True. People pursuing that have done it on the current Tundras that have lower payload ratings than the upcoming 3rd gen, so those individuals don't seem to care about the payload rating anyway.

I don't disagree. I'm just saying that a bloated overlander build has never been stopped by a payload rating.

“Luxury truck” has always been a bit of an oxymoron to me, but truck buyers demand their comfort, big screens, and neat techy things that do stuff for them.

I never understood the desire for a large pretty screen. It’s not like it’s an iPad. You can’t watch movies on it or surf the web, and it absorbs functionality away from knobs you don’t have to look at to use. If your eyesight is so bad you need a big screen to see your navigation, maybe you shouldn’t be driving at all.
Yep. The trucks don’t care, either.

The only time I had an actual desire for the E-locker was in my '98 Tacoma with Manual Hubs. Yes there were a couple times where being to push a button to the get the rear wheels moving in slippery situation would have been easier then getting out the truck to lock/unlock hubs.

But these day...meh push a button to get the front wheels to pull me out, then push it again when I done.

I just posted numbers, what is your original "comparable" statement based on? It sounds like you've seen F-150 door stickers, but you didn't post any numbers

It would affect the warranty on any parts that the installed locker may or may not have caused to fail, so rear diff axles etc. It would not void your warranty for any other issue other than the affected system.

Entirely possible. They do have a bunch of pics of each trim though, and this one is with all the Platinum pics. But it could be labeled wrong. It could also be, like I said, a preproduction that has something on it that won't come on the production truck. There are also pics of the Platinum that show the air suspension buttons in the same location.

It does NOT void the warranty even on things that could be affected by it UNLESS it can be reasonably shown to have caused the problem, and even then the warranty is not void. They can just deny claims that reasonably show the mod was at fault. The warranty is still intact.

HDPP is not a top trim and you won't even find one on any dealer lot, it's a special order.

I would imagine that installing an after market locker that results in the diff grenading, after you give it too much torque on the trail will be denied by toyota as soon as they open the cover.

A locker, on ice, in 2HI would make your vehicle ridiculously dangerous.

I don't get everyone's fascination with a locker being active at the worst times.

A locker locks the rear diff, so both wheels turn exactly the same.
GREAT idea off-road, when you are lifting a powered wheel at low speeds, it's awesome to have.

However, on dry pavement, your wheels can't have slightly different speeds when turning. It's bad enough on the rear wheels, it would be downright ridiculous on front wheels.

In rain, snow, ice, a locked diff is a nightmare. Having both wheels loose traction is pretty much an accident waiting to happen. One-wheel-peel open diff is much safer in bad conditions, at least the wheel not spinning can have some chance of maintaining lateral grip. Spin both wheels and the back end goes wherever it wants.

Vehicle engineers probably get sick of hearing a few people want such a dangerous, or damaging ability to be added.

Truth. I'm just being an ass and arguing semantics. I hate the phrase "void the warranty" because it's factually inaccurate.

I have been using the link above for reference and it shows the platinum to be the lowest trim that gets ventilated rear seats.

This is the same as when I got my 2016, no TRD Off-road for the Platinum. Not sure if it changed after that.

That's what I've never understood is why people think lockers work well in snow and ice. 4wd has the weight of the engine over the front tires to add traction and you also have some more room for slippage. When your rear is locked, anytime you go around a turn, your tires are going to have to break loose if you are locked. In 4wd, there is going to be some slippage, but not as bad. If you have to reach over to engage the locker, why not just engage the 4wd? For almost every example of driving on the street, 4wd and a limited slip is a better option for most people especially if you know how to use them. Lockers are really only superior when you are articulating a lot and one wheel comes off the ground. When you add in atrac and crawl control, I really don't see a reason for a locker at all except for your hard core rock crawlers which you aren't going to be doing in a stock full size truck anyway.

lol um toyota has never been anything in trying to beat the real trucks (250/2500 or 350/3500). that was never toyota's plan. the target has always been to be close to the low hanging fruit of the 150/1500 series trucks.

and i dont consider the f150/1500 series of trucks to be REAL trucks. if you want a real truck get a 250/2500 or higher series for safe towing and cargo capacity.

Well 1270lbs is failing at trying to be close to F-150, but who cares.

I care about having a family of 4 loaded up for a trip, think about that, why else would I buy a truck? To look cool?

From an F150 XLT. Guess it depends on options and your definition of close.

I was not talking about the HD payload package, just including ** so people could understand the chart.

On the SuperCrew with 3.5TTv6, every wheelbase is over 2000lbs payload without HDPP

If you're on ice and you don't want to slip, what you're looking for is traction control. That thing that's on the corollas and sub-compacts...

I think the trouble is many people have a traction problem, even with the availability of 4wd, and see that trucks have historically only had locking diffs, as opposed to limited slip diffs. So the solution they jump to and demand is a locker, when in reality the pavement traction needs would be better suited with a limited slip.

We should be glad Toyota finally brought the locker back to the Tundra, especially for the off-road trims. But I certainly wish the people chanting for a drivetrain change were chanting "LSD!" instead of "locker!".

And that was what I was hoping Toyota was looking at when they were designing these trucks.....but nope...more of the same

I have HLSD in the rear diff of my current truck.

It is also a bit dangerous in sketchy situations.
It's great when I am running appropriate tires and the Trac control is doing it's job, but I still need to be a bit careful because if it goes to full lock, the back end of my truck will try to find the nearest curb, gutter or ditch, by way of the fact almost all roads have a crown, and spinning tires will slide down the crown.

For 95% of average drivers, good tires and traction control is safer than lockers or even LSD.

Idk, but the little brother could engage rear locker in any mode 2wd, 4H and 4L, only front needed in 4L

Those nannies are also on our trucks. I can still break the tires loose a little bit in gravel, but the truck will dampen acceleration and prevent almost all the wheelspin it can just with those nannies on. If you turn them off, it’s a completely different story.

Also, the speed at which ATRAC operates when you’re in 4hi or 4lo without needing any wheelspin whatsoever is pretty amazing.
