Day 6 .... I just love a concrete day! It's that time when all the work pays off, and you have your dream set in liquid stone! I got up at 5:45 AM, yeech, made some food, went outside, and the boys were here!
Then the pumper showed up at 6:30 AM, and the concrete at 7:15 AM.. I hope the neighbors weren't planning to sleep late today!!

Then the pumping action started, all 9 yards of it!

It took about 25 minutes to empty the truck! The screeding began!

    Then 3 hours of finishing

    Here's the before & after!

    So now it's looking great!
The shed will be delivered on the 15'th, and the big move in begins, then garage refurb starts! Mill should be here mid next week, we will see how it goes!

Something about concrete day that's so awesome! We were more excited about concrete day for our house than pretty much any other day besides closing. We'll be like that when the pool goes in as well. My wife may be home with the new baby when that happens, so she'll be able to look out the big picture windows and watch it all. We just feel bad cuz we don't like to hang over people and watch them work (same reason we don't like people doing it to us), but it's just nice to watch and see it form up and go forth.

That's for sure, I have been working with my contractor for the last 29 years. He does gardening, and hardscapes. Dependable, a friend, and his crews are just terrific! They finished early today, I bought them all lunch. Looking forward to the future improvements with them around this old house!

You'll be surprised at how destructive pool installations can be. Mine came with the house, but several neighbors have installed them recently. Looks like a war zone or bombing range until it's finished

this is a rendering they did of our yard. it's all open and no fencing to get through. it's in the back yard. so they'll have plenty of room to go and do work. hopefully they keep all the equip close to the site and don't go drive out into the yard for no reason....not getting my hopes up though. lol

Over the weekend I removed the chimney and ancient oil furnace, patched up the roof pretty well for a rookie. Now I'm ready to level the floor.

What I've seen around here is that they put in a temporary crush and run driveway to get from the street to the yard the add sod when they're done. Yard still looks awful in progress, but it's temporary.
    Nice looking pool. Fiberglass?

I have a concrete driveway that goes to even with thr back of the house, then it's about 30 feet until start of concrete and about 100 feet to thr back of the concrete.
We're doing a gunnite pool. It's kinda custom and what's suggested for here in South Louisiana. Plus I've got friends with both fiberglass and lined pools and they almost all say they'd prefer gunnite

One thing to spec if you still can is mounting of garage door and heater on chunks of vapour barrier and whatever base for your ceiling finish will be (ie OSB). Saves a lot of pissing around if you are finishing it out yourself later.

If you don’t park any car inside the garage, it’s ok to wait. Cause if the car is on fire inside the garage, the Sheetrock will stop the spread for an hour. That’s why garage Sheetrock need to be ½”, for fire code. Also need lvl 2 finish. Which is fill all drywall screw holes and mud and tape all joints.

Pretty sure it’s 5/8, but yes. Gotta be fire rated rock and level 2 finish, which looks like shit and didn’t take much to throw some texture and paint on and call it done!

Correct, it is 5/8” for the added fire protection.

I appreciate that guys. I've seen lots of garages with no sheetrock and cars in them. I'm not too concerned for that, if anything having a live flame or two in my garage 24/7 (water heater and furnace) is a bigger fire threat than my car.

The car that is moving in there won't be running until April of next year. By then I'll be looking to patch the ceiling. When I'm ready to replace that drywall I'll get the 5/8s. I don't care at all about finish because its a garage.

My friends dad’s house burned down some years ago. It was a newer build and the only thing left in touched was the garage. It was a four alarm fire by the way. Food for thought since people like me store so many valuable items in the garage.

The garage will be sheetrock, tape, and hole filled. Not painted tho. I’d like to paint it but may not have time.
They have small sections of Sheetrock where the garage door attach to the ceiling. I’ll get a photo when done. They have started the sheet rock in the house. When I was there a couple of weeks ago for a walk thru on the house, there was a guy spraying the floors….. he was marking all the fixtures that would require an opening in the ceiling Sheetrock. Just in case someone decided not to create an access opening….

With that little bit of turf, it would have been nice to put a cup in and made it into a little putting green! That crack in the sidewalk looks sad, but getting the city, especially SF to fix anything will never happen!! Nice house color, great concrete work!! I'm liking it!

I finished my little tree stump table project today. I also moved a cedar bench / brick thing I made last year to the side of the chimney because it looks better (you can see part of it in the 2nd pic).

Very simple, but had to add a lil adjustable drop bar and hand held spray nozzle in the girls bathroom. They're 5 and under right now and rinsing out their hair hasn't been as easy. About 10 min install. Perk is that this has option to not have to drill more holes for lower mount. It has a suction and adhesive option.

Nice you don’t have to drill into the tile but not sure how well the adhesive would hold up. Maybe seal it with silicone caulk?

I wanted to give this a shot first, but I agree. It's once of those gel style adhesive pieces, so it can get into the grooves/pores of the textured tile pieces. Plus, if we decided we don't like it or it's functionality, it'll come down. It's mostly just for now while the girls are too young and short to reach up high.

Continuation from 7595. Our new neighbor sent my wife a message a couple days ago that the storm that passed had a bolt of lightning hit a tree in the back area near our property boundary. The tree part left was a stump about 18 feet high. It was once a tall tree. Our neighbor said that they took out a few more trees for the drain field and the blasted tree top (parts?).

One week has passed and they sheetrocked the entire house and garage. There were 4 guys working today (a Saturday) taping. The project manager actually showed up and got the furnace going, a great idea if you want the Sheetrock taping to cure!!! It was good for us to be there on such a historical moment….

I really like the idea of no posts in the garage. I hope they did their engineering right..

Installed the drain field and they hooked up the septic to it. The septic system is like a miniature water treatment plant, yielding clean water. This is a lot more exotic than my current home’s septic system. I’ll have to read up on it sometime.

They also finished the back deck, but still have to add stairs…??? I tried a water spigot outside, water is hooked up…

To move boxes and stuff in the basement, I think I’ll load the tundra and drive it around to the the back patio and go in that way and save some energy. I don’t think the Tundra will have a problem with the mud.
