Will the skid plate need to be removed in order to do oil changes? I'm assuming so since there doesn't seem to be an access door on the skid plate.

Depends on where the filter is. I didn't pay attention in any of the videos to see, but if it's side or top mounted it might not require the skid to move.

Good question. It doesn't on the current gens, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't on the new trucks.

One reason why I still have my 1989 Toyota Pick-up with manual roll-up windows - most kids today don't even know what those are. Fanciest things are the clutch by-pass and A/C buttons!

The new Tundra is the final nail in the coffin for half tons being trucks in the way most of us have thought of trucks. Go 10 years back and jump from and F150 to an F25/F350 and they were relatable, you could feel the HD's were beefed up but the F150 still had a truck feel to it. Now even though the F150 and F250/F350 share interior design they feel nothing alike, the F150 drives much more like and Escape than an F250. Look at the new Tundra as if it's a big car with a bed and their decisions make complete sense. Pretty sure many don't want to face this truth, but if you want a 'truck' now, in the old sense of tough, rugged, go get down and dirty, then it's off to the HD market

Is the poll total lifetime uses as a driver, or uses in my current Tundra? My answer is the same either way, but it may affect others.

Or be slightly less dramatic :boink: and just keep the current Tundra that is still a truck. :p

Good point Adam. What's your opinion on what it should say? Per year? Five years?

So even though the 1/2 tons are more capable today, tow more, higher payloads, etc they aren't a real truck because they don't make you piss blood after you ride in them for any length of time? I will take a good riding more capable truck over "real truck" that rides like a chuck wagon and has half the power and tow rating any day of the week.

My Grandson wanted to know what that handle was on the door, (window roll up handle) on my base model 2003 Tacoma that we bought new for $12,500.

17 mpg during an event with constant stop/start at low speeds and lots of idling time, I think it's actually great news. Even though Sweers has mentioned he doesn't really care to be in a pissing match against the big 3 in terms of numbers, I'm still expecting 25 combined in order to one up Ford's new hybrid.

since when has a 4runner had the same engine as a tundra? technically the v8 from the old 3rd gen was there, but then toyota realized it cannibalized lexus 470/460 sales since you could get the same engine in a 4runner, hence the reason the v8 was dropped.

i dont expect them to do the same when the current gen or next gen lexus 460 gets the new engine. i could see a 3.5L v6 na detuned pushing about ~300/325 hp and maybe 325/350 ftlbs. so it makes people push up to a lexus 460 with more hp/torque. and i expect the new gx 460 to get the 3.5L and about 25/50 more hp/tq with the new engine compared to the v8 it will be replacing.

i know toyota is in the process of removing most of the v8 engines across the line to improve mpg/cafe standards across the board. it was only a matter of time the lexus big bof vehicles move that way.

    but thats just me guessing.

it was covered a few pages back. The trucks that the press have been reviewing have been stomped on pretty good and have been sitting idling for long periods. So the numbers displayed on the dash probably aren’t very accurate. Luckily we should have more info tomorrow:

The 4.0L 1GR-FE was an engine option for the 2nd gen Tundra at one point. Same engine that the Taco used (up to 2016) and the 4Runner still uses to this day.

Well, in my 22 years of driving I've used/been involved when the front hooks were used on a non CDL vehicle all of 2-3 times tops. If you restrict it to 5 years, I'm at a big fat goose egg.

I think I am at 5 times in 16 years. It is nice to have them and many people do use them much more than I do, but I also know most people will never use them.

For me, maybe once in my lifetime. I never pull in reverse if I have a high pinion front differential with my trucks. Now Jeeps and off-roading...all bets are off.

I'm in the mindset with something like front tow/recovery hooks is, I would rather have them and not need them, than need them and not have them.

Yeah, I should have been clear, I've never pulled anyone with them. I've hooked up to their front hooks to pull them out, and I've been pulled by them. If there is any way to avoid using the front hooks, I will take it. They are a last resort for me.

Same philosophy with many things in life...

I agree, the truck should have them. If even used once, it was worth it.

I've never used my air bags, but I like to know they would be useful should the need arise.

That being said, I have used the tow hooks and where I offroad they are required.

Don't have to apologize. My fault, I was on a major rant, got all impressed with my ranting ability as I went along, and foot in mouth resulted.
