Looks to be the 2022 tundra, being that they went with this new universal shared platform for the body on frame vehicles that some compromises had to be made. We will see for sure once it hits the lots or after the press embargo maybe we will receive more info but so far comparing pictures and seeing people sit in the double cab it looks to be smaller.

That's a good point. I have a bed slide so I don't care either way as the slide is above the bed anyway...

I have to ask myself what's more likely: A) that there's less space and that this is the one vehicle that bucks the trend of 50+ years of automotive bloat or B) that it's a bad video with a pre production truck with the drivers seat mounted farther back than it will be in production to make the front part of the cabin roomier for a bunch of youtube hacks.

    I guess we'll see.

Curious how many caught the Thursday night NFL game between the the Seahawks and Rams or more importantly the Toyota Half Time show which featured the new Tundra. I've seen the images but daaaaaaaayyyyyym does it look good on Tv.

That's it, i'm out. Final straw.

Was a nice run for Toyota though. Next pickup will either be a '21 Tundra or '22 F250.

So is this not allowed to be discussed in this thread it something? Is that what your getting at? It's still relevant to the 22' tundra and was referencing to the video posted in this thread. I forgot I can't go against the 22' tundra in this thread apparently.

I think we're going to see a lot of fellow tundra owners jump ship now unfortunately but apparently according to this thread they will pick up more Tacoma owners looking for more cabin room but not capability.

That's not at all what I am getting at. This thread is for all things 2022 Tundra, but doesn't it make sense to discuss in the thread that is specific for that topic instead?
    • This thread is already nearly 600 pages
    • Those that want to focus on the interior space have a place to do it.
    • People that don't want to hear about it can simply not subscribe to that thread and still continue getting notifications to this thread
edit: It's probably a good idea to have dedicated threads for other topics that seem to be repeated ad nauseam

Interested to know... If there was a way to turn it off would you still be out?

edit: Seems there is a way to disable it on the Supra

You're truck is a 2017. It's still super young if you've maintained it. Unless you need to for tax reasons or some such, why would you replace it?

    Not judging. Honestly curious.

I've seen one picture of it, but here is a video that has the darker leather that is available on the 1794.
To me, it is better than the orange of the old 1794, but not sure I like it or not. I would like to see it in person.

Cynicism aside, they probably spent millions on client research and already know how many of you are going to jump ship. They also know how many tacoma owners they're going to convert, and how many first time truck buyers they're going to grab. Toyota didn't become the second largest auto maker in the world by accident. Toyota made every one of the decisions on the new truck deliberately and intentionally. Go back and watch the TFL interview. The engineer even alludes to it. He says he knows the vast majority of Tundra owners won't tow over 8,000 lbs, so 12k should be plenty. Does he care the Ford can tow 14k? No. Why? A bunch of marketing guys already told him he doesn't have to. Same is probably true of payload.

I'm annoyed by the tone of your post. "I think we're going to see a lot of fellow tundra owners jump ship now unfortunately" I don't know how to tell you this, but Toyota has probably known you were going to jump ship before they started leaking photos. Unfortunately, they don't care. They realized they'd sell more trucks by doing the things you don't like.

This whole idea that Toyota haphazardly made decisions on this truck by accident is almost comical.

I've read 600 pages of posts of people doing this, and it's exhausting.

Toyota doesn't care if you jump ship if they get two new owners to replace you. :notsure:

99% agree. I'm excited to see the new truck, love seeing the new details on it, and totally plan to test drive one some day. I just have no interest in purchasing. Not because I am anti v6, or turbo, or don't like the looks, but rather because I've hit a point in my life where I don't want to spend more money to replace something that is doing it's job just fine. My honest hope is that when I'm 70 years old my current Tundra will be my old blue truck that I'm still rattling around in.

All the anti new howling is a bit silly. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

The only people I really seeing jump ship are those that really need to buy a 3/4 ton or 1 ton and were hoping that Toyota would bring out a 1/2 that had 3/4 ton specs. The current Tundra meets all of my needs as far as towing and payload, I've never been in a situation that I needed more so for me the current Tundra is just fine, the new one is even more capable and takes care of the few issues I had with my truck. MPG's, cheap plastic interior, and lack of surround cameras. There has been nothing that I have seen that would prevent me from making it my next truck in about 4 years or so.

Swears explained that the slippery nature of the bed aids when sliding items into the bed. He also suggests if you don’t like the slipperiness of the bed, buy a rubber bed mat or do the spray in. It’s a kind of “your dammed if you don’t and dammed it you do” senecios. Customers want to be able to slid material in the box which is impossible with a spray in. Personally I’m glad to see the composite in the Tundra. It’s been working very well in the Tacoma for years. Bed mats are cheap.

I wonder how the composite bed will work for those wanting to install a fifth wheel hitch?

Hang out on the Tacoma forums for a bit and you will see that Tacoma owners aren't all that thrilled with it either...lol....I'm not sure how many they will pick up, most are waiting for the new gen Tacoma before they make up their minds.

If Toyota puts the same style suspension on the new gen Tacoma and tries to match payload and towing with its competitors, other than cabin room, there really won't be a need to jump up to the Tundra. If you need more towing, you will more than likely need more than the Tundra gives you so 3/4 ton jump would make more sense. Payload would be a wash. They could easily get the Tacoma to 7-7500 lbs towing (which would take care of most everyday RV's) and 1500lbs payload, (which would still put it below the Ranger) (Ranger max payload is 1600-2100 lbs with 7K towing)

It probably won't work out too well....it also won't work too well with truck campers, it's doable but you have to keep an eye on it and a good idea is to use a bed brace. The beds are durable but they can (stretch) on the sides, as the bed sides are just metal skins, the composite is the full box, so just like anything plastic, put the right amount of pressure and you can stretch it.

While it is durable, Tacoma owners have broken and damaged them and when hauling heavy a lot of them use bed braces. Good news for aftermarket companies as a whole lotta new Tundra owners will be seeking bed braces.

now that it’s the same platform, it’ll be interesting to watch them dumb it down and make it cheaper.

We can't control those "morons", but can police our own back yard. There is no way in hell I would spend over 57-59K on a 2.5 Gen Pro...and that is on the high end if I had some extra FU money. In CO, Toyota Trucks run a premium but you get the point with this brand new PRO listing for 61500.00

    https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for...tBy=relevance&numRecords=25&clickType=listing

    Another for 58K

    57,500

    https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for...tBy=relevance&numRecords=25&clickType=listing

Why would anyone buy this used 2019 Pro for more than you can get a 2021 for?

I'm not sure they are gonna make anything cheaper...lol....Its gonna have a turbo 4cyl and a hybrid 4 cylinder for sure....there are a few spy shots that claim to be the test mule floating around that have the rear suspension covered up like the tundra test mule was, so it would stand to reason they are doing something back there. It's not a bad platform now, really a little more towing, and a little more payload would be all I would ask for, they may get that with just the stiffer frame. I know if they make it look like the Tundra, its gonna take a lot of getting used to for sure.

Unless Toyota gets rid of the 3.5l in the Tacoma there is no way it will pull 7K. Mine struggled with 5K.
