I don't think with this gen Tundra anyway you get much better mileage with 2WD.

I find myself sometimes needing 4WD to back uphill on dry grass. Occasionally need it for certain circumstances when moving trailers on grass too. Just the other day I had to go to 4WD when backing up with a trailer uphill in a yard.

My feared hip has 5 SRs with 8 ft beds, all 2WD, don’t know how those will sell in the northeast.

If I’m “investing” 45k+ in a vehicle - I’m spending 2 grand more on 4wd - even if I never plan on engaging it once.

Resale is key here - that 2 grand extra won’t depreciate and will make it 10x more desirable come resale time.

Lots of 4x4 that never get used - but buyers “gotta have it”.

    I have a 2wd
    And it’s supercharged
    And lifted
I get a lot more compliments on the 2wd (especially from tits) then my 180k Porsche
And I live up north where it snows
And I have taken it to Imogene Pass, CO where 4x4 tundra owners will hesitate to go…
    But then, I always say…
It’s the jockey not the horse!!!!

So I was driving by my local dealer again and my curiosity got the best of me. I had to stop and check the pricing on the two Luner Rock Pro’s they have in stock. Each one was marked up $15,000 with a total price of about $75k each! (They both had several options.) I literary started laughing out loud in right there in the showroom.

I think you are confusing Imogene with Black Bear. Nobody hesitates to go on Imogene. It's gorgeous and simple.

I think you are confusing it. It had signs everywhere that long wheels based vehicles are not recommended. Didn’t see anything except Jeeps, FJs and 4 Runners.

Just did Imogene not long ago, so did another member.

Saw my first TRX in the wild on it. The guided tours were being done in a Chevy HD.

    It isn't anything extreme.

In West Texas it's very common for most trucks to be 2wd. There just isn't a need for 4x4 unless you're a farmer. There's not even places to go offorading out there really. I never owned a 4x4 (exception was a wrangler I had in college) until I moved to Utah, was an uneeded expense for something never used. Utah however , entirely different story. I would not buy a 2wd here ever. As a matter of fact the dealers here don't even bother stocking 2wd.

They were all 4x4s because thats what people who live in the mountains, drive in the mountains lol on imogene you really don't even need to engage 4wd. The reason you would want 4wd is if those pesky mountain storms come out of nowhere with rain or snow. If that happened , different story. I don't think anyone "hesitates" to go on imogene though.... it's a pretty dirt road in the mountains , nothing hard really.

There's a mountain road that goes up by my house to view this mine. Not a hard road but a rough and steep one. I don't need 4wd , but toward the top I usually use 4 low to save my transmission. And on the steep washouts on the road the ride is infinitely more comfortable in 4wd vs 2wd due to wheelhop. that being said there's people that drive their minivans up there beating them to death lol just because you can doesn't mean you should is the phrase that comes to mind haha

it all depends and it’s the driving behavior. There is always those drivers sitting in the ditch with their AWD vehicles during the snowstorm or rain. 4x4 is good to have but doesn’t mean it will get you anywhere.

There are people who drove 2wd and stickshifts for decades but it’s not common with new generation anymore.

As I said in previous post it's SUPER common in West Texas, almost always 2wd and probably the south in general. Having moved from where I had exclusively 2wd trucks , to the mountains once you live in the mountains in foul weather, you understand why the dot requires either 4x4 or chains in the winter. Plus any mountain road with rain or snow offroad, 2wd won't usually get you out of the air down parking area on most trails. It's not necessarily that you will get stuck although that's a high possibility here in utah, it's more that gravity and low traction ceases forward momentum up a mountain with only right tire fire.

Nothing wrong with 2wd, they have their place but to think you can somehow defeat low traction, rocks and gravity all at the same time with driving technique of one wheel spinning is a bit misinformed.

I wanted a 1794 In the Mesquite four-wheel drive and couldn't find one here in Southern Nebraska last month didn't want to wait any longer so I bought a white one which is for me a crime against nature. Wouldn't you know it I went out to visit my son in California and the local dealer had two of them in the Mesquite I wanted to drive my truck through their dealership.

The auto LSD is actually pretty impressive, though not compared to 4wd. I love hitting insane off camber stuff and just keeping my foot on the gas and seeing it figure it out. Rough ride but fun.

I got an email today from the dealer where I purchased mine, stating they have more in stock now (pointless to me as I already bought mine). I looked up what they have in stock and they currently have 6, in various trims. All are 4x4s. When I bought mine back in June, it was straight up MSRP with no markups, but no negotiations either. It worked out fine for me as I got killer trade in on my Tacoma. I noticed on the ones they have today, they all list a dealer markup of $2k. I don't think I would have been willing to pay above MSRP for mine, though I do get that the S in MSRP is "suggested" so obviously they can charge whatever they want, as long as the market will play along.

Probably depends on location. I live in North Georgia, most contractors invest in 4wd because half this area has a 2 mile long dirt road driveway with clay that'll hold on and refuse to let go.

Ten to 15 over seems to be common around Baltimore. Stock is very limited. One dealer had 2 on lot and 3 on the way.

I'm surprised that Toyota Corporate doesn't frown on such taking advantage...
