Just some before pics. The easiest part so far. Rims/tires, Westin Ultimate Bull Bar, Luverne Nerfs, Weather Techs, PrecisionFit fancy dancy seat covers. Pro Comp 3/1 lift was already on truck when I bought it. Recently added Sean's pull-off TRD coil-overs/shocks. Added K&N drop in. Interior LED's. Still need to install SABM kit. I picked up the new in box PIAA 40 Series Fogs today. Will try to mount them on Bull Bar today before lightning strikes. Bought them off Craigs List for $45. A steal. Got home and realized the deal I got so I called the guy I bought them from to hold on to his last pair. I will put clear lens on them and mount them out back. Pointless to spiffy up truck for photo op considering humongous thunder heads approaching.

Do you plan on leaving the bumpers chrome?

Great start to your build thread!

For now yes. Chrome looks good on a 70's Riviera. I do want to ditch the nerfs, bull bar eventually. Can't see changing out bumpers. I want to black them out and the grill. I am going with a custom Westin style winch tray bolt on to the front. Winch will be mainly for hauling out black spruce, fire wood when I am back in AK. Not sure when that will be. Maybe a year or so.

I forgot to mention that I want NFab style slider/steps to replace nerfs. Rain and thunder is now happening. That's why I said "sort of" starting.

U mentioned keeping the bumpers stock and adding a winch..Can the stock bumper handle the weight of a winch?
Are you painting or plasti-dipping them black?

My dog was kind enough to wake me up at 4am.
Whatever winch I decide to go with (preferably Ramsey hydraulic with boost,no overheating issues) will be primarily to winch out logs that are too big to man handle. Westin sells a winch tray but is too cheesy for me. I have a coworker who has a decent shop who is going to help me build one that meets my needs. Winch tray will be bolted into place using the same connection points as the bull bar except with high carbon fasteners. I shouldn't have to make any adjustments to the bumper itself. The additional weight should not be an issue compared to a full bumper swap with the spiffier TRD coils. Of course there is always the Toytec Boss setup to fall back to when the TRD's no longer suffice (and budget). The bumper won't have any stress on it since winch tray is bolted directly to frame. I have even welded fabbed trays to the frame with positive results in the past with NO issues, plus I won't have all that extra weight of an aftermarket bumper setup that is complete overkill in most cases unless all you use it for is recovery situations or you have a smaller truck/jeep and need the added pulling or pushing weight or for taking out bison. "With all that new added bumper w/winch weight you need to get one of our suspension upgrades". That's 4Wheel Parts line. IMO.Tundra is pretty beefy already. Not exactly a lite weight. I have used this same type of set up for over 40 years without issue. For the occasional recovery I will use old school block and tackle method and/or stretchable Bubba's, Voodoo ropes if needed. I was raised in western Oregon (choker setter/landing chaser before USMC) and pulled out a lot a of logs and and stuck Fords. These were the days (early 70's) before there were aftermarket bumpers readily available (aftermarket anything, everything had to be fabbed) so you used what you had and did a lot of thinkin outside of the box. There were the rare times where we had to hoof it and go get a D5 (Cat) because we all got stuck. We got the D5 stuck once along with a grader too. THAT WAS A REAL BITCH. The boss wasn't too pleased the we left him out of the loop on that one. At least until he found out. Heh Heh. What do you recommend for the bumpers? I know plastidip can be removed at some point but permanent fix would be alright.

If it were me, and I was adding a winch I would upgrade the shocks / coils at the very least depending on the weight of the winch.

If I had your color truck, I would either factory paint match it, or use plasti-dip them black. When @csuviper and I did ours, I believe it was 7 coats per bumper.

I may go with the plastidip. I am installing the fogs now. Just taking a quick break. Got them mounted on the bull bar and looking good. This is a work in progress and I am trying to budget for the best bang for the buck. I thinking now about keeping the bull bar and going with a rear receiver mount winch. I am going to only need a 1500 to 2000 lb max electric winch for my purposes. That way I'll put it on when I know I am going to need it. I will mostly be winching small logs to the back of my truck. Probably never pull more than a few hundred lbs at a time anyways. I may plastidip or powder coat the bull bar. I am going to delay the exhaust upgrade for the time being. Will still dump the nerfs for the sliders. My first major mod is going to be the Auburn Gear LS. Going to contact Just Diff's tomorrow and get pricing info. I like the low cost mods you and Viper have done and will have decide which one to do first.

The lights are installed and almost completely wired up. Just need to install power switch. Is there any easy way to get to the aux 12 volt out that is to the right of the cigarette lighter?

If you want to make it easier use a (add line) in the fuse box section. Get them at auto parts stores.

You reminded me to check my catch all tool box. I did some wiring on my son's 97 Rover Discovery a couple of years ago and had some left over goodies. I actually found what I needed. Thanks. Now it is raining. TV time. (Discovery factory wiring sucks)

Just got my quote from Just Differentials for the Auburn Pro LS 4.33/1 setup. Decent pricing and free shipping to boot. About 50 to 60 bucks cheaper than other quotes.CAM00094.jpg

I like the ARB but my lowest quote was way more than the Auburn. If you include the compressor and all the ancillary goodies for the ARB it's close to 2K before labor. The Auburn is the best fit for my budget and the install won't be that difficult. My go to auto repair place for the difficult fixes has a very good differential tech with a lot of experience with differential swap outs and they will let me snap install pics to post when it happens. They are not cheap but the best reputation in the area. Been using them for 11 years and have total trust/confidence in their work and 5 minutes away.

I think that guy left about 2K miles of rubber in 25 feet. Pic would be better with more burning rubber/smoke special effects.

Filthy Motorsports Drive Train actually has them for 1157.00 which is not bad but I need the extra skin for exhaust upgrade, which I'll want to do next in a few months.

Once I decided to skip the BA mufflers and go with the Auburn, I called Exhaust Pro here in Aurora. I can get a Flow Master Super 50 and tip installed for $250 which is doable for my budget. The Super 50 is a good match. One of the few aftermarket mufflers that is almost close to OEM size. Jim at Exhaust Pro has done a few Tundra's with the Super 50 already with good results. Better flow and HP than OEM of course, and no low end torque loss that he see's with the dual setups which are better overall on the high end HP and torque. Exhaust Pro is known for their custom setups and is highly regarded. He knows his stuff and got the dyno's to prove it. Doesn't hurt that he is only couple miles away either. The exhaust is probably the only thing I have left that I'll do to the engine. The engine doesn't exactly suck stock, but the OEM muffler is certainly too restrictive. Too bad Toyota doesn't offer some kind of locker anymore.
