With the size of that grill it’s going to be expensive. The bloody thing is more than half the size of the whole front end!

It doesn't even look like it should be called a crew max anymore, should just be crew cab

I'm beginning to think that the grill and mustache are separate units (hopefully)
If you don't mind the main grill (most look OK to me) you might be able to order a paint-matched mustanche

only thing i can think of for the orange radiator is to cool the hybrid battery pack under the seat. someone needs to look at a non hybrid to see if that rad is there.

The cooling fan for the battery is next to the battery under the rear seat. You can see the vent and a fan pulls air through a replaceable filter.

The orange radiator looks to be plumbed in and has a T with your normal coolant hoses. Unless Toyota is using coolant to somehow cool, I do not see a dedicated trans cooler. It may have it, and if it does it would have to be integrated with the radiator.

Toyota has mentioned in multiple videos about how much time they spent on the heads and keeping temps down in a turbo application. They have increased water jackets and cooling of I remember correctly.

Maybe an additional cooler for the heads but I know that is a long shot.....

I must saying im very excited about the new Tundra and only have 1 issue. No Auto 4WD system. My wife has a 4motion VW and it makes a huge difference in rain compared to the normal Fwd model. This was a highly requested feature and not sure why it wasn't added. But it makes me wonder, could Toyota possibly add this in the 2023+ models and should I wait to buy

If you follow the hoses it looks like the orange radiator goes to the hybrid system. Not sure what the big orange thing is but it looks like the coolant hoses are going to it.

That's what I was thinking no dedicated trans cooler again.

Yep and that's why it's painted orange like the rest of the hybrid components to help showcase that portion of the chassis.

Aren't hybrid components always painted orange, even on production models to ensure techs know to be careful of possibly energized components?

Probably but at what cost. Ford tremor and stx grilles are like 1k for the part. almost 2k for the raptor one.

Yea totally agree with you the orange is definitely for the hybrid system. The two small blue intercooler are obviously for the 2 turbos. And we have 2 electric fans and 2 radiators one big one and medium one.. mike swears did confirm their is a transmission cooler maybe the medium size one?

Oh just saw the a/c line went into the median radiator which is the condenser. So wheres the transmission cooler is it built into the larger/main radiator??

There are no pedestrian safety standards for vehicles in the USA, so I doubt its that. I really don't get why The front of this new Tundra is so long with so much empty space under the hood. If anything it should be shorter. 2 less cylinders, so shorter block, and it looks like they went to elecrtic fans which use less space too.

Seems everyone thinks a bigger schnoz is more appealing on a truck.

I'm not a fan, my current FS truck has a lean, aerodynamic front end. Heck, the hood is even shorter than my previous 1987 Prelude. All of the new trucks look like a freight train.

I think I understand what you guys are saying on DC, as the outgoing '21 CrewMax cab and short bed really turned me off, the old CrewMax cab looked huge, like a rear seat Adult would have a pointless whole foot of knee space, and for what? Then it saddled you with too short of a bed for a truck guy.

'22 now gives you a perfectly sized CrewMax cab (plenty of rear seat room, but not too much room) with a much more useful 6.5' bed to use as a truck. '22 is much better overall IMO because the '21DC was too small IMO for 6' adults in rear seat. Plus a '21 DC cab was ugly with its disguised rear door handle and it's terribly angled rear window. So old '21 DC was the lesser of 2 evils for me.

You have more options now. It may be true Toyota changed cab sizes to be more aligned with domestic cabs, but it makes sense to me when viewed as the whole picture.
I applaud Toyota for seeing that the old cab/beds were hindering their sales overall.

I agree with you that basically Toyota has moved us double can guys up to the crewmax now since they offer the standard size bed in that configuration now. Problem with that is crew cans are usually much more pricey, time will tell as that's an unknown right now. The current dc supplied me with ample room and was affordable for me as well.

but then why make it standard hybrid system component orange color, makes no sense to waste money on making a component orange when it could be unpainted and save money?

as a bean counter saving $5 to $10 by not painting it over the course of say 50-75k trucks over 10yrs is a lot of money to just make something orange with no benefit.

plus having a known cooling condition is better than getting a fan to cool a battery pack for long term longevity. battery packs #1 enemy is heat. i know telsa uses a glycol mix to cool the battery packs in their vehicles.

and since it directly connected to the battery pack, that is probably why its hybrid power orange.

but hey i could be completely off base here, but i did sleep in a holiday inn express /joke :)

I’m 2018 I bought my new 2018 Sport Crewmax for $39.5…OTD was about $42.5 for Virginia taxes, etc.. I hope that I can get a 22 for $45. I’m not going to overpay for any truck… I will just wait. I’d really like to have a 2021 Platinum Tundra.

I could be wrong but it appears to me that we have the main radiator(the tallest one), a cooler for the hybrid system(the orange one) and the radiator for the a/c system(below the orange one).

Possibly the transmission cooling is integrated with the a/c system?
