That's how I look at it also. As have thousands of Toy owners for decades. Sweers said it will have variable rate rear coils so that may be helpful for load control. If not, Toytec will have Superflex HD's out fast, Dobinson also.

i would think they should give it some thought. Over the past 20 years i've had taco, 2 tundras and 2 sequoias. I am THE customer Toyota wants. The guy who is ok with less tech and bullshit for the same $$ since i know it's a real truck and gonna last.

No way in hell I would want to tow 7K with a Tacoma on a regular basis. I had a 2005 double cab long bed that I pulled about 6,000 lbs of sod on a flat bed trailer one time. I was on secondary roads, no highways with a max speed of about 50mph and it was white knuckle. It pulled fine, but stopping and ability to control the load with that truck in an emergency situation would not be there. Add in the cross section of a travel trailer and highway speeds and that's a hell no from me. Ranger may claim those numbers, doesn't mean it's safe to do it.

The Hitch should not attach to the bed in either case but to the frame so I am not sure why anything will really change?

If they stiffened the frame (like the are going to) and put better brakes (rear disks have already been seen on test mule) that would go a long way to helping make the max tow feel a little more stable.

No way in hell they gonna get rid of the drum brakes, that’s their sell point…sell you yesterday tech with today price.

I am currently driving a 2002 Ford Sport Trac with 170,000 miles. So far I have only replaced the passenger side front wheel bearing besides normal maintenance. The interior is still in good shape with no rips any where. It is one of the rare manual 5 speeds. I am in the market for a truck with at least 10,000 pounds towing so I may tow a double axle trailer with a farm tractor like a Massey Ferguson 65. I am making do with the Sport Trac and so far the clutch is showing no signs of stress. I have been looking at F150 models but buy the time I get the options needed to get 10,000 pounds towing I am in the $45,000 range. I think that I will be able to configure a nice SR5 double cab, short bed, for slightly over $40,000. Every option package is another thing to break that at some point will require expensive maintenance. So I keep my trucks as simple as possible, as reliable as possible, and run them forever. I am looking for the configuration with the highest payload and towing ratings. I think the SR5 double cab will have a payload of 1885 and a tow rating of 11,300.

I like the new Tundra because of its 11,000 pound plus tow rating, the turbo V6, the ten speed, and the backseat room of the double cab. I think I will be able to average close to 30 mpg by being very gentle with the accelerator. My brother on the family farm has a 2018 F150 with the 2.7 that I get 29-31 mpg out of every time I drive it during the summer.

So I am firmly in the keep the truck as simple as possible camp. I am going to wait to buy mine until the second year when the dealers have too many trucks and need to sell them. I find walking in on a cold snowy February day with cash in hand can snag a real deal. Currently on average, because of the shortage of inventory, pickup incentives have dropped by about $3000 per truck. It is the worst time possible to buy a new pickup. Let me repeat myself - I am going to wait until the dealers have their lots full of inventory that they need to move before I buy mine.

It's not just about frame stiffness or better brakes, a Tacoma just doesn't have the weight to control a large load. Too easy for the tail to wag the dog. There is absolutely no comparison between towing with my old Tacoma and my tundra. My Tacoma would tow a boat and stuff, but you knew it was there, a truck passed you and you had to make sure you were in control of the truck. Tundra isn't fazed by it. People are even saying that about the F150, they are making them lighter and even though their tow numbers are going up, they don't tow as well as the Tundra does. They may pull better, but they don't tow as well.

Surely you realize it would have been easy to put a 1500W+ inverter in? Like the Sienna has? Seems short-sighted to trot out the same 400W inverter in use since 2005.

I go back to Sweers at the reveal saying "It's not a work truck, it's a lifestyle truck" or something like that. Even if it's a lifestyle truck, people that are offgrid for a few days with an RTT, ground tent, sleeping platform under a shell, they could plug in extra lighting, space heater, coffeemaker, blender, crockpot, a microwave/convection oven. Shouldn't have to haul a genny and fuel containers.

Isn't the new tundra lighter?....I wonder if the towing feel from the previous gen's will suffer with the reduction in the weight of the truck and the aluminum (like the Ford).

If you buy the ttv6, I’m sure it will be lighter, but not the hybrid.

hehe, sorry. as long as you like, thats all that matters, don't listen to me...

just not my cup of tea. I would have liked to seen them do a much darker richer color brown, more like a nice oiled saddle.

No issue, I actually prefer the limited seats the best with the Toyota truck pattern in the perforation

That's exactly what I was hoping for. Seems like it would be a perfect fit for a truck that is named after a ranch.

Real front towhooks are an accessory, and someone pointed out that the current gen they're an option. That makes sense, dealers order their trucks with towhooks and when people see the 2nd gen that they bought of the lot has hooks they think it's standard.

Did you know you can read without being a member or replying? In the last 6 months, I got married, passed the cpa exam, bought a house, bought my office building and my wife is pregnant. I'm doing just fine, got plenty to do. Thanks for your concern.

That's nice, but you can't run a company catering exclusively to what your existing customers want. It's what Harley did and look at how that ended up.

As cool as it would be to see a version of the Tundra that you put in the dryer, I just mean they have to differentiate it and make it worse. Look at the Cayman/Boxster and the 911. They can't make the lesser platform too good before it starts cannibalizing sales of the big brother. BTW, the 718 and 911 share a platform.
