That would be the plan for me as well. I think the Pro is the only lineup with the Fox shocks with the resys on the rears, but the Bilstein's have always treated me well in all around scenarios. Did you guys hear that "rumble" of the V6... oh my... a long way from the 5.7 TRD, or my case the BAM special sauce exhaust.

Mine may only get 15 mpg but she sounds great guzzling them down!

Somehow I don't see the fully boxed frame of the new Tundra holding up past 10-12 years max unless there was a successful way to spray the inside of it thoroughly. I'd be curious to know if they went with a higher gauge metal as well which would mean being more diligent about protecting it with fluid film.

We're getting closer! TFLoffroad has the truck on the dirt. (EDIT: just went back a page and saw somebody already linked this). @ 18:25 is the exhaust note on the TRD Pro. WEAK!

Didn't someone say in these interviews that the battery portion would not be activated for anything over 18-20 mph or something to that nature and not functional at all if towing? Call me crazy but wouldn't having that much pixy dust be useful for towing? I' don't tow much at all... the causal 5-7k a few times a year that Swears mentions fits me perfectly. But wouldn't utilizing the power of the battery be useful, say going up a hill to keep the strain off the engine/turbos? Again, I don't tow much and know even less about battery powered cars.

    Interested if anyone knows:
I know this hybrid is focused on power, but that power can't be used for towing?
Is any gains in MPG for the hybrid really only for city driving given it's lower MPH restriction?

This is one of the things i would like to know about as well, details like this seems like no one worries about anymore. i would have liked seat belt Mike to tell us how they are combating the long well known frame rust issue on the yotas going into the new gen.

I've been having similar thoughts. The TFL video released today specifically said that towing numbers go down slightly for the hybrid. They keep boasting about the torque numbers, but how is that utilized if not in towing?

I actually thought it sounded decent until he started reving it up and then it went down hill. I like the sound of my TRD exhaust, but I will gladly give it up for the performance and mpg's the new truck should have.

Yeah, I remember previously on this thread it was discussed that they were not piping in fake engine sounds into the cabin, but the video that showed acceleration from inside the cabin sounded better than the video from the outside imo.

Land Cruisers and the Prado/GX/4Runner 120/150 chassis (2002+) have had a fully boxed frame for years with no issues. If you’re worried there are ways to spray fluid film and rust inhibitors inside the frame through access holes.

The only place I have heard the not functioning while towing is on this website, I haven't heard it on any of the interviews and it just woulnd't make sense. Mike Swears said the whole purpose of the hybrid was for power why would they eliminate it while towing. Are people saying it will turn off in tow haul mode?
I think the 18 mpg is also a misinterpretation of what was said as well. I think the hybrid can kick in at anytime when you mash the pedal, over 18 mph, it may not be running constantly, but will when needed. Hybrids in general help out in the most inefficient times (city driving and getting up to speed) after that they don't provide much assistance.

I'm with you, very shocked they didn't do much more with the bed. My 2012 Tacoma is more innovative there and has more storage then this truck. That pro has no storage at all, personally i think this was a major oversight on Toyota's part.

    6 inch lift. 35x12.5. On 22’s
Watched the video and just concerned about loss of headroom in the backseat. Loved the room my 2014 platinum had. I’m 6’3 and although I don’t plan on ever riding in the back I’m not liking the way the ceiling trends down towards the backseat. I am eagerly awaiting mpg as this will be my daily commuter.. had to dump the 2014 because of that 100 miles round trip . The wife said I looked to big to be rolling out of the Tacoma I used too have.. what did she mean by that.. hhmmm

What would be the purpose of shutting off the hybrid while towing?
Can anyone post a link to the video or source for where they are seeing that the hybrid will shut off while towing?

I haven't seen it worded exactly that way, but the video released by TFL today states that towing numbers go down if you have the hybrid option. Which to me sounds like either it doesn't kick in when towing or it's not enough of a boost to overcome the added weight of the batteries

That is one thing I do not like. Leg room didn't look as good as my current truck either unless they have the front seat all the way back. I don't plan on riding in the back seat of the truck, but we always take my truck duck hunting because 4 big guys can comfortably fit in there. Do not like the fact that a average size guy is going to be bumping his head in the back seat.

pretty much spot on. toyota already has a build list programmed into a computer and all vehicles are built to that list. all a dealer can do is put in an allocation request for the build that matches the customer model, packages, factory installed options. hence why it sometimes takes forever to get a certain build shipped since it rarely made.

other options that are "PIO" are port installed options and each port (regional distribution point) will have pretty much the same PIO with some exceptions (like GST and SET)

I would guess the tow numbers go down on the hybrid simply because they’re heavier.

    no,

they are referring to the weight of the Pro, it weighs more than the max tow tundra (so do all the other crewmax). He was just talking about the Pro being lower than the max tow tundra model at 12K which will likely be a double cab 2wd.

the hybrid system will help towing, not hurt it. Its still over 11K on the crewmax which is fine for a 1/2 ton. too much for a 1/2 ton IMO. but alas I get it.

Except for now the sport comes lowered, not even at stock height so instant lift required and who knows what all that will entail (potentially).

Toyota should offer a nightshade or sport package for EVERY trim in the line up. Thus far everything but pro and sport are plastered with chrome. Platinum (which user to be minimal chrome and why I bought them) is now worse and you cannot get the OR package with it so a loss. 1794/ limited have great options and packages, but still so damn chrome heavy- major miss.

you must be looking at a different platinum, the only thing I see if the grill and grill surround that isn't color match?

its less chrome than came on my 2016 and you couldn't get the OF package then either.

but I agree, they should just have a color match box for every trim, would be so much better.

I'm not worried personally as i don't live in an area with much snow and i fluid film. But even the T4r's have rust issues, they could have done something to combat this. My 12' Tacoma is even under a special service campaign now where they want to treat the frame. Maybe they are starting this from the factory now, maybe not...but it would be nice to know. My family up in western pa wont even consider a Toyota truck do to this one issue alone, they get a bad rap for the rust up there.

Toyota must have lowered it for a reason, although it doesn't look bad in the photos. I expect it was to improve handling and to make it more road sporty. When you lift it, do you lose that handling? And if you don't lift it, do you scrape the front end that already looks to have limited clearance?

Those issues and no locker are the biggest problems with the Sport, in my opinion. Off Road with chrome delete maybe then becomes the next option.

While technically true, it's a little misleading because it makes it sound like you can't necessarily get exactly what you want. Toyota uses a much simpler options model compared to say Ford or GM. Nearly everything is bundled in either a trim or a "package". There is no a la carte menu. For this reason there is no need for a true factory order because eventually the exact truck you want will be built anyway. The only real limiting factor is time. The dealer you are working with may have reached their quota for the particular trim you are wanting and you may have to wait longer because of it.

Maybe I should buy my new Tundra from a rust belt state? If they have a bad rep for rust, maybe pricing will be better

Yeah, I'm fond of V8 growl and lowend torque. I'll hang onto my 4.7l Runner
I heard on one of the Youtube videos the hybrid motor will be active in all circumstances. Sweers mentioned they have an 'advanced hybrid control ECU' that will keep the hybrid battery charged for towing assist.

Are y'all sure the TRD Sport is lowered?
I thought the TRD OR has a 1.5" lift, possibly makes a normal height Sport seem low?

I live in N NY where were get lake effect snow - over a foot within 24 hours sometimes. My truck has no rust issues. I see other tundras around here without visible rust too. But there are several domestic trucks that are falling apart due to rusted out bumpers and wheel wells.
