the regular TT motor vs the hybrid is super small, it will make the SR5 that much more attractive.

True and the difference between the 3.5tt and hybrid is like 600 pounds that's like 60hp if you go by 10hp per 100 pounds
