Trying to get my damn timing cover on, and can't seem to figure it out this time around. I thought the oil pump "key" flat spots were supposed to line up with the crankshaft flat spots, but that isn't working...tried lining up the notched out key part with the key on the crank, but that's not working either.

Do I just suck at life and or what am I missing? The closest I can get it on is in the last pic...but it feels like it gets stuck on the crankshaft.

Definitely drinking tonight. Was hoping to at least get the damn cover on today, then button up tomorrow and see if my truck is ruined or not :frusty:

First 2 questions that come to mind:
Is the crank seal already installed on cover before you try to put it on?
Is the pin pulled from the chain tensioner?

Crank seal is installed already, and pins are pulled from all tensioners.

It's weird...a week ago I got on the cover with a little trouble...but this time around it doesn't want to go on all the way. It feels like it's binding at the crankshaft. It's not catching on the key, i've gotten on the ground to look up with a flashlight, but all looks good. I did a couple of taps with a mallet once it feels like it's binding, while wiggling the cover. Just doesn't want to go any further. Everything up top is good, just the damn lower area.

The only thing I'm not 100% certain on, the oil pump key/ring thing with the two indents/flatish spots...are those supposed to line up with the flat spots on the crankshaft? Either way, I've gone all the way around with it. Frustrating.

Yes, the flats/indents line up with the flats on the crank. I typically like to put on the crank seal after the cover is installed. Makes it easier to see and no chance of hitting and knocking the spring out. Only other thing I can think of is make sure to lightly lubricate the new ORing on the metal coolant pipe. Good luck!

You may already have seen the above vid, but if not it might help. He was pretty thorough. I watched just enough to realize this job would be way over my head lol. I think about the 27 minute mark is where it may help you.

OK, thank you. Thought I was going crazy. Crank seal, thankfully, still has the spring in it. O-Rings were good to go on the metal coolant pipe...I notice some have the pipe on their cover, and others leave it in on the eng. side of things. I double checked that it was all the way in, which it is.

I think this is what I needed. After jack and cokes last night and eggs with bacon and some coffee this morning...my dumbass was able to get the dumbass cover on multiple times, so it's on and all sealed up again. Hopefully for the last time :duh:

Man, this video was quite helpful, and also unhelpful at times. It's not a video that you can follow 100%, as he will do stuff that's not in the video then when you get to those points you're looking for other videos to help you along.

I do appreciate you're help though.
