My mom swiped a 50s table and chairs from my grandma's house before she sold it but the chairs were in bad shape and the upholsterer couldn't match the original crushed ice pattern.

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
If they include a functional VCR with a bunch of 80’s movies on tape to go with it, that would add thousands to the value.

Man I do wish I could still drive a manual window, no power steering, 400ci engine that made 300hp, rebuild at 80k miles, no A/C having car. That’s when driving was driving! I can brake faster then ABS, I’m more steady than radar cruise control, and I DONT HAVE ANY BLINDSPOTS! For fucks sake saddle up your horse and rip out all the electricity in your house while you’re at it.

I despite adaptive cruise, and about to install a new fr9nt bumper so I guess I'll lose all that stuff anyways. Also going to install a rear bumper, so guess I lose that as well. Hoping I don't have to live with beeping or some bullshit like that.

Driving cars without some of the luxuries you described should be mandatory for all new drivers. Are cars and trucks much safer today?, of course they are, but does it teach you to have some respect for the fact that you, and you alone need to pay attention to the way you should actually drive?.. Not so much.

Front bumper has nothing to do with the cruise, unless you are getting a bull bar/push bar setup that goes up in front of the sensor.

We will just have to agree to disagree. I don’t think making a new driver drive a 50 year old shit box is going to help anyone out.

I agree with @TILLY in the fact that there are too many bells and whistles in modern vehicles for them (new driver’s) to properly learn how to drive. IMHO I would not want to put my children, when they learn to drive, in a 50 year old shitbox. However a simplistic vehicle that has modern safety tech…absolutely. Focusing is key but hell that is even becoming tougher for an adult because there are some many “things” to do in a modern vehicle. Those things are great but most people lack the reality of how dangerous driving really is…

My Dad has 3 computers at his house that still run Windows 7.
He refused to upgrade to 10 until TurboTax won't run on the 7 a few years ago.
Then he upgraded one of them to 10.
    He still bitches about it...

Same Dad made my Mom use the old CRT monitor for her computer for years.
We, me sister and I, bought her 2 flat screen monitors for mother's day a couple years ago.
She looked at him and asked 'why didn't we do this sooner?'.
She is disabled and uses/sits at her computer most of the day...

    I agree..

Now that you mention that, I'm gonna rant on safety stuff:

At work 65% of our tractors have automatic transmissions.
The other 35% are 10 speed manual.
I think when the rookie drivers are trained, the have drive a standard for a day or 2.
I think they should be trained in standard tractors and run an automatic a day or two, but our management is lazy.
So now in dispatch the rookies cry that they can't drive a standard (when dispatch gives then the keys to one) and need a NEWER automatic trans tractor.

On other stuff, I hated the adaptive cruise tractors when we first got them, but I've grown to like it.
Although by force of habit, I usually run with the pedal to the floor.
99% of our tractors are governed at 68 MPH, we have a few that run 72.

What I don't like is the auto braking collision avoidance bullsh!t.
If I'm running the cruise and go under certain bridges, the brakes will engage HARD on their own.
If I have the pedal down, it won't do that, another reason I run with the pedal down.

    As to seat belts;
There is a 7 mile stretch of road, 3132, that's a loop around southwest Shreveport that take me from I-20 to I-49.
In a semi tractor, it is like riding a roller coaster.
My seat belt literally is the only thing that keeps me in the seat.
The single axle tractors are much worse that the double axle twin screw tractors.
I run that twice a day.
I-35 going thru Sherman Texas to the OK state line isn't must better.

The rookie divers don't realize how good they have it.
My first tractor 1994 was a 5 speed GMC/White with manual steering, manual windows, A/C that rarely worked, no cruise, and no radio.

    ups_gmc_astro_8884012dce1b32a0bb85f6793c13f95dd77680e0.jpg

    Rant over...

I'll agree with others, @FO LO you probably should have bought a 2018 or earlier Tundra to avoid the driver nanny stuff.
My 2014 SR5 has some stuff on it, but no parking sensors or blind spot warnings, adaptive cruise, or anything that governs day to day driving..
