I still think only the platinum and 1794 have heated and vented rear seats, the limited and Pro do not as they are the same base trim

I mean, Taco door jamb numbers aren’t amazing or anything, but your Yeti is what, 100lb? Are you and your buddy each 400+ lbs? You probably shouldn’t be in any midsize truck.

What’s truly funny about all this is how much more reliable Tacomas and Tundras are, even all the ones that are over their door jamb numbers, which again aren’t the law.

I believe that is correct. I'm also pretty sure the Limited doesn't have power running boards.

The 2022 TRD pro has a payload of 1,455 but still has skids and a hybrid motor/batteries, and the extra weight of the pro 4wd with and other features.. seems like your logic is a bit off

I thought the power running boards were a dealer installed option, similar to the 3" lift.

I never considered payload when I bought my Tundra. We were buying it to tow our Airstream, which we were towing with a s/c Tacoma. I didn't realize there was so much debate over payload until I joined this forum. After eight years of towing the same trailer with both trucks, the Tundra is much more capable than any sticker or number suggests.

I have a Leer shell, a Prinsu rack with ROAM cases, RCI sliders + skids, and tools. With just me, I'm rolling around pretty heavy. Add the family, dog, and a bed full of gear during camping season, and we're always over. I can't speak for the 2022, but my truck can handle it.

Toyota's numbers are conservative. Since this payload debate is an issue for so few Tundra owners, I bet Toyota keeps the numbers low. I assume the lawyers suggested it.

agreed. if the limited has all that stuff then why buy the platinum, lol.

platinum has all the stuff, 1794 is an equal trim. only difference is you can get the TRD package on the 1794 cant on the platinum.

and the Pro is based on the limited

The Pro also has different suspension. It might have other unlisted components that are different and account for an increase in payload rating. Could just be that Toyota rated it less conservatively as well. There isn't an exact chart for what gets a certain payload rating. It's all just kinda pulled from the ether as long as it will meet a few basic standards.

    1. Fuel Grade?

    2. Configurator?

With it being turboed I would expect the same requirements that the Fords have; premium if you want the performance and economy advertised at a minimum if not outright required.

By "configurator" do you mean the online build and price tool? If so, I don't think that will be available until they are actually available for purchase.

The only things I've seen listed as dealer installed are the lift and tow hooks, though there will be others.

Tacoma and Tundra can handle heavier loads beyond the factory rating. The factory rear springs are soft. Beef up the rear springs, the axle can handle it. Been done for many years.

That's great... for the axles. What about the cooling system? Bushings? Brakes? HW securing various items? Wheels? Lugs? Transmission internals? Drivelines? How about the crumple zones designed to keep you (or somebody you hit) save in an accident? Are they designed for that added weight?

Point is, it's not one component that determines payload or bears the wear and tear of going over. That's an oversimplification.

87 has been confirmed multiple times. If you're asking about MPG, it seems like we should know on the 12th.

Configurator won't be live until late October at the earliest since that's when TFL said pricing will be out.

If you need more payload then go buy a different truck. You probably need a 3/4 ton anyway. Complaining about it on a forum isn't suddenly going to change the facts.

Yeah, yeah. You won't be making a 1/2 ton into a one ton, but the angst about beefing up the rear suspension is goofy. Been done for many years and millions of miles with Tacomas, Tundras, Land Cruisers, 4Runners, LX, GX.

Those other components and systems are worth mentioning for sure. But the extremely large sample size of Tundras and Tacomas that have been overweight for years without issue tells us that those other components and systems don't have an issue with being overweight, either.

I mean, as long as you've got a trans cooler...:stirthepot:

I'm not saying you can't do what you like, but I'm just clarifying why some are opposed to running over payload. It's not people being the "weight police" so much as it is being aware of what it could possibly mean to go beyond the rating. Everyone is free to choose for themselves, but it's best to make an informed decision. Lots of people don't consider things like mentioned in the previous post. I've asked the same questions in person and seeing the lightbulb of recognition go off and the sudden "oh heck I didn't know it could possibly be serious" look on their face tells me that they were only looking at it from a single aspect.

Not saying I completely disagree, but lots of people walk in thunderstorms and the vast vast VAST majority are fine. That doesn't make the ones hit by lightning feel any better, though. It's a risk, and if anyone chooses to take that risk, that's on them. I just pray that if they do and it goes badly, they don't hurt anyone.
