All the turbos and hybrid system is only good for empty truck, that’s what the epa tested on anyway. Once I put load in it it may change a lot

Speaking of Nissan...crazy how much that new Frontier looks like the new Tundra. Who copied who? Both copy Silverado?

I'd die if a brand new TRD Pro is cheaper than the current TRD Pro MSRP.

Not sure if anyone saw this but the SR5 gets a lower output version of the twin-turbo according to Motortrend. https://www.motortrend.com/reviews/...cR2pEAsNar_oO-WO2pijbmVR-M1Psc-z78TQge62t30sA

How Do The Powertrains Stack Up?
Here Toyota takes direct aim at Ford's twin-turbo V-6 EcoBoost engines. Toyota's 3,445cc i-Force V-6 bests Ford's entry 2.7-liter EcoBoost by 23 horsepower and 5 lb-ft in the entry-level Tundra SR, which produces 348 hp and 405 lb-ft. All other trim grades come standard with the higher-output i-Force, rated at 389 horses and 479 lb-ft (11 fewer hp but 69 more lb-ft than Ford's 3.5-liter EcoBoost).

The new powertrain option scootches the 10-speed automatic 9 inches rearward in the chassis to make room for a beefy 48-hp/184-lb-ft permanent-magnet electric motor that earns the moniker i-Force Max. This setup's combined output of 437 hp and 583 lb-ft trumps Ford's PowerBoost hybrid by 7 hp and 13 lb-ft. (Toyota cedes the power-outlet war to Ford, offering only 400 watts of 110-volt juice in the bed, versus the 2 kW available in the Ford.)

Well, since everyone else has ripped off that little notch in the crew cab rear window that the Frontier had first, why not?

Doesn’t have to be cheaper than the current TRD pro. Just has to be cheaper than the competition which is putting out an arguably more capable off road truck.

The 55k was just for reference and was only a prediction made by C&D.

Point is, if Toyota puts the TRD pro out at $X then they better hope Chev puts the ZR2 out at $Y…. and X better be less than Y is all I’m sayin!

Yeah that C&D pricing estimator is garbage. But Toyota will prob have to announce pricing before Chevy.

It seems like a really odd thing for C&D to comment on. It has an e diff, and every electronic nanny aid known to man. It's not an El Camino.

Also, like I said a few pages ago, it's time we stop considering this truck to have 583 lb ft of torque just because when we added up the two motors, that's what we got.

if the base engine actually gets 17/22 in crewmax 4x4, thats pretty good, I mean I cant even get the 13/17 we have now.

but I do wonder, if its "only" 17/22, then I wonder what a new 6.2 I-force V8 would have been with the 10 speed and lighter truck

I bet it would be every bit as good or near it, maybe 16/20 ish. I would rather have that and not fake pumped in sound TTV6.

I guess it doesn't matter now anyways.

it will be interesting to see what the official hybrid numbers are, but I doubt I will go that route with the expenses and loss of storage, etc.

    looking over the spec sheet....

    1. no freaking mud guards on a platinum (but is shows on the trd off road package that is available for the platinum see # 8)
    2. power boards are optional (thank god for me in ND)
    3. towing mirrors are optional and in a package by themselves, awesome (trying to decide if i would ever use these for the one off chance to justify the cost)
    4. air suspension and rear bags are optional (i prefer not to get this, see #3)
    5. hud is in a package, will probably get this (ugh you have to get the air suspension and rear bags)
    6. 1 touch up/down on windows (doesnt specifically say only drivers side like it normally does)
    7. why does the hybrid get a locking gas cap but the NA doesnt
    8. trd off road pkg on platinum is probably a typo (every reviewer has said it doesnt get it)

i really hope the hud isnt tied to the air suspension/rear bag package in final form, this is a deal breaker probably for us since we dont tow enough to justify it

Agreed. Was hoping the ‘22 would blow everyone out of the water, but if it’s not going to be an HD truck, we’re running out of ways to obey the laws of physics and drop the new truck way out in front of the pack while still at least mostly maintaining Toyota’s commitment to reliability.

There were definitely some things I didn't expect:
    • Pre-production Limiteds had memory seats, but they are not on the spec sheet except in platinum/1794
    • TRD Pro has all towing options except for tow mirrors and SPA? Or did I miss it somewhere?
    • No HUD in the TRD Pro
    • This one has been stated before, but the SR5 has the best "Exterior Differentiation" options
    • Platinum and TRD Pro are the only way to get blacked out options (from the factory)
    • It seems to me that the platinum/1794 have very little in the way of premium extras to be considered "premium". Maybe the rumored "Capstone" trim will solve this?
Looks like TRD Pro may be the sweet spot for me. I was hoping to stick with a Limited, but with no blacked out options and no memory settings, I think that sways me towards the Pro.

To be fair, Ford and GM have 4x4 crew cabs that break the 2k mark for payload. That’s what I was hoping for. Whether you believe them or not is up to you I suppose…

keep in mind that Toyota makes midsize crew cab trucks rated for 2k lbs payload; you just can’t get them in North America.

I agree on the C&D price predictions, like I say, was just for reference.

I should’ve just said: “Toyota would be wise to price the TRD pro below the ZR2” And just left it at that.

I mean, who expects/wants to pay more for an off road trim, when a more capable (debatable) off road truck is at the dealership across the street for less? (This is usually where the reliability arguments come crashing in).

As a result of that direct competition, I don’t think Toyota will release TRD pro pricing at the end of this month with the gas models. Seems like they are waiting and hoping Ford / Chev show their cards first.
    But time will tell!
